Was it the random violence, the showcasing of deplorable human conduct, the pornography, the pointless side plots, the pseudo-horror-pic chase scenes, or the psychotic chaining together of it all that won you over?

In violent movies I do a body count. In one movie there were 32 dead/injured in the first 60 secs of the flick...I think it was a Steven Segal flick

Thanks Virgil!!! This thread cracked me up. ![](http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/smileys/1-1.gif) There was a study years ago that when a couple watch a chick flick together 85% of the time they will have sex afterwards. Just saying. ![](http://us.social.s-msn.com/s/images/emoticons/wink_smile.gif)

How do you get 'chick flick' out of Black Swan? It's more of a bad 'Scream' remake.
A third of the movie is dialogue, a third is slasher flick, and a third is Natalie Portman puking into a toilet. No romance. No love triangles. No affirmation of the human spirit.

Virg, I guess it just depends on what does it for you. And 973...well, we all know that she is kinkier than a damp poodle chewing an electric cord That's just part of her charm ![](http://us.social.s-msn.com/s/images/emoticons/wink_smile.gif) I still haven't seen the movie. It's 2nd on my list of recent releases that I want to see. The King's Speech tops the list.

just finished and liked 100% of the movie! I'm thinking cause so many didn't like it? so I liked it that much more? for example I can't stand Avatar! what a waste of my life! I wanted to see Black Swan because I heard Natalie Portman is in a girl on girl sex scene That was my motivation to see it and I thought I would fast forward to the scene - but nope watched the whole movie and it was great! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

GA: I heard "The King's Speech" is outstanding. Not my type of movie typically, but I am going to rent it. I wouldn't classify "The Black Swan" as a chick flick AT ALL.

I want to rent "The Lincoln Lawyer." I haven't read the book though. Has anyone seen it?

Moxie. My poor dear confused Moxie. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/melancholy.png) What could you have possibly seen in this twisted, painful excuse of a movie to call it "outstanding"? Pray tell me you meant "outstandingly bad". Or, you and your DH were "outstanding" in the rain and hailing a cab before the movie was over.

I love off the wall movies. I thought of the movie All That Jazz for some reason after seeing Black Swan. Been forever since seeing ATJ so may have to see if it is available - it is really old.
Saw The King's Speech. Didn't think it would be a movie I would like since not my type, but friend convinced me to watch. It is a good movie.

It just kept me watching, wondering what would happen next, getting into her (Portman's character) head...I like movies like that. The relationship between Portman's character and her Mom was a very interesting one. I like movies that deal with the human psyche.
*A really AWFUL movie to me would be something like "Mulholland Drive." Seriously, what was THAT???

based on the critical acclaim
There's your mistake right there. 9 times out of 10 if the critics love a movie, its not going to be something the general public will enjoy.

Interesting...I have it sitting here on my desk, borrowed it from someone who raved about how great it was. I thought I'd watch it, but, honestly, it's been sitting there for almost 2 weeks now. I have such a limited attention span these days, the thought of sitting down to watch a movie is not high on my list. Plus, after watching my Yankees play, it leaves little time to watch an entire movie. I need to either watch it or give it back though ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

I ended up watching it last night. It wasn't the best movie ever, but it wasn't bad...I thought the sex scene's were a bit much for a PG13 rating ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

It had mutilation, masturbation, lesbian sex, sexual assault. It had that disgusting monologue by the director about what the female ballerinas should be making the audience think.
The characters were lecherous, psychotic, perverted, cruel, self-absorbed, or some combination of them all. The protagonist's family, personal, and professional life were utterly dysfunctional. There wasn't a single character in the movie who wasn't a repulsive human being on some level.
Maybe that was the point.
I felt like taking a shower after watching it. Maybe I just can't stomach R-rated movies anymore.

But if I'll be traumatized afterward - I'd rather not. Were any animals or children hurt in this move? I'm used to sick adults and their perversions just from the news, but animals and children being involved - I'll never get used to that.
