The House approved the bill 358-36, sending it to Trump's desk for his signature. The legislation was approved earlier this week by the Senate, 87-12. The passage marks a win for Trump as well as his senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who advocated for the bill in the face of conservative resistance. link Overcoming conservative resistance, passing bipartisan bills and having a President sign them is a good way to make America great again.

Putting America first. Efforts to pass legislation similar to this year’s bill died in 2015 without a vote in the Senate, partly because McConnell did not want to give President Obama a legislative victory. This year, advocates had to overcome some Democratic resistance to giving President Trump a bipartisan win. “They were able to look past giving Trump a victory,” Tolman said. “They rolled up their sleeves and dug in.” link Good job Democrats.

First it was outlawing bump stocks. then it was prison reform. Today we are getting out of Syria I agree with all 3. Bump stocks never should have been allowed, prison reform was long overdue and we never should have been in Syria.

This article is from December 9th and is now out of date and wrong........ LOL. You're quibbling about a 12 day old article when just last week you quoted a nine year old article.

This article is from December 9th and is now out of date and wrong........ Did you bother to read the article from the December 9th? Mitch absolutely did not want to vote on prison reform.
“I’ve got this much time,” McConnell said this week at a Wall Street Journal event, holding his hands close together. He said such a bill requires a week or ten days to consider, while there are only two weeks left before the planned holiday recess and budget bills that must be passed before then; advocates argue that it would only take a few days, with a cloture vote capping debate at 30 hours. McConnell acknowledged support on both sides of the aisle but called the legislation “extremely divisive inside the Senate Republican conference,” with more members undecided or opposed than in favor.

I simply informed the poster it was outdated. The prison reform bill was signed into law. McConnell did not block it. Sorry if you do not see the difference.

The poster was simply pointing out McConnell was against it 11 days ago.

... passing bipartisan bills ... Having democrats cross the line and vote for it is also a good thing. How is that an "also"? What "line" was crossed? Cosponsors: H.R.3356 — 115th Congress

By doing what they can to improve things, they set a tone for reform that can motivate state reform.

Let's remember what trump is trying to get us to forget: Apparently Trump is convinced at some point in the next 18 months, there will be an impeachment vote. Speculation is that he is suddenly moving on these kinds of bi-partisan efforts in order to make himself look less like an impeachment target to the handful of dems he might need to avoid being impeached.

I guess you do not consider this crossing the line. Please tell me how many other bills they have co-sponsored with the Republicans in the last 23 months. Just like we have a Mason Dixon line, the Congressional seating map has a definite line where they have to cross somewhere in the mddle. There has been little to no crossing that line lately Up until now nancy did not allow any crossing the line exercise. Myself, I am pleased they passed it. Not sure it really went far enough.......but gives the poor and minority population a fairer shake.

I guess you do not consider this crossing the line. ... Here is what is interesting: The First Step Act passed on a vote of 87 to 12, with dozens of Republicans, including longtime holdout Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), joining all 49 members of the Democratic caucus to approve legislation link
(The House) passed the measure by a 358-36 margin. link (can't find party breakdown for House no votes) So in the Senate is was 100% Democrats and most but not all Republicans who voted for it. Who "crossed" the line? Or perhaps it was a meeting in the middle?
