Probably. I don't think the secret service typically makes public reports about thwarted presidential assassination attempts.
Don't think they're required to.
Willing to bet all presidents have been targets of all manner of crazies, enemies, and radical political movements.

Secret Service does their job. So? From the article: Agents then discovered that one jihadi was hiding out in downtown Manila, just blocks from the hotel where the president was staying. When the discovery was made by the Secret Service, Trump was about 20 minutes from landing in the country on Air Force One. The agents tracked down the ISIS operative in a park approximately 1 mile away from Trump’s hotel. The operative was meeting with an “associate” when Secret Service members apprehended them.

Are you thinking this will make me sympathetic to Trump, that someone from ISIS tried to kill him?
Someone is always trying to kill presidents. That's why the SS is there. Fortunately for us, they are awesome at their jobs. And if Trump didn't want to be the target of an assassination attempt, he should never have run for office in the first place. Probably one of the many consequences of winning office that he never thought through.

No, no sympathy for Trump. I would never expect it here from posters. I am more concerned why we never knew it happened. It would have been proof about ISIS, and whether the world still has a prblem with this organization and fulfilled Trump's accusation about the organization, which put the Democrats back into tmeltdown mode. I am wondering why Trump's team kept it quiet.

"I am wondering why Trump's team kept it quiet."
I think that's simple. It would hurt his narrative that ISIS has been conquered on his watch.

This stuff is never simple. Releasing this information could potentially jeopardize our agents/contacts on the ground. Information can be traced backwards and people can be exposed, putting them in great danger.

Yes, but the fact of the matter he is no longer on the street tells ISIS he was compromised, so i would think they would be checking the situation out and know the secret service was involved.

There are probably TONS of things the public never hears about. My guess is there has not only been numerous attempts on the life of US presidents through the years, but attempts to kill many American citizens that we never hear about.
There are reasons why information such as this is not released to the public. And of course ISIS is still a problem... I don't think anyone thinks they aren't, and even if they weren't they would be replaced by some other terrorist organization. Terrorism is always going to be an issue.

I suspect they want to avoid copy cats.
If they publish that this guy got within 2 blocks of Trump's motorcade with a bazooka, 15 more nut jobs will show up with bazookas, thinking they've got a good chance of reaching his motorcade, too.
It can help show any weaknesses in the security system, which others can try to exploit.
As far as ISIS knowing this guy was compromised - of course they'll know that. Won't stop them from trying again. That's what terrorists do.
