What is/has been your most reliable car?
For me, it's a toss up between my folks' '88 Ford Tempo or the '92 Honda Civic. Not a problem with either, although I chalk that up to divine intervention!

I'd have to say the Toyota truck. We bought it in 1992, and sold it to my son in 2003. It's got over 200,000 miles on it and still going strong.

I had a 1991 Mazda MX-6 that had one repair in the 13 years I owned it. At about the 6 year mark, I needed to replace a mass air flow sensor. Other than that, the only other repairs were maintenence/wear items. It had 120K miles on it when it got totalled.

My wife's 2000 Accord bought used in 2002. It runs like a top and still looks good.

81 Supra, had to replace the power steering pump, that was about the only thing that went wrong on it. AC went also but it was repaired under warranty.
96 Accord, the only thing that went wrong on it was the ABS that would have been expensive to fix. Luckily (hard to use that term), it was totalled when it was rear ended before I decided to replace it.
98 Legacy, had to do the head gasket about 75,000 miles, that was about it.
2002 WRX, 120k miles, nothing (knock wood) so far

Hands down, all of the Fords I've driven. Currently, we've got a 2002 Ford Explorer and a 2006 Ford Mustang.

I've only ever owned one car- my 1999 Honda Civic. This car has made me a Honda fan for life.

I learned to drive on my mom's '90 Volvo 240 wagon, that thing lasted 11 years and almost 250K miles before it finally gave up the ghost. After the Volvo, my mom got a '98 Camry, it was still running well (nearing 300K miles on its original engine) when she wrecked it last Nov. Other than that, I'd say our '97 Civic and '93 Del Sol... we've put 50K+ miles on both with minimal repairs. I like any car that can handle a lot of miles and gets good MPG.

My Accord was pretty good also. When my current car goes to the great junkyard in the sky, I really should consider an Acura.

I've been lucky I've never had a true lemon or even a questionable car. When I head out in the morning I never think "is it going to start?", it just does.
In many ways I'm surprised just how reliable modern vehicles have gotten. I take mine in every year or so for a major checkup (every 30,000 miles is a biggie) but other than that, it's fuel and oil changes.

I had a 1998 Honda Accord. It was the best car ever as far as the engine. It made it to 170k before I sold it. The engine never had any repairs. I just had to replace the starter near the end of when I had it. I did have some work done on front end (like due to the way my driveway is). When I sold it the front end needed work, the AC was about dead, one rear window didn't work, and a few other minor things. It would crank up and run every day.
My DS just bought a 1996 Honda Accord with 130k about a month ago. I hoping it runs for a couple years.
Other good reliable vehicles, Honda Van (totaled in a wreck), Ford Explorer 2001, DD has 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix (had for 3 years, low mileage, really surprised that this one has been good)
Overall we have been lucky/made smart decisions!

My Dad's 1966 Mustang had 250,000 "normal" miles on it when he sold it. It still had the original transmission and everything. The original purchase price was $2500 - so, the amortization of that across the number of years we owned it is pretty darn good!
And it was a totally cool car! I looked smokin' hot in it when I was in high school and college.

My 1991 Buick Regal was the best we've owned. She has over 240K on her now. When DS got his own car, we quit driving it. I would love to get her back on the road.

My last car was a 2000 Nissan Altima - loved it and never had a problem with it.

I've only had 2 cars, a 2000 Ford Focus and a 2007 Honda Accord. The 2000 Ford Focus was a total piece of garbage. Multiple recalls, super random stuff always going wrong.
My 2007 Honda Accord has 70K miles on it and I've never had a problem. Just do the maintenance and that's it.

strider. If possible i would purchase either a new subaru, or an older, already has over 150/200K on it model. In my, limited i'll admit, experience, subarus last forever if treated well, and their owners tend to drive them on and on and on... if there is a 06-07 for sale, i'd wonder if something was wrong with it...
Maybe i'm just overgeneralizing?
I purchased mine new and the plan is to buy a new one again in 4 more years when the oldest turns 16... and then give this one to him...

oped, I don't want to by new because I'm merely paying for the depreciation. I don't want to ever by brand brand new.

Ok. Have a good mechanic look at it before you buy. Personally, i don't like paying for other people's mistakes... and i've found that depreciation is not significant if you are buying a car every 10-12 years, instead of every 2-3... but to each his own...

It's a good point but with a Subaru you can't really go wrong. Now a Dodge Charger on the other hand.....

I have had a 2002 Ford Explorer since mid-2005. I love it, runs great, no issues, problems, etc.... decent on the mileage, roughly 18-19 MPG. Has about 102,000 miles on it.

I got a slightly used 2000 Ford Focus when I turned 16 (in 2003). It has done really well for me with just regular maintenance/repairs. Keep your fingers crossed!

This appears to be true. When I went looking for my 2007 Forester, there were very few used Subarus available - ANY Subaru. Any that were in the paper had well over 200K miles and I didn't want to go there.
I did find a used one at the dealer that was a couple years old, but with the incentives available at the time, a new one was only about $2000 more than the best price that I could negotiate on the used one.
It did cross my mind as to why the owners were getting rid of it.

The best car I ever owned was my 1997 Ford Ranger pickup. When I sold it at 147K miles, the only repair I had had to do on it was to replace a cam position sensor. The worst I ever owned was my first, a 1975 Honda Civic. There was hardly a month that I didn't have to put at least $100.00 in repairs into it.

We just got rid of our 1994 Ford exployer with almost 400K on it. We gave it to a friends kid who wants to fix it up. Honestly other than maintance we never did much for it mechanically till at the end it needs almost everything.
