I've used H&R Block software to do my taxes for years. Some years, DH gets freelance, and if it is a job or two I just put the income on Schedule C and call it a day. However this year, DH has been doing freelance all year, enough to warrant using the home office deduction. He has a dedicated office for this purpose and it meets all criteria for a home office.
In years with no freelance, I purchase H&R Block Basic software because we do not itemize. In years with freelance, I buy H&R Block Deluxe because it has schedule C. This would be the first year we'd take a home office deduction since they introduced the Simplified Method in 2013. I don't remember if the Deluxe version includes a place to do the home office deduction, or if I need to upgrade to the H&R Block Premium software. Does anyone know if I can get away with using the Deluxe version if I go with the Simplified Method? I wouldn't be itemizing otherwise. Thanks!
