In April the car was fixed for $180 in parts, so not bad. May seems to have an emissions check on 1 car ($20) and the dog needed a booster ($50). We also get 3 checks in May, which should help. DH has been so busy with work, he hasn't had the time to shop. June looks brutal, but so far, we might get through May with some cushion.
Of course we have 3 more weeks of May left and who knows what could go wrong.

I planned all the tax and insurance expenditures and 98% are paid. I did pay only half the tax on one rental and will have the last $600 next month. Our personal are 100% paid. Now I have to start saving again for next year, wow!
We are tight in the property account, tighter then we have been in years, may get as low as $1800, hope nothing expensive happens somewhere. I bought the AC, paid it out of my travel/floor account $3200 and w/d, we expect trumps tariffs to hit everything this time, so there was a sale and we bought the cheap Roper brand, so another $800. We now have all the new appliances purchased. I will pay my account back $500 monthly. But hubs needed it, he gets hot working and I don't want him being miserable.
I spent to much just in our personal account too. I bought $220 in back splash tile but wasn't thrilled with it, can't find what I want so returned it today. I still hope in next months to start the flooring, going to buy DD's first and I will put it down, she is fussing about it so might as well do it first. My tenant is also going to be able next pay to reimburse me the other $288, she said she does not want to owe it. I think we are helping them to learn about savings, needs, and like she said impulse buys. Heck I have the same problem. Still I owe $250 electric bill, $140 for hubs supplement, water bill, probably $60 or so, cable $40, internet $60, and groceries. I have all the credit cards paid current too, so hope we will be ok. I need to get my truck transmission serviced though, like close to $100??
It's always something.

Right now I am mad at myself. Overspent by $150. I bought a coupon book for 5 golf courses that are 9 or 18 holes. I am a senior. At every course at l8 holes, I will be losing. My friends and I usually play only 9. The coupon books do carry over to next year now. Just make me nauseous. I could have waited until tomorrow and talked with my friends to see what they were doing. And just paid the senior rate.

Almost half way through the month of May, I am in great shape. It seems to get easier to simply tell myself no and walk away. I simply don't need all this stuff Ive been spending money on.
Just hoping I can keep this up.

I had a receipt with a car wash code on it, and I lost it. DH says not to buy the wash at the pump b/c you save $1, but I just lost $9.
I thought I was broke, so I took my coins to the credit union. I had $170 in coin. I told them to put $50 in my Savings account and give me 120. He gives me a receipt and I have $770 in my account, then he says, oh, you have another account with $300 in it 🙂. Then DH tells me he has an account with $3,000 in it. 🙄
Our spending is bad. Two first communions. 120. A Birthday $50. Two Mothers day gifts. I had a shower two weeks ago. Middle school and college grads coming up, and a wedding.
Dogs got groomed $100. Also, shots and pet licenses $75.

Yeah, I spent $116 on my hair and $120 for 3 months of flea and heart worm meds. It just goes on and on. My insurance was deducted $179 and $50 plus for drugs. Then $139 for hubs and only $15 for his drugs.
Light bill is $247, not down as much as I like. Same as everybody, just money going out constantly to live our civilized existence.

Siding goes on next week and then we only have grading and seeding the rental property. We're almost done with the major projects for the year. w00t! It'll be nice to be back to just the every day expenditures. Those can be controlled much better.

Yeah we spent $3200 on a new central AC at the rental and $800 for a w/d. We still have all the flooring, a bathtub, hardware, light fixtures, and a new roof on the garage, plus I'm sure thousands or so it always seems!

May has been another spendy month, so much for my good intentions. Two trips to Seattle didn't help. The flower stalls at the Pike Place Market are my weakness.

Just hoping I can keep this up. I give it the "does it need dusting?" test. If answer is yes then it's a big NO. I do have a problem with fresh flowers and plants. But honestly except for buying a car last year I pretty much haven't had a lot of big/surprise expenditures. I saw a piece of blown glass at a gallery in NO that I wanted but it had a price tag of $400,000 so I passed.

I went shopping yesterday, which I really dislike. DD needed 2 pair of eye glasses ($320) and we both needed an outfit for a wedding ($120). DD still needs shoes. We both also need a haircut before the wedding and I need some summer clothes. The next expenses will be the gift and dog sitter for the wedding. After that I think we will be set, as far as the out of state wedding goes. Then I need to buy DD a replacement retainer.

$1300 for a new coil on the furnace. I must have spent $600 this month on landscaping.
Over did it for sure.

Our washing machine started leaking and when hubby took it apart he found it was just held together by 25 years of rust. So we spent $900 on a replacement yesterday. Hopefully it lasts the 25 years that they were advertising. I am also getting some quotes on removing a large tree that lost some limbs in recent storms, the first quote was around $2k.
Fortunately I am not aware of any other large bills coming up. I wouldn't have spent so much on entertainment last month if I had realized these expenses would be coming up so fast.

My spending has been under control, but unfortunately my brains and emotions have gone off the rails. Balancing on the rails has caused some BIG mistakes financially, so it's just a good thing that my checking account has a good end of month balance.
My Mom has been placed in hospice care (she is 99) and even though I knew it would be coming at some point, there was no way I was prepared emotionally for that. Add Memorial weekend and remembering my DH buried at a National Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska didn't help either. So for I've over paid CC by $451, and underpaid the exterminator by $47. And I made an error at the VA that I wish I could take back.
As the joke ays, sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you're the windshield. For now, it feels like I'm both.

Such a difficult thing to deal with, Blonde Granny. It's hard to think straight with all that going on. Be kind to yourself.
I'm still trying to get it together after DH's passing in February; Memorial Day weekend was hard.
When it comes to finances, May was an expensive month: two birthdays, 4 graduations-my gift budget was blown. Trying again this month-no birthdays coming up for a couple of months. I'm still adjusting to a reduced income after DH's passing. Fortunately, house and car are paid for.

I worry about that too, adjusting to my reduced income if something happens to hubs. I will sure have to change things even if all is paid for. You will do what you have to vetswife. I am sorry to hear about your husbands passing, take care of yourself now.

My YNAB budget is done for the first of the month. Since the error of over paying by a few hundred dollars my credit card bill, things will be a little tight this month. I'm saving the overpayment money to cover a trip to Nebraska soon if it ever stops raining and flooding.
That said. I WILL NOT take money from savings to pay for daily living expenses.

Thanks for all the kind condolences folks. Yesterday was the first time I had posted anything since his death in February; it was just hard to write about before.
Blonde granny, like you I don't want to dip into savings for daily expenses. Hope I can keep with it, so far so good.

Vetswife, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I knew your husband was very ill but didn't realize he had passed. Hugs to you!!
Like you and Countrygirl2 I worry about living on a reduced income when my DH passes. I'm trying to set bits of money aside to help in the transition to a smaller income when the time comes.
