Will be coming out soon. Wondering with the current sell off whether the funds will match the big payouts we saw last year. Fidelity Puritan paid out most of their numbers already. It was double the distribution I received last year (last yr payout was sort of disappointing) but October and November were poor performing months so my other funds that pay near the end of December, might be hurt in profit distribution numbers. Most funds should start posting on their website what the long and short term gains as well as dividend numbers they have estimated per share. Should be interesting!

I'm talking with my FA next Tuesday. Interested in any tax loss selling or buying before year end. Also told him we need to go over any changes in "our " investment plan for 2019. With any luck our ride might be smoother next year.

Our two Vanguard funds paid the capital gains and dividends out around December 21st. Both paid out more than they did last year, and considering how December hurt their portfolio and had to affect some capital gains numbers for the year's payout, it was really an outstanding year for the funds we own. We should be able to pull out less than they paid in shares next year from our IRA'S to fund our needs, and keep the funds above the closing values for this year, unless the markets tank in 2019. I will turn 70 1/2 in 2019 so will pull out some money in 2019 so I do not have to pull two distributions in 2020. I do not think the markets will tank in 2019.

Our two Vanguard funds are now both above ther share price when they paid their capital gains and dividends out on December 21st. Hopefully January will be a good month for the funds with the markets stabilized and about to claw back some of the fourth qtr stock price swoon.

I have only been in the taxable account game for a few years now and was able to tax loss harvest 3k for the year which mostly offset my dividends and capital gains. In the not so far off future I'm going to have to adjust my W-4 at work for my taxable account dividends/capital gains to make sure I don't have a tax bill with a penalty at year end.

Update of last year's post on mutual fund payouts Fidelity Puritan paid out part of their capital gains and dividend income this last weekend, and announced what they will also be paying in December for the year end. Based on the payout it is close to last years numbers, thus showing another good year for people in some mutual funds. Everyone will be pleasantly surprised with the account numbers they will be shown after the new year begins.

My Fidelity Low Priced Stock paid out a dividend and capital gain last month. I'm sure there will be another in December, too. I didn't even pay attention to how much it was. I normally reinvest it all.
Overall, I believe the fund is down about 3% in the last year. YTD, up 13%, so not bad, considering how the year started out.

I know this thread is a year old, but decided to bump it up. This year's distribution by many investment funds in your mutual fund portfolio, 401-k's, and IRA's might be paying out more than last year's distribution of dividends and capital gains. Why? Because the S&P 500 Index is up over 25% for the year, and many companies increased their dividend rates over the year. You might be able to go online and check your fund and see if they list the payout per share on their website. Many of you will be very happy. We are looking at two years of big returns!

Since we are near year end of 2019, it is time for everyone to open those year end statements for any of your investments, be it stocks, bonds, Ira's 401-k's and even the pension fund if you have one...... Although you cannot control the pension, you can take control of just about everything else, make changes on poor performing funds, etc.
In my case, most of our stocks are doing great, and have increased dividends either in 2019 or late 2018, and in some cases both. Only loser for us is WBA, Walgreen's Boots Alliance, and we will hang in on it in 2020. Pays a great dividend. XOM might be considered a loser also, but it prints a healthy dividend and we reinvest the dividends buying more shares at cheap prices. I see oil rising in 2020 and XOM should increase in share value. Our three IRA's have produced good to great returns this year. We have been removing funds to pay our expenses (own two homes, two mortgages- one small, one medium, plus qtrly payments for state and federal taxes) but the value increases more than we take out. I am hit with the minimum withdrawl requirements this year but since we draw down faster than required, and still build equity, it is a gigantic win for us...... did not see that happening in retirement, year five. Medicare and supplemental premiums keep biting into the mix, but so far it is ok. Wife fell into the donut hole this year and hit us hard in October......something to think about for everyone in retirement planning. Good luck, pay attention to your investments and you should be rewarded. Stay healthy and wealthy in 2020 and beyond. Peace.
