Aahha...the article I was looking for to post on the other thread about employment numbers...
Please tell me how those "employed" hours are going to pay any bills? They will be lucky if they pay for the gas to get there and back home!

Personally, I think VB's 2 threads should be merged...they are both covering much of the same topic...employment.

Maybe if the tax cuts had been for the middle class instead of the rich, there would be more demand, money spent.
BTW, are they still working on those President Trump promised before the mid-terms?

This is no different than any other company that is seasonal. I love in the northeast. The company I work for owns a construction company. They lay off roofers and framers in the winter because there is no work. Do you expect a company to keep employees on the payroll that aren’t needed?

Personally, I think VB's 2 threads should be merged...they are both covering much of the same topic...employment. I disagree. This is about Amazon and other retailers. Amazon announced how they were raising eveyone's wages to $15 an hour last year, and they were praised across the country by social liberals how great a company they were versus other retailers. Now that they are laying many off, they should be seen for the wolf in sheep's clothing that they truly are.

Our local McDs is undergoing major renovations right now, and one of the things they are doing is installing ordering kiosks so they don't need as many employees as before.
What people don't understand is minimum wages are entry wages. If you want to EARN a living wage, then get the necessary training/education so you are worth more than minimum wage.
$15 per hour is great but it does raise the prices, so in reality the COL matches the wages.
I've worked seasonal retail and know it's tough to get let go after the New Year. I got some training and found another job that was more permanent.

Amazon treats their warehouse workers pretty bad. They contract out a lot of those jobs, and the company they use seems horrid.
