... Quite frankly, I am not sure if the sentence is enough......... I assume you mean length of time. He will also be deported upon release. This to me is a tricky one. What is the purpose of jail time? Punishment, to deter him from assaulting someone else, deter others, satisfy the victim's sense of justice? Remember, we will be providing the money to imprison him for the length of his sentence. How much are you willing to pay to punish the guy? Is he thinking "Nine years? Certainly worth doing it again if that is all the time it will cost me"? Are there others sitting on a plane or bus right now thinking it would be worth it for nine but not twelve/twenty/life? Would the victim not need the support dog if her attacker got fifteen years? If he serves most of the sentence, taking into account there is frequently time off given, the man will be in prison for the rest of his twenties. I think that is a good punishment. |
