suziq,
I bought 4 scunci today. I received 1.99 & 2 Ups for 2 and just 2 Ups for the remaining 2. SaveinLA, Were the Scunchis that you bought "BOGOF doublepacks?" (36 CT). I think that may have something to do with it. I'm going to try to buy another one tomorrow, and see if I get the double ups. suzi, No. They were just regular 18 pks. The store that I went to was a new one for me and they had only the single packs. There was an email from RA that said the deal was on any scunci elastics. So it's not just the double pack. HTH

Hello Ladies, Quick ?. So I have a lot of RRs to burn. I've been rolling and rolling and rolling for weeks now and I'm noticing the costs of HIGH taxes (IL) is cutting into my MM (these are cumulative of Neuragena, Arnica, Mortin and now Almay & Tena RRs), so I thinks it time to use them since there's not much to roll into right now. At this point since most of this is "free" MM money (well, some of it is OOP_taxes that I got technically back), its doesn't matter much if I do a cost or sheet count comparison analysis on which TP sale btw Jewel's Cottenelle vs Wags Charmin vs Wags Scott vs Jewel Quilted Northern is better since Its all RRs money paying? Yes? Same question for food items..... $4.99 for strawberries(pay with RR at Jewel) vs $2 OOP at some other store. No OOP option wins out, yes? I'm having a bit of a problem paying 2 times for something, but I know it means no OOP which is the end goal. Also for IL ladies . ....... is there anyway to use Q's, ECBs and/or RRs cut into taxes? My experience says no, but just double checking. Thanks. I'm going to piggyback on DancinMama here and say, money is money. You should be doing the same analysis when you pay with RR as when you pay with cash. This is the problem that most people have when they get a tax return or a financial gift. They look at it as "free" money. But money is money. DancinMama gave a very good example of how you wouldn't want to overpay for something just because you are using RR's. When I've had RR's to burn, I usually pick up whatever is the low price at Wags that week. For me, that often has meant tuna, since we use a lot of that. Other things I have picked up are granola bars and fruit. I wouldn't spend my RR's on toilet paper that is overpriced, UNLESS I was cash poor. That is the only reason I could see that you would use the RR's in that way - if you are otherwise broke. And, if that is the case, in the future, you'll want to be careful about not overbuying things that end up with RR's, because now you've seen what happens when you have too many RR's. I hope that helps and I hope it doesn't sound judgmental or anything. It's all a learning experience. I never actively did MM's until about 3 months ago, and I'm figuring out which MM's make sense for me to jump on and which don't. In my case, for example, I've found that some MM's have resulted in my having things that I can't easily donate and that's not good. So I'll skip those in the future. ...Ok, that's the end of my rambling

HOUND:Hi - I'm looking for Cottonelle toilet paper coupons that are higher than .50/1. I'm not even sure if these exist - lol! But a girl can hope, right? The husband only likes Cottonelle, so I figured that is one thing that I will be nice and not substitute I'm planning to buy it on 4/17 at RA, so I would need coupons that don't expire until at least that date. If anyone has 1-2 of my imaginary coupons, would you pm me? Thanks Leanna

Thanks Leanna leanna: All I see in the coupon database is a $.50/1 from the 3/13 SS that expires 4/24 so it is doubtful that a new insert coupon will come out before then, but you never know. Sometimes insert coupons do overlap. There may be a blinkie around some where, but I have heard that those beep at RA and some have had problems getting their store to take them. Most of my toilet paper stockpile is Cottonelle thanks to a great CVS scenario that mawmaw posted over a year ago that allowed me to get FREE (20) double roll packages (actually it was a MM). Since I was new to CVS and did not know that they would take two MCs when they ran a BOGO deal, I never would have figured it out myself. At the time, a lot of the gals were posting about being able to double coupons to get 4-roll packages of Angel Soft for free; but no doubling for me so using drug chain rewards was the only way that I could get "free" TP. Every time I think of toilet paper stockpiles, I think of mawmaw. THANKS mawmaw!!

Other than that, I have not seen any cottonelle Qs that have been high value. Here's to hoping we will see one soon. ETA - don't they have a 1$ VVQ in RA that you can use for the deal? I am not sure, but I thought we had cottonelle VVQs every month.

My one local paper (PA) had $1/1 in the 3/13 inserts, so, there are some out there, but probably very regional. I already used the one I had at Wags a couple weeks ago.

I don't know if this qualifies for a Hound Alert or not, but while I was in Walmart using some of my Cascadian Farm produce Q's, I noticed a display of snack pack candy bars for $1.00. I bought one pack each of Snickers and Milky Way and used my $2.00/2 Mars IPQ. I got 16 snack size candy bars for nothing. There's also a $2.00/2 Mars Q in the April All You Magazine.

leanna -- there are $1 Cottonella (any 12 pack) and $1.50 ( Ultra only) for sale on Ebay. I've had very good luck buying Q's on Ebay, I try to use any East coast seller and not get tied up with slow mail delivers.

Here's a bit of a drive-by post. CVS has a Kellogg's Special K monthly deal going 4/1 to 4/31: Special K cereal or bars - 3/$10, get $4 EB. Limit 5 On the Special K site there's a $2/3 bricks.coupons.com/Bstart.asp?o=83359&c=SK&p=lhCwy3cqThat makes these 3/$4 after coupons & EBs. These bars are DH's favorite, so I will be stocking up

Does anyone know offhand around how much Swiffer solution is at Wags? I noticed last weekend I was on my last bottle and was watching for a sale. I see next week it's 25% off and you get a $3 RR wyb $10. I have a couple MC's from the P&G booklet and there may be more in the insert this weekend. They aren't great, but, thought it might be a decent deal.

Hello Ladies, Also for IL ladies . ....... is there anyway to use Q's, ECBs and/or RRs cut into taxes? My experience says no, but just double checking. Thanks. The only way to cut into taxes in IL that I know is currently working is this: At CVS, if you pay with EB and do NOT use MFR coupons, then you only pay tax on the amt not covered by the EB, if any. If you are able to pay the exact subtotal with EB, you pay NO tax. Therefore, if you are buying $10 worth of product and paying with $9 EB and $1 cash (so your tax would be roughly .10) and you have only 1 mfr coupon of .50, it's cheaper NOT to use the mfr coupon, because if you use the coupon, you'd have to pay $1.00 tax total, so .40 more than if you used the coupon. (I live in Chicago - 9.75% tax, more on soda and bottled water, so adjust your math according to where you are). HTH

Warning : This is long Part 1: DancinMama and leanna . Thanks for your responses. I decided to ask a question without going into details to make the post short so let me back up a bit and give you both a clearer picture. I think I should clarify something first. These were RRs are pure profit except that I've been rolling them into more MM deals, so I've had to pay taxes & fillers but the net is that is still 85% of the RRs is MM vs OOP(taxes). That's why I listed those specific high-valued MM deals, since there are the only ones I do in high quantity. Let me give you a very quick example. 2/13 week : I had a $3 RR RightGuard that I rolled into: $5.99 Arnicare - 2 Q + 0.20 filler Val pencil week +9.5% taxes - 3 RR RightGuard = Paid 1.77, Got $6 RR...small MM on this one(1.77+3, got $6 RR). Then I used to buy Neuragen : I know I did 9 of these $14.99 -10 Q + Filler (normally the dried fruits for $1 or 2/$1 Nuts) + 2.25% Taxes - 6 Arnica Paid OOP 45 cents, Got $10 RR ($4 MM) 2 weeks later .......2/27 weekRolled all the $10 RR Neuragen and some Arnica RR that I had into that Colgate ($2 MM....Wags Q and Mfr Q)) & Baby Magic & Nasal MM($1 MM) RR week. Paid Taxes + 0.25 filler, but ended up in total with the same total RRs. Did a Lot of Mortin ...... $3 RR pure profits minus1.75% taxes on the $6.00 =11 cents - cost of coupon(30 cents). The bulk of my RRs2 weeks later... 3/13 when RRs were about to expire (dancimama might remember this cos I posted the same ? in a round-about way), I rolled into the Applied Nutrition thing (cost me $0.21 in taxes + $2 fillers that I use daily (nuts & salt). 2 weeks later ........3/20Did a lot of Almay ...... pure profits as I used both $2/1 Wags & Mfr Qs and I got the Towelettes ($4.19)....about $4 MM. The bulk of my RRsThen I rolled into Tena ( 3/26) ....I paired the $2.50 Tena MM with Always, so while I had to pay $1.73 for taxes & fillers, I got it all back via $2 Always RRs. This was truly my first stockplie attempt on Always but it did clue me into the taxes issue since I did a lot and later noticed that my OOP added up quite a bit. There are also some Pebbles MM and Reach MM in there too. Now there is reason why I listed this out ....... do you see a pattern here with me? Can you see what my answer to this is ..... picghaw: Ask yourself this: If someone handed you a $5 bill for no reason, would you give some thought to how you spent it? Don't forget that a $5RR is WORTH $5..

contd .... Part 2: Now there is reason why I listed this out ....... do you see a pattern here with me? Can you see what my answer to this is ..... picghaw: Ask yourself this: If someone handed you a $5 bill for no reason, would you give some thought to how you spent it? Don't forget that a $5RR is WORTH $5.. I would save it. I'm a saver and I see the RR just like cash. My nature is to hoard...err.. save cash and spent wisely when necessary so I'm noticing that its hard for me to stockpile large quantities of items cos I would rather be saving the cash to use on things that I need on a daily basis and that cost me more money on a monthly basis. So essentially, I've been picking up a few items here and there but I have really been hounding MM RR deals and not stockpiling items per se. The "good" issue that I have now is that after the Tena thing it dawned on me that its costing me Taxes ergo OOP to keep the rolling the RRs , therefore, I am ONLY losing a bit of the profit that I initially got even though in most cases (see Tena example) I got it my OOP back via RRs. . My initial plan was to use the RRs to buy edible/perishables groceries which is my budget buster so I shop at Jewel & use these RRs which is pricey than where I would normally shop. My Food bill is HIGH compared to what I see from you ladies, so I think the RRs serves me better that way than having TP, toothpaste, Paper Towels etc for 2 years to come. To me, saving $200 per month (food/edible groceries) now seems better than spreading that $200 savings over many months of not buying non-edible groceries..especially when I'm not seeing the rock-bottom prices that you ladies speak off. I have yet to come across free TP, Paper Towels, detergent (high OOP items for me). I've gotten lotion, BW, deodorant for free and coupled with Jewel's Congra Sale, Target's Frozen Food sale, BUT getting stuff for free& cheap is what is keeping my RRs intact, yes? That's what I meant in my first initial post, I am trying to sike myself out of rolling. IMO, you ladies inadvertently confirmed my reasoning for rolling ;D. If there was something to roll into this week, I would have interpreted your advice as "continue rolling". I agree with both of you. Its hurts me to spend soooo much more at Jewel but how can I spend OOP at another store when I have RRs that are going to expire. So I've been hoarding(rolling) the RRs while waiting patiently for rock bottom prices to show up in order to use them wisely. I haven't seen these rock bottom prices yet IMO (okay, okay yes, its probably cos I only look for MM deals and shop every 2 weeks ). Anyway, it seems the rolling-train has come to an end and I have to get off and spend RRs . DancinMama , I know you suggested rebates weeks ago but somehow I didn't really understand the connection btw converting RRs to rebate cash in time to start on this earlier. I did 3 rebates last week (Neuragen, Arthrest and Theraflu). Thanks for the rebate instructions from a Jan post! So, what's your advice now with all facts on the table? Does it stay the same? Continue to Roll? Or Stockpile time... start buying? Technically, doesn't this mean I'm getting stuff for free....sort of. With no MM deal and $ 10 Tena RRs, I think its stockpile/buying time. Feel free to point out the error my thought process. I think doing a lot of high-valued MM deals is good when MM is 10X OOP (like Mortin & Almay & Neuragen & Reach) but if not, break it down to me as I'm here to learn. Whew, this long but its been bugging me for a long time as you can see. I hope this can spur conversation that may help someone else that's in my shoes. Its a "good" problem(too many MM RRs) to have though...... I believe. I just wish the expiration date was 1 month long then I would essentially be set for food groceries for the month of April.

THANKS!

picghaw - what about using some of your MM RRs to buy newpapers? that's what i burn mine on since they are $2 ea. i'd rather not pay cash for the coupons. so if there aren't good rolling scenarios or even if i have a higher value RR being rolled into a smaller one & need more expensive fillers i'll buy a paper. you may have better sources to get your inserts so it might not be a problem for you but it's something to consider.

Picghaw, I got tired just reading your posts - lol! (ETA - Must have been exhausting to write it all up! LOL!) I suppose everyone has a different system -or perhaps no system - so I can't say that what works for me will work for you. I probably don't roll as much as other people. I tend to roll, roll, buy. Or even roll, buy. I absolutely agree with you when you said this: My Food bill is HIGH compared to what I see from you ladies, so I think the RRs serves me better that way than having TP, toothpaste, Paper Towels etc for 2 years to come. As I mentioned in my post earlier, what I tend to do is use the RR's for items that I would buy at the grocery store - ie tuna, applesauce, granola bars. HOWEVER, I only buy them at Wags when they are the same LOW price that I could get them for at the grocery store. For example: albacore tuna. The LOW price on this where I live is $1 per 5 oz can*. Occasionally, it will go even lower, ie .89 or things where I can get a free can, etc. That's rare though. The $1 price is the generally low price, so I am happy to pick it up at Wags using a RR - particularly if that RR was all or some profit. *(A note here - some of you may live in lower cost of living areas, so please do know that this is truly a low price where I live.) To answer the last question you posted: Yes, you are getting things for free. But, just because you are getting things for free, you should still get those things at the lowest cost. You had to spend time & energy to gain those free RR's, so you want to use them just as wisely as the cash. Going back to my example - if tuna is not on sale at Wags the week I have RR's to spend, I am not going to pay $2 or $2.50 a can just because I'm paying with "free" RR's. I would look for whatever is something I can get for a good price that would reduce my grocery bill, but that I would still be happy with the price. So, picghaw, I'm new on here (but not new to a frugal lifestyle) so I don't know where you're at in terms of shopping. Do you use a price book? Do you know what the LOW prices are on the items that you regularly buy for groceries?

Leanna, I have some Cottonelle 12-pack Double roll for 0.75/1. Not sure if that's what you wanted. I definitely would be happy with anything over .50! But let's see if Mizbear happens to have 2 of her $1 ones. I hate to have you spend .44 on 1 coupon that will save me an additional .25. That probably doesn't make much sense.

Oh, I want to add one more thing about this comment you made: I have yet to come across free TP, Paper Towels, detergent (high OOP items for me).
I find that bargain items come at different times. Right now, these past few weeks and going into this week, I'm finding it's "free makeup season" in my world. I stocked up on free Almay the prior week at Wags, and tomorrow I'll be stocking up on free Physicians Formula from RA. Around the holidays and continuing into January it was free Shampoo, Conditioner & Bodywash. So, don't worry about what you CAN'T get for free. Just get the deals you can, and focus on knowing what the low price is for the main things you buy.

HTH Wow, it's interesting how the registers work differently in different states. In CA, the REGISTERS will allow you to cut into sales tax at both CVS and RA, but not at WAGs. The difference is that the rewards at CVS and RA are store rewards, where the rewards at WAGs are MCs.

I believe. I just wish the expiration date was 1 month long then I would essentially be set for food groceries for the month of April. picghaw: For the most part, I think you've answered your own questions and have found a system that works for you. You have even realized the price you pay to roll RRs - especially if you are rolling into something that you will not use. And yes, the deals like the Motrin, Almay, and Reach are the best kinds of RR deals that you can do. The best thing to do is to "get in" when these deals come around. Then only roll into things that are going to yield yet another LARGE profit in RRs or into something that you want to stockpile. If there is no such animal, then spend them and "get out". Before that great TP deal that mawmaw posted for Cottonelle at CVS, the only way that I could get FREE TP or paper towels was to buy them using coupons and "free" RRs, but I could not use my RRs anywhere else so there ya go. And it all depends on your budget. Like you said, you'd rather use the RRs to supplement the money that you'd have to spend on groceries anyway rather than build a 2-year stockpile of something. Since I have never had the opportunity to experiment with using RRs elsewhere, I can't really speak to that. I'm sure there would have been times when it would have come in really handy and I would have opted to spend them on groceries rather than TP or paper towels. If you have found a system that you are comfortable with and that seems to work for you (and it seems that you have), I'd stick with it. Just be very sensitive to what the true cost of the RRs are (the sales tax and fillers, to say nothing about time and gas) and whether you're really saving that much by having to use them on groceries at a grocery store where the prices are higher than what you would otherwise pay in cash elsewhere. HTH

picghaw - what about using some of your MM RRs to buy newpapers? that's what i burn mine on since they are $2 ea. i'd rather not pay cash for the coupons. so if there aren't good rolling scenarios or even if i have a higher value RR being rolled into a smaller one & need more expensive fillers i'll buy a paper. you may have better sources to get your inserts so it might not be a problem for you but it's something to consider. Yes, that's something to consider. Since I can get them for $1 at Menards/Dollar tree, I normally just pay OOP for them...... but I'll have to change that next Sunday. Thanks.
