The skit was on Comedy Central's The Man Show in 2000. Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC did not begin until 2003.

Megyn Kelly would still be with NBC had she thought before she spoke.
Kelly will land on her feet somewhere.

Being against blackface isn't political, it's not being a racist asshole. I didn't know that painting one's face to match a character was considered "racism" until I started posting on YMAM. It's not an intuitive judgment, and the issue had never come up in my life. Blackface minstrelsy is ancient history, not even taught in Canadian schools. My point being that the only reason blackface is considered racism is because some want it to endure as a symbol of racism. Anyone not indoctrinated into this symbolism (which would probably include Ms. Kelly's childhood contemporaries) would naturally assume there was nothing racist about it. On the contrary, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Would you presume to call all such people "racist assholes"? Would you go further to call anyone who argues that face painting shouldn't endure as a symbol of racism a "racist asshole"? Furthermore, if it's so important that a symbol endure, what of Mr. Kaepernick's taking a knee during the national anthem? Many here have justified his actions on the basis of his claiming they aren't intended to disrespect to the flag or the nation, despite public perceptions to the contrary. Why then would we not accept the rationale of a man with painted face claiming he intends no disrespect to blacks? The fact that these issues can't even be debated without one side being summarily labeled "racist assholes" or "America-haters" should grieve everyone here.
Virgil, you’re being deliberately obtuse. Be better than that.

She apologized so who knows what will happen now I thought her audience gave her a good bye after her apology...In a look up, she has a net worth of $15 million...though losing the $9 million a year she was earning with all the benefits will smart but am sure she will make it somewhere if the powers to be can see it being profitable for them...a better return then what they are getting now... Actually back in the day my kid brother did a fantastic Aunt Jamima...good enough that he played it for some years with the hugh bosum...black face...done by burnt cork applied...headscarf..skirt, blouse...nothing bad thought about it at all.... For those too young...there was a top artist who played his trade in black face...Al Johnson...top rated in his field. Am sure the black community might have been unhappy with his portrayal but who had enough clout to complain back then... Different time and place...Actually I believe there are millions of Americans who would love to return to those by gone days.

If I'm remembering, the man show pretty much made its name on being assholes and stupid shit... and it was hard to tell if it was serious or more sarcastic/tongue in cheek. I believe there was a downfall to the show but I'm blanking because I didn't watch.

It’s only not okay if you’re not liberal. You should know that from experience.

Modern liberalism. A comment about black face is actually worse than ACTUAL blackface aka Kimmel!! Well...it was the defending of blackface and refusal to listen as to why it's now uncouth that was the last straw for Megan.
And honestly, I wasn't a fan of Jimmy Kimmel at all when he first started. I thought he was crass. Maybe having children has mellowed him out a bit? I still don't watch him, but I haven't heard of him being like he was 15 years ago.

Somehow like most talking heads, he’s gotten the idea that he’s important enough to listen to about things other than comedy.

Of course the picture of Bill and Hillary dressed up and she’s in blackface is okay because of who they are.

It's not an intuitive judgment, and the issue had never come up in my life. ... My point being that the only reason blackface is considered racism is because some want it to endure as a symbol of racism. ... ... I have no problem giving them that. I don't use the word retarded to refer to things that I perceive as stupid nor gay to refer to things I perceive as weird. There is no significant reason to use them just as there is nothing that makes it necessary to do blackface. "It isn't necessary to..." isn't a sufficient argument to counterindicate anything. Otherwise I agree. Have you ever seen one of the minstrel shows with blackface characters? Painting a face black isn't per se racist, but seeing what was done with it made it that way. It's like saying burning a cross in the front yard of a black family isn't racist, nor is hanging a noose in a tree. Those acts, taken out of context, seem harmless. Look at the history behind them and it sends a clearly racist message. I can agree that the symbolism is established--for the same reason I criticized Mr. Kaepernick for taking a knee during the anthem. Certain gestures have established meanings, and, though we might wish to change them, wishing doesn't make it so. But justme's claim--widely 'liked' by the hoi polloi--was that rejecting face painting as a racist symbol, or simply debating it, makes one a "racist asshole". The equivalent would be me calling you an anti-American asshole for disputing the symbolism of Mr. Kaepernick taking a knee.

So you are saying if someone was an asshole 15, 20 or 36 years ago but grew up, that their former behavior shouldn’t be held against them? I agree with you, btw. I was an asshole in high school and am nothing like the person I was almost 30 years ago.

If they recognize what they did was wrong, take full acceptance of what they did, and have demonstrated that they have actually grown up - sure. If they offer no apology or a perfunctory one, don't grasp what was wrong about it, make excuses, brush it off, explain it was just what everyone did back then, and are merely X number of years older - nope.

Lester Holt dressed in white face as Susan Boyle. Who knows what the real policy is of the "media"?
