330 million for 1 MVP level season is insanity, he had a 10 WAR in 2015 and 17 WAR his other 6 seasons...... combined.

He almost hit that with LA Dodger's offer. Seems the state tax bill for Harper was a no go among other things.

I fear MLB has a strike in a couple years when their agreement expires. Without performance enhancers 6 (really 7 with the service time games teams play) years is way too long for a team to be able to control a player. Also having half the league tanking each season to emulate the Astros/Cubs has really nuked competitiveness during the regular season. They need to change the draft and bonus money system.

Value BuyKeeping with this thread, it appears Mike Trout will be getting 430 million over the next 12 years dwarfing the Harper deal. www.nytimes.com/2019/03/19/sports/mike-trout-contract-angels.htmlI believe Mike Trout is well worth it where Harper is not. Trout has the most beautiful swing I have witnessed since Griffey Jr. and I think will be in the debate for greatest ever. Too bad for him the Angels have languished behind other stupid deals like the Pujols and Hamilton ones to put him on a winner.

Knocking on the door of the halfway point of the season and Harper only has a .247 batting average and a .5 WAR.......
Ouch

Sticking with the WAR theme, Harper ended the season with a Wins Above Replacement of 4.2, way above his pace at midseason but still only qualifying his season as that of an All-Star, not of the Superstar/MVP 330 mil contract he signed. For reference Trout had a WAR of 8.3 library.fangraphs.com/misc/war/Scrub 0-1 WAR Role Player 1-2 WAR Solid Starter 2-3 WAR Good Player 3-4 WAR All-Star 4-5 WAR Superstar 5-6 WAR MVP 6+ WAR
