The first record, is a sad one, as big money does buy some elections...... From the article:
Fundraising for congressional elections Early-voter turnout in a non-presidential election The number of candidates running The number of female candidates running The number of female candidates elected The number of LGBT candidates running The number of women of color running The youngest woman ever elected to Congress The first Native American women elected to Congress The first Muslim women elected to Congress The first Korean-American woman elected to Congress The first openly LGBT governor

I'm happy to see the diversity. I'm happy to see the voting percentage up. Both make us a stronger country.

For the record, I love that list. Many of you feel you know me from your comments you post here on the threads. I love the fact that all demographics voted in large numbers. I always want the high turnout. We need it as a nation to survive. I love the diversity-we have to hear from all segments of our society. I have no problem with my desires are out voted. I may not like it, and will disagree, but if the majority says differently, so be it. I just have to work harder to get my voice heard and registered. thanks!

GA had voting issues they blamed on humidity.
Humidity did not deliver voting machines to a polling place but forget to bring the power cords, leaving people waiting for four hours to vote.

From the article: Fundraising for congressional elections ... I put "big money" in the same category as any other thing that influences voters. I think it is great when someone with billions takes a few million out of wherever they have it stashed and pay people, buy advertising time and space, print signs, etc in local communities. Wish they would spend even more of their wealth.

That is just obscene.

... The race for my district's US Representative spent $10 mil. That is just obscene. How much of it was "outside" money pumped into our local economy? I'm sure a lot was "outside" money but I don't believe any of it went into the local economy other than the Cowles' for TV ads. Found this from KREM 2 "The latest data from the Federal Election Commission and the Center for Responsive Politics said the McMorris Rodgers campaign is getting 49 percent of her campaign contributions from in-state sources, and 51 percent from out-of-state. Comparatively, 88 percent of Brown's funds come from donors within Washington and 12 percent are from out-of-state. Within the 5th District, McMorris Rodgers is getting 22 percent of her campaign money from the area she represents, and the other 69 percent comes from outside of the district. For Brown, 47 percent comes from people and organizations within the 5th District and 43 percent comes from out of the district. " www.krem.com/article/news/investigations/mcmorris-rodgers-vs-brown-where-the-moneys-coming-from/293-600256755I think maybe one way to reduce "outside" money is to require the donors live in at least the state of the rep. or senator they want to donate to. I know that will never fly but a girl can dream.

I was blown away by the turnout in my community. My ward was so close to hitting 60% turnout. My entire town's turnout ended up being 56%, those other two wards dragged us down. Lol. My county's turnout was 67%. Impressive for a midterm! One community put us all to shame - nearly 76% of their registered voters came out!

... I think maybe one way to reduce "outside" money is to ... We all "know" that big money is "bad". But why? Are people concerned that they are too influenced by that money? Or is it other voters that they wish to shield from influence? Or are people considered that an office holder will do things in the interest of outsiders and that voters won't hold them accountable? What does it say about a person's view of their fellow citizen's ability to make an intelligent voting decision? I wonder if it wouldn't just be better to not allow the stupid people to vote?

I hear you, but unless my bilionaire donor does the same thing for the other candidate, the playing field is not level, and that is where the misleading attack ads kick in and blow up the actual differences between candidates and voters lose focus and not everyoe votes on actual thoughts of the candidates .

We have zero of, I think 123 precincts reported......will not know any results until, hopefully tomorrow The county is about 75%/80% Republican. Turns out a bunch of precincts in Portage which is about 50 maybe 60% democrat (not sure on %) had a bunch of precincts open late because the precincts did not have enough staff to open them. Court ordered them to remain open in the evening a couple hours after normal hours, but it is a complete mess today. I think staffing issues were brought up because they made it an unpaid day off for county employees who usually staff the precincts. Glad I am in Florida the home of hanging chads. Here is an article, although it does not cover the late polls opening that did trigger the mess. Evidently it goes much deeper than late poll openings. www.nwitimes.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/update-no-porter-county-election-results-until-at-least-friday/article_91b8db58-8ab4-5cbf-b232-d78cffb812de.html#1

A level playing field is a nice concept but I don't see it as really achievable by matching dollar amounts. In fact, equal dollar amounts negatively effect lesser known candidates to the benefit of those who have a strong public image. I am fully aware that Coke-a-cola is not going to unite the world and that political ads are very slanted. I know that no two candidates represent the full embodiment of good and evil. Money or none I don't see impacting the "focus" of people. I have never known the "actual thoughts of (a) candidate".

Florida is still the shit hole for election counting validation purposes. Broward county keeps finding more uncounted ballots, evidently, so many they will tell us when they have enough to give the victory to Nelson.....

They have till Saturday to count votes. Yesterday was the deadline to rectify provisional ballots. It’s a process. I do want to see what’s up with the 24k difference in senate/governor votes.
Actually as the race race closes all it secures is an automatic HAND recount... which should better uncover any issue.
