Preparing for DH's birthday and solstice party this Saturday! The usual dishes and laundry Cleaned the main floor carpet and flooring Dusted upstairs. SO gross. Cleaned both guest bathrooms Compiled the food and alcohol lists Got cups, paper plates, napkins and plastic utensils out and conducted inventory Put a shout out on the FB event for iPod song ideas, for someone to bring their Cornhole game, and buffet sides
Double checked the weather Haven't dusted or vacuumed the guest bedroom yet, as no one has indicated they are staying overnight. Safe partying is the best kind of partying. ETA: Oh, and we "decluttered" DH's motorcycle. We found a buyer!

Hurray on the motorcycle Iggy aka IG ! I hope your DH has a wonderful party! I picked up the curtains and reupholstered chair seat this evening. They look great! My friend charged us only 31 euros (35 dollars) for both, which is an amazing price. She's a great example of someone who turned her hobby into a small side business. She loves to sew so she started sewing for her friends too and charging them "mates' rates". Caught up on laundry. Oops, I forgot about a load in the dryer, and ran another load.

I've realized that I prefer to see my jewelry rather than have it tucked away--necklaces are hanging on Command hooks on the inside of the closet doors, bracelets are on a "display" stand like many stores have, rings are on a "hand" display, and I think I may get this for my earrings: www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90413930/ www.jcpenney.com/p/walnut-jewelry-armoire/ppr5007184050?pTmplType=regular&catId=SearchResults&searchTerm=jewelry+armoire&productGridView=medium
I have a jewelry armoire similar to the above. If is full though. I could buy a bigger one, but they are pretty pricy. I think I will watch on FB marketplace and or just clean the one I have out. This one has space for rings on the top and a mirror like the picture. I don't change my rings often/don't have too many rings. My inside my closet door space is being used for DH's ties. behind the closet door, we store the ironing board if we have company.
I think if I just make some decisions on getting rid of stuff I have not worn in years I would be better off.
I have something like that too. I hate it. I can't see my stuff because it's so short. I want to SEE my items, as if they're decor all their own.

Wow that is HUGE bean29 . I definitely don't have that much jewelry. I too prefer to see what I have, so necklaces and bracelets are on a hanger inside my closet door. Earrings are in a transparent jewelry box inside my dresser.
The "precious" stuff I don't wear daily is in a small safe.
I have a ceramic dish on my dresser where I put my "usual" earrings, I tend to switch them out every few weeks.

I went ahead and packed my china last night. I thought about stopping what I was doing around the time DH was due home, but I kept going. He comes in and blows a fit b/c I should be selling it, not giving it to good will, and I am not allowed to let the China Cabinet go for less that $250-350.
I told him my China was from the Grocery Store, it was never good quality, and it is not worth anything. he was beside himself - well we should use it for everyday then. Honestly it is heavy, and I don't like it, I feel it is ugly - my 55 year old self has different taste than my 18 year old self did. We used it once (for our rehearsal dinner). He also pointed out that it has a metal edge, so it can't go in the microwave. I have only ever used it maybe 3 times. I don't ever want to move it again. I told him my Mom has 3 more sets of china, one of which I really like, but am not sure I want. I would much rather use Corelle for everyday. When we have parties it is paper all the way. I have a service for 8? round correlle, a set of Square Corelle, service for 8, and another 4 place setting in the basement that the kids had at college.
He decided that we can put the base from the China Cabinet in the bar. Fine. Not sure if the top part will fit/if it will look good, but I just want him out of the dining room. It makes it too crowded around the table and I told him it is not impressing anyone.
I checked Facebook marketplace a while ago. Lots of china sets for sale for very reasonable prices. I don't think there is much movement though. I prefer to give it to goodwill and have it gone. Oh, and China cabinets range from free- $100 or so. I think there are some that are more, maybe listed with the tables, but they don't sell well. DH's brother is going to be here in two weeks for his niece's wedding - I packed the china up b/c DS will be moving at the end of the month and I was hoping DS would take the China Cabinet to Goodwill for me. I guess they can move the Buffett part to the basement and then decide if we are keeping the top or not.
I told DH I would wait till DS and his GF are home from their vacation to see if they want it before I donate it. I think it is very unlikely that she will want it though.
He does not micromanage how I spend $$. If I spend $150 on clothes, no issue, DD and I get our nails done or a Mani/Pedi, no problem. DD met us for lunch and he gave her $100 (not sure but that is probably how much he gave her), but giving away dishes or furniture that is not broken and in good shape, just not the current fashion is really a problem for him. He actually is he same about clothes - he always wants to give them to someone he knows. We sneak the bags out of the house when he is not home.

Some of the better stuff I have is in boxes in the lower drawers, I also have a drawer that has old and current credit cards in it. I do have a lot of Jewelry. I really am not the best at decluttering, I still have stuff from when we got married. I also have stuff that belonged to my Mother and my Great Aunt.

bean29, I am in the same boat with several things. I researched what several specific items are going for on eBay, but now I'm like, I just want it gone, to stop tweaking on the small stuff. Is my time worth attempting to sell old Care Bears from the 80's for $X each? Nope.

Fairly productive Monday though I was pretty exhausted after 5 hours coaching on the phone! I went early and dropped off my car for repair work so looking at the rest of the list and what I can do between calls today:
List pre-vacation:
Pay car registration, insurance and membership
Get new tires and alignment completed Take donation to goodwill - this evening
Unpack boxes from car Drop off gifts for J in town Cancel BW bank accounts
Pack for trip * include gift for G* - almost done
Pack extra hangers for mom Get gutters quote
Get contractor quote - emailed info Clean out fridge and freezer - in progress
My neighbor finally followed through and mowed both lawns yesterday so I just need to work on my backyard now. I should put down the weed and feed before I head out of town but need to read the instructions again to make sure I know when to water and such.
Trash pickup is tomorrow morning so my big goal is to get the trash cans (plural) that are full out of the backyard and into the green waste bin. I have a LOT of recycling and trash going out already.

Have reached that conclusion on the lower dollar Beatles stuff, too. It's at Goodwill if somebody wants it.

I'm about 75% certain that dad will let DN3 have his washer and dryer, but not till my sister comes home to tell him in person that she will do his laundry.

Just stopping by to say hello. The last week has been quite busy. I have most of the house pretty organized as I wanted things to be as clutter free as possible. This has been vital as I have had my three craft retreats all within the last two months. This last one will provide me with hours of crafting to look forward to and plenty of ideas and projects to finish. You will see some of these beginning to pop up on my to do lists. I have a small white board and this morning I listed the projects that I want to complete. There will be some other squeezed in between these if my past experiences holds true. A few of these projects are not as difficult as others and with some time dedication will be quickly completed. Several of the components of a few of these also offer possibilities for other creations. Also several of the teachers give permission to sell items made using their patterns and one even gave me several ideas as to alternate uses of her design. Now to get to work on all of these ideas.
This week goals and commitments: *Meeting -- Tonight *Dr. Appt -- Friday and Tuesday *Art Show -- Thursday (I hope) *Grocery -- Tomorrow (Still hoping) *Finish one project (hoping still)
Need to grab a bite to eat before heading out for this meeting. Will check in later!

Hi Kids! We finally made the long drive (over 80 miles roundtrip) to order a table & chair set for our dining room. (We found a set that looked good online, but we wanted to try out the chairs to make sure they were comfortable.) The set will be delivered next week.

Very happy you found a table and chairs you like busymom ! Sounds like the house is really coming together. The ring for the curtain for the round window arrived today, so I sewed the curtain around it. Not practical for washing. I'll probably leave it for now and ask my seamstress friend to find a better system when it needs washing. DH found a way to put it up, he'll do it tomorrow. Off tomorrow and Fri, working all day Sat. Then just two (very intensive) weeks left. I was asked to do an extra day of oral interviews next week. It's my best-paid job so obviously I said yes. Unfortunately the gardener is coming that day. DH will stay home for him. I'll make a list but he's been our gardener for years so he knows what to do. I just like to be here when he comes.
Catching up on laundry. ETA: Our window looks similar to this, but it opens, and it's oak (not mahogany).

Love the window, debthaven! DH got another day off this week, so we're going through more boxes today. (And it helps that tomorrow is garbage day.) We've been getting heavy rain this afternoon, so what else is there to do?

The window is beautiful.
Feel like I'm babysitting dad this week. Tomorrow is grocery day, so we will see if he says anything about the washer and dryer.
I've been cleaning around the house, routine stuff.

DH is at music rehearsal. I used his brilliant idea and installed the round curtain myself!!! Yay me LOL!!! I'm sure DH will find a laundry list of everything I did wrong. But it's up, so I'm happy. I need a bit of wood filler for the two tiny holes I put in the wrong place. Of course DH would never had done that. But he's out, and the curtain is up. I constantly tell DH, perfection is the enemy of good. DH tells me, that's just an excuse for mediocrity. I tell DH, that may well be true, but at least I actually get things done.

Perfection is the reason my friend in Colorado is still rehabbing her house that she bought in the 1980's housing crash. It was a gut job then and it's still not finished. She is so picky that most contractors fire her as a client. She is 71 or 72 now and can no longer do it herself. I tried to help her string line for a fence one afternoon. In four hours, we only accomplished one side of the fence. I knew then I was of no use to her. Yes, I've been listening to why can't I get my house done since the 80's from her. I think it all that time, she has managed to complete one bathroom. The roof got hailed on and had to be professionally replaced. The HOA forced her to paint. She put up a fence to hide her weeds. There's a line between perfection and mediocrity. My friend is too extreme on the perfection side.

I need to go back and catch up in the morning, I've been away awhile. oops...
today was a sick day, although I'm not 100% sick. long story. that said, today was spent with the windows closed and the A/C on. I made my way through two rooms, removing all of the pollen that has settled this spring and decluttering along the way. one of those rooms was the kitchen, so that was big. I've pitched two "tall kitchen" trash bags already of stuff - including shit from the basement upright fridge/freezer that was over a year old, freezer burned, or that chemical freeze pack shit that the roommate insisted on keeping for his summer work days. he can find more, I want the freezer space back so I can plan. eff that. there is a 3rd bag in progress, that will also go out tonight. that's got some thawing contents of containers I wanted to keep. that bag is going to stink by the am, so it will go out for sure.
dinner tonight is more decluttering - I've got the last of a bag of tater tots in the oven, and I'm going to pour some over easy eggs on top. one more thing out of the freezer!

Well, DH & I got 2 more garbage bags of stuff out of the house. I've begun another charity pile, and, since I seem to still be losing weight, I did save some clothes that are one size smaller than what I can fit into right now. Anything else that I can't wear right now is going to be donated. Hooray for getting that round curtain installed, debthaven! For me personally, if I wait for perfect conditions, nothing ever gets done around here.

Day 1 of vacation and I FINISHED THE QUILT! It’s online here: m.imgur.com/gallery/fTY9vr6And it’s a bad picture late at night. I’ll get some better shots later on but for now it’s done. I started it January 26th and until today it was entirely hand sewn. I did the machine quilting and binding with invisible thread and now I’m ready to finish quilt #2. Also, pretty sure we came to agreements on the realtor to hire, the day we will be moving out all my boxes for staging and how to handle the repairs that need to be completed. It’s been a productive 14 hrs of vacation.

Greetings all! Love the quilt, Smartstart! If I ever venture back up to the attic I have quilt pieces I cut out BC (before children) that I hope someone at Goodwill will enjoy. I have neither the patience or the hand strength to do that anymore. I finally got two and a half large bins of craft crap offloaded to the camp program at the karate studio for their summer kids camp. I found a really well organized binder full of ideas for kids that I had forgotten I'd made that went with it. It was a good reminder that I once was a much more organized person and I can be that again. My really large slow cooker that I've used for 25 years finally quit on me yesterday. It is unusual in that it actually had temperature settings on a dial on the cord instead of just high/medium/low. Nothing exactly like it has been made for years. Luckily I bought a smaller one off of eBay a few years ago. Maybe now I can learn to make more reasonable amounts of food. I still sometimes cook as though the kids and all their friends are here when in reality, it's usually just DH and I. So the slow cooker is out, the "new" one is in. And I gave my niece the really nice stainless steel pressure cooker that I never use. Yay! Space! Another bag of clothing is ready to go, but I didn't put it out. I got up late and hadn't told DH it was ready to go, so pickup happened and it was still sitting in the mudroom. I stashed it in the garage for the next recycle day in two weeks. Maybe it will be two bags by then. I still have bins in the basement that could use more purging. I'll be doing a big, painful shoe purge soon. I finally went to the podiatrist. Yes, I have a raging case of plantar faciitis, that was no surprise. The part where I'm going to be wearing custom orthotic inserts that won't fit most of my shoes was. I won't get them for a couple of weeks so I'm waiting to see what fits and what doesn't. Not a lot else will get done for a while. Lots of work hours, which isn't helping my feet, but is helping pay for the four crowns and root canal I've had in the past couple of months. Three weeks until my annual Maine family and friend vacation. I need to start getting stuff together. Most of it is gathered in a couple of bins in the basement but I noticed that DH moved bins around " src="http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/angry2.png">. And he didn't keep them together so I've only located two out of three. I'm not in the mood to buy new picnic table cloths and clips, sheets and other things that we only use in Maine. We always stay in the same cottage so everything is specific to that and isn't stuff that works in our house. It's another rainy day off for me today. Maybe I'll accomplish something else.

What a beautiful quilt, startsmart! And I'm leaving for Maine next week, Malarky, for two weeks. I am SO looking forward to it. On the decluttering front our dining room looks great now. Everything has moved on that didn't belong, including 4 bags of trash. Next: Florida room. Progress is slow but sustainable. On the organize my life front, I'm fighting a seasonal depression that interferes with getting stuff done, but I/we did contract with a tree company and a landscaping company to renovate the front and side yards. I'll post before and after pics when done. And my book is back from a second round of editing. Next I'll send it to beta readers who have volunteered, and then figure out how and who to pitch it to. Courage!
