If you really disliked, wanted to bother someone, since the check is only for $1 it would be a cheap way to do it. I gave "my phone number" to a guy in a bar once. I'm sure the person who owned that number was surprised to get a call "hey remember me we met in Studebakers Wednesday night and you told me you would - add your own guess here. I should have been ashamed but I really wasn't. You would have to know the back story. And this was in the dark ages before cells and cid wasn't common either!! 
Does confessing this here absolve me of any guilt
