If there was not enough hate in this world,
Hey let's create more hate with false accusations!

I honestly don't know what the truth is. I just read an article that said they canceled the indictment last minute before the attackers could testify after a call from his lawyer.

What bugs me is the automatic jumping to assuming the person making the claim is telling the truth. I don't mean that against you, just talking in general. We no longer wait for evidence.

Not saying we should string em up and poke em with pitchforks before there's evidence, but the stats show that overwhelmingly people don't report a false crime. So I don't have a problem initially believing someone with those kind of stats. (I tried to quickly google overall, but any search I tried the results were only regarding rape, child sexual abuse. In those cases over 90% of the time they're true.) Ya know, as long as you keep the fire and brimstone and pitchforks out of it.

I didn't see that jumping to conclusions. Maybe it did happen, but I didn't see it, possibly because I refused to click on the early stories. A few days went by before I finally did some clicking and when I did, my heart sank. The coverage that I saw was very by-the-book, surprisingly by-the-book. I don't think that the media bought this story hook, line and sinker. I pretty much saw the opposite.

Shocking! CNN is calling out Sen Kamala Harris and Sen Cory Booker, both attorneys... for rushing to judge, guess its ok as long as they can find any excuse to bash Trump/MAGA supporters. I hope Jussie Smollet sees prison time for this fraud, and waste of resources by the P.D. investigating this hoax. The police could have been serving the community in a more productive way helping real crime victims.

Guilty beyond a reasonable doubt is for the court room, not public opinion and certainly not private opinion. I can believe someone and sympathize, be outraged or scared without having all the facts. Although I would like grown men to have to prove that they were mugged, or their car stolen, or just about any other crime before being taken seriously a bit just to prove how well that system doesn't work. And back on point -- if the guy did fake the letter and the attack he should be prosecuted and held accountable. Which amazingly looks like the path they're on.

Jussie Smollett has been arrested and faces criminal charges for allegedly filing a false police report and for disorderly conduct. Chicago police tweeted Thursday morning that the “Empire” actor was under arrest and in custody of detectives.
Smollett claimed that he had been attacked by two men on Jan. 29 — he said they beat him, tied a rope around his neck, and doused him with bleach. He also claimed that they shouted racist and homophobic slurs during the assault. However, police now believe that Smollett paid two acquaintances, brothers Olabinjo Osundairo and Abimbola Osundairo, to help him orchestrate the attack. The men have reportedly been cooperating with investigators.
In a Feb. 14 interview on “Good Morning America,” Smollett hit back at skeptics. “If I had said it was a Muslim or a Mexican or someone black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me a lot more,” Smollett said during the TV interview.variety.com/2019/film/news/jussie-smollett-arrested-chicago-police-1203144754/

I have read this from a couple of sources. That makes no sense. I believe that might be what he was thinking but he obviously isn't thinking sanely.

Well - we all know his name now. I had absolutely no clue about who he was until this happened. They say all publicity is good publicity, but not in this case.

He won't get much, if any, time. If he can just get a job or two (or keep the one he has) many will recall his name, but not his crime.

Lochte didn't get that much blowback. It pretty much was just from the swimming association. But then he also didn't pay to set it, just thought it was a good excuse for why they missed curfew.

I'm pretty sure this was a grown man and I took the same stance on him as I did anyone else. Thank God they didn't actually find any white, trump supporters to blame this on (then again, the area does not seem like it would be rampant with MAGA wearing people!) because they would have been guilty until proven innocent. And that is what I have a problem with. We have become a nation that latches on to anything and runs with it. From politicians, to reporters.

I've read a number of news articles and watched ABC News' coverage. It boggles my mind that someone ~ in this day and age ~ would be foolish enough to send texts about planning this (he did) and pay cohorts with a check (he did.)

I began doubting his story early last week when I heard that when the police arrived at his apartment he still had the rope/noose around his neck. Had that actually happened to me, that rope would have been off my neck nanoseconds after the alleged thugs had left me.

Last night on tv I caught a glimpse of the fake anthrax death threat letter that he sent to himself at the studio, a note with letters cut out of a magazine. The FBI and US Postal Inspection service was called to the studio. Supposedly Jussie Smollet is making $125K per episode, and all this to get a pay raise?

I have read this from a couple of sources. The thing I don't get is what the guy thought this was going to do for his salary. Now that this has happened, he's going to be extra broke since he won't have a job. No one is going to want to have anything to do with him.

Wasn't Lochte drunk or otherwise impaired though? At least, I think he was. Not rhat it would make his actions right, but at least it would be a little more understandable. Smollett consciously did this. IMO, it makes it worse. Not much, but a little worse.

Trying to get out of a curfew placed on adults when your drunk ass missed it vs deliberately planning that shit.Especially since he mailed a threat too and all for more money. Considering it was Lochte they undoubtedly were drunk, but I don't remember for sure.

What kind of dumbass does that?

One would think that you'd at least give your body a rest though if you're competing in the biggest sports contest in the world. I guess not.
