I love her! She's one smart cookie! This woman is going places. we need one of two things from our president/presidential candidates:
a) that they are angels (or close to it) b) that these laws change to prevent devils from utterly fucking us over
does the current president strike you as case "a"?
you should be able to reach the same conclusion i did.

All of these numbers posted by me and the Government are at best an educated guess! Case in point on my part, I was working for a business ( contract work) the other day, I posted about it,
Five of the six working in back spoke little to no English,, So my guess is that at least five were illegal, the sixth person maybe a citizen, only because she has been there for years. since I have done doing their work, But that is again just a guess. That said, I know of some people that have been here for 18 to 20 years illegally because the the owner have told me so. My point is, no one including the Government knows,
the EXACT number? no. they don't.
but immigration is not like the Olympics. you don't need to nail it. just get close.
OK within how many million?

OK within how many million? Pew has researched this. their number is 11.2M.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_immigrant_population_of_the_United_States
others have researched it and come up with higher or lower numbers.
I would guess that number is accurate within 1M.
am I 100% sure? no. I am not. I am about 80% sure.

Again I will say it can be stopped. Make everyone do the e verify, fine them if they don't. When they hire an illegal, fine the hell out of them, if they keep it up they serve jail time. They will stop hiring them. Get more punitive if you have to, if they show they are going to do it or else take their business, that happening about twice should be enough deterent. It's About Time – Employer Hit by $96 Million Penalty for Hiring Illegal Aliens By David North on September 29, 2017 Asplundh, the tree-trimming company, has been hit by a $96 million penalty for hiring (and rehiring) illegal alien workers. According to the federal prosecutors it is the largest payment ever levied in an immigration case. The company pled guilty to criminal charges in a federal court in Pennsylvania, where its headquarters is located, apparently moving swiftly to minimize the damage to the corporation's image. As a result of the guilty plea, there will not be a public trial. I hope that this case gets lots of press coverage; it deserves it. The firm is a big one and well known because of people seeing its trucks at the side of highways and streets; and the penalty is large enough for corporate America to pay attention. There are penalties, do they do this very often? I doubt it.
The penalties for hiring illegal immigrants can be quite severe, including criminal and civil fines, revocation of a business license, or even jail time. Of course, the severity of punishment varies from case to case. Generally speaking, first offenders are usuallyfinedanywhere from $250 to $2,000 dollarsper illegal employee. It’s easy to see how an employer could be driven out of business if a significant portion of their workforce incurs such fines.
For second offenses, the fine is anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 per illegal employee. A judge may weigh the circumstances of a previous offense when considering punishment for the second one. Getting caught again would likely result in jail time.
After three or more offenses, the fine is raised to an astronomical $3000 to $10,000 per illegal employee. If a pattern of knowingly hiring illegal workers can be demonstrated, extra fines may be incurred, as well as up to six months jail time.
Severe punishments and the RICO Act.
If an employer knowingly hires ten or more illegal immigrants in one year, they may be considered to be “harboring” them—a crime which can lead to a solid ten year term in Federal prison.
Large employers could also be hit with a lawsuit under the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Under that legislation, it is entirely possible for a business to be sued by its workers for hiring illegal immigrants.

this shows me that you didn't bother to look up their research.
but go ahead, and prove me wrong:
what does the term "residual method" mean, in the context of this discussion?

The court documents can be seen in PACER file 2:17-cr-00492-JP. The feds also secured a guilty plea from Larry Gauger, a mid-level Asplundh executive, for the same set of issues; he faces sentencing in federal court on October 16. One hopes he gets some jail time. This was not a garden-variety illegal alien hiring violation, according to court documents. As a result of an E-Verify check, some 100 Asplundh workers were identified as not being in the country legally and were laid off by the firm. Then some of them were knowingly rehired under new, phony names bearing new, phony documents. The information filed against the company cited four examples of this double-dealing, with, for instance, a worker who had been Danny Palao prior to his being laid off, being rehired as Jose Feliciano. None of the documents I read dealt with any Asplundh hirings other than those supervised by Gauger. I hope that this case gets lots of press coverage; it deserves it. I was actually being really conservative, oc.
Pew estimates that their results are accurate to 100k with a 90% certainty.
in other words, they are twice as certain, and believe themselves to be 10x as accurate.
the reason I gave more variance is that I have looked at a lot of data on this subject for the last (10) years, and all of it falls in the 10-12M range. there are lots of methodologies out there, but the Pew methodology is by far the most accurate. do you want me to explain to you how it works, or do you just want to keep on pretending that we don't really have any idea how many immigrants are here illegally?
it is actually a really clever method. if you thought about how you would do it for more than 10 seconds, you might actually come up with something similar.

Employer Hit by $96 Million Penalty for Hiring Illegal Aliens cis.org/.../Its-About-Time-Employer-Hit-96-Million-Penalty-Hiring-Illegal-Alie... Sep 29, 2017 - Asplundh, the tree-trimming company, has been hit by a $96 million penalty for hiring (and rehiring) illegal alien workers. According to the .. It's was in 2017, you know there are many more. That's why they are, as hubs says big business does not want them legal. If they are legal they will be demanding better pay, safe working conditions, and benefits just like anyother American. Look at trump riling against them and using them, like he didn't know. He should have been fined.. 18 years, oh yeah a big surprise.

A car wash chain here got closed down because they were hiring undocumented workers. Another company bought the location close to us and reopened under another name. I now hate it over there. The people they have hired are frightening and rude. And they are slow and they do a shitty job. I miss the previous crew. They were awesome.

"Car dirty! You pay more!" Evidently, I'm supposed to only bring a clean car to the car wash.

I'm going way out of my knowledge zone, but I think I remember that gasoline goes 'bad' after sitting for some length of time - like 2 years? I think it's because it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and no longer has the right mix to burn well? So all those apocalyptic movies and Tv shows where people are driving cars 10 years after we stopped making gasoline are pretty much hoo-haw (unless they started making biofuel from vegetation and converted the engines to run on it).
That's what I never understood about Mad Max - they're out in a wasteland with no water, yet everyone drives around everywhere on a gas guzzler?
And in that Kevin Costner movie, where the earth is covered with water, and yet they still have cigarettes? (Smoking dried seaweed maybe?)
In the dystopian future, bicycles will be the best method of transportation. Very efficient. Who knew I grew up in a dystopian future

Yes,I knew that. You would get shot on the spot if they found you in possession of a bicycle towards the end of the war. On a side note, and speaking of the Dutch, a very nice thing this charity is doing. As a New Rembrandt Show Opens, This Dutch Charity Is Bringing Terminally Ill Patients to See ItThe Rijksmuseum's show "All the Rembrandts" will mean even more demand to pay a final visit to the institution. There’s a remarkable Dutch charity that helps those with the dying wish to visit the Rijksmuseum fulfill their dreams, and when the Amsterdam institution last organized a major Rembrandt show, it saw more requests than ever. Kees Veldboer, the founder of the charity Ambulance Wish Foundation, which has organized more than 50 trips for terminally ill patients to the Rijksmuseum, expects that even more people will want to see a new exhibition of 400 works by the Dutch master, “All the Rembrandts,” which marks the 350th anniversary of the artist’s death, than they did during the museum’s popular 2015 show “Late Rembrandts.” The blockbuster exhibition, which brings together all of Rembrandt’s works in the collection of the Dutch national art museum, opened to the public this past weekend. There are 22 paintings among the 400 works in the “once-in-a-lifetime exhibition,” which largely features drawings and prints. By comparison “Late Rembrandt,” which the Rijksmuseum co-organized with London’s National Gallery, featured 40 paintings, many on loan. My mother grew up during the war, in Holland. Her father ran a large flour processing plant, and needed transportation to get back and forth quickly. When the Germans came they confiscated his car, but he was allowed a bicycle. She tells the story of when the Germans came for his bike. They were at dinner, and he was cutting bread (which they had because of the flour mill) When the Germans told him they wanted his bike he got irate, and as he explained why he needed it he was waving the knife around. According to my mother, her mom was terrified- thinking they would shoot her husband. But they agreed to leave the bike. Can't disrupt the production of food I guess. I think this was before the headlong retreat. Even at the height of it's power the Wehrmacht had more non mechanized transport than most people realize. Great family story to pass on to the next generations. WWII was hell for Europe, Asia and parts of Africa along and all the troops who fought to liberate the countries occupied by the Axis countries (and some pity for those troops who had to reluctantly fight for the Axis powers).

Interesting stories, deminmaine . Did you know your maternal grandparents? And when did they emigrate to the U.S.? Thanks Tenn, I knew my Oma, but alas my Grandfather no, he only saw me as a baby. They did not emigrate, my mother came over (legally, lol) in the early 1950's and then met my Dad. She was enchanted by everything American as a kid, and thus couldn't wait to get to the US. Like many expats, she has since revised her opinions somewhat. It is always tough to take off rose colored glasses! He would have been your Opa My parents were older than your mom during the war and, like most of their age group, rarely talked about the war.
The most interesting snippet I heard came actually from my oma → it was only after the war that she discovered that both her husband and her oldest daughter (my mom) had been part of the resistance. And, incredibly, they had been so good at keeping their secret they (opa and mom) didn't know about each other either.

pages and pages of posts and nothing about the New Green Deal and how big of a scam the radical Dems are trying to foist on America?
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez played a huge part in Amazon deciding not to locate in her district, the lost jobs and revenue...
Many of the 2020 Dem Presidential candidates that support this proposal, will support of this proposal influence your vote?
