Really not sure she is the right person. Does she really have national name recognition to the country as a whole or just us political wonks? Wonder if Nancy and Chuck decided they could not make a choice on one potential Presidential candidate to do it because they would piss off the other 25?
Okay, 25 is a reach today. Next month it might be a little light

Even with all the voters that were removed from the registers and cheating several other ways like not replacing voting machines that can easily be hacked...she nearly pulled an upset for the Governorship in the state of Ga. She got national coverage during much of the battle and more after the votes had been counted. And she currently has a lawsuit against the state to straighten out the voting down here. She has also been being urged to run for President...but I don't think she will do that & I also don't think she is quite ready...she wants to straighten out this state first, then maybe on to higher ambitions. And won't it just frost DT that it is a woman, a BLACK WOMAN who will give the rebuttal!

Good point...would think that would temper his name giving and dissing of her charector..educated woman and a minority one at that...he has enough problems already with that demographic...though it probable would help him with that base of his...make up for their feelings of betrayal on the wall.. Hmmmmm...dammed if I do, dammed if I don't. This is a puzzlement....

a very interesting candidate for governor, I believe. she lost. And there you have it. Laterbloomer is a Canadian, so she can be excused for not knowing her. For dj, to say he thought she ran for Governor, shows the lack of national recognition. If dj who is so knowledgeable in politics did not really know much about her, shows this might be a bad choice. Maybe Nancy wants her on the ticket in the next election, but there had to be a dozen of better well known politicians who could give the rebuttal. Strange choice imo, but then when we saw Nancy and Chuck's rebuttal of Trump's last speech we saw how awful they looked together, so maybe Abram's is a sacrificial lamb being put out there so political pundits could not rip her apart due to her lack of national recognition. I think Trump should change things up and not give out the speech in advance, and then let her rebutt it in real time without any knowledge on the speech in advance.

I do not believe dj was doubting his knowledge of Ms Abrams. I do believe he was stating that he believed she was a very interesting candidate for governor.

I think the Dems wanted a fresh face. Don't you think the voters are worn out with all the usual Washington politicians flapping their mouths?
Even though she lost, she didn't lose by much, in a State that is fairly red, with a lot of white rural areas that would never vote for someone who isn't white - despite that, she did well in the suburbs and urban areas. She's very well spoken, and talks frankly about her troubled brother, who has MH issues and a criminal record, and her own financial problems (mostly from helping family members). Georgia Dems are considering putting her up for the Senate.
If the Dems are trying to show that they're the inclusive party, they picked a good representative.

Along with other democratic goals like end citizens united, end gerrymandering, focus attention on republican shennanigans to make it difficult/discourage minorities to vote. I think maybe they are laying groundwork for their platform.

Yes, a black, educated female who is better qualified for his job than he is... Is she the first black woman to give a rebuttal to a SOTU speech? She’ll be the first black woman to rebut a White Nationalistic, racist, misogynistic president.

He just keeps digging the GOP a deeper hole. And they stand around and watch him do it.

If she does well, it puts her more on the national stage, but I'm not sure how coveted a gig it is. Chris Christie was on with Stephen Colbert last night, and related how he on two different occasions declined the request to give the SOTU rebuttal. Asked why, he said, "Because it sucks!"

And just a bit more from the same link as above...
Sooooo, who still thinks she isn't qualified to give a rebuttal speech? I'd say she is more likely over qualified & certainly more educated & intelligent than the one giving the SOTU.

Why should we be thinking he will all of a sudden make a change in his make up. Man has never met a lie he was not comfortable with or giving.

Dezi, I get it she is not a "major political person" yet. When was the last time we had a rebuttal speaker whose claim to fame is she was robbed of the position she ran for at the state level? That is not exactly the kind of bar to be reached to qualify for this speech, unless I guess you are a democrat.

Ahh yes, that famous drink of refreshing water pause........destroyed a rising star. At least one was a Governor and the other a Senator, and not the losing candidate for a state Governor position.

Why is that a "low bar"? She is a highly qualified individual.

Should we take bets on Trump's tweeting after Abrams' rebuttal and attacking her intelligence? He'll certainly brand her a loser. Trump's basic "If you can't refute their facts, attack them personally" tweet. Sad.
