New Jersey led the nation in outbound migration last year. There is an interactive map on this site showing migration stats for the moving company's contracts with their customers. Of course not everyone hires a moving company to move out of state, especially the young or poor families who may not afford a moving company expense. It does suggest where the jobs might be, or where retirees want to move. www.unitedvanlines.com/contact-united/news/movers-study-2018Real estate taxes or cost of living may not be the deciding factor for some transferees, based on in migration stats to several high Tax and COL states.

Interesting. But prior to making a move, they should check the state of their choice's tax base on retirees. Some differ GREATLY!

I'm surprised by Kansas being on the outbound list. It's mostly people making good money, which leads me to think that some big companies are pulling out?
