I'm not quite as old as you, but I've been watching lots of market rallies and dips since about mid 1950's. I've seen

lots of up's and down's. It's very tempting to follow the crowds ….. the "majority rules, etc."..... I know you have many

years of similar thoughts. Let's stand back; be careful which buy/sell buttons are pushed. Monitor carefully the market

indicators ( Advances/Declines; 52 wk. highs, 52 wk. lows; Moving averages: such as 5 day/10 day/15 day/, etc., etc.

Probably told you the story about a friend of mine that was a floor trader on the Chicago Board of Options. That day in

Oct. 1987, when the Dow dropped about 23%, some of those guys just dropped their clip boards and walked out, but

Harry told me some "Upstairs Traders" had been buying penny puts.... they made a fortune that day.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.  Market's closed tomorrow; we're not going to lose a thing.

Added note: 10:15pm (Tex.time) I just checked on BigCharts and today's numbers:

     52 wk. highs 2           52 wk. lows 1256

     I would say that's extremely Bearish.

architecto.........I've seen it all and felt it all.......a child of the Great Depression.  I do not follow stats anymore and am holding only income stocks.  Seldom trade any.  Just watch.  Will ride the current sell-off out.  I'll probably will no longer be around to see the new highs of the future (it will take many years).

The S&P500 is significantly oversold right now but I wouldn't expect any countertrend rally until Congress comes to some kind of resolution on the government shutdown.

It's a little unfortunate that we're unable to be sitting comfortably

re: the world politics, the weather, the market, etc., etc., etc.

      Yes. & pull up a 10 day chart on AMZN (Amazon).

      It's up about 5.5% (correcting it's Dec. drop; perhaps)

Mod, I agree. Market reverses take awhile. The 52 wk. highs certainly will not rally; however, the

52 wk. lows numbers should start declining. And what the democrats do will affect everyone's

attitude. "Why can't we just all get along".... It's one government; not 2. I monitor my "SOFT4"

(Strength of Trend/ 4 wk. mov. aver./ 6 month) graph of the DJIA or the OEX (SP100).

and continuing repeating: "The trend is your friend"...…. Good afternoon to you...….

Several guru's are predicting a 2019 RECESSION.  We'll see, in the fulness of time.  With "tweetie" in office, anything is possible.
