So maybe employers will consider hiring some of the unemployed willing to work but due to past hx such as a felony or maybe a hx of having trouble passing a drug screen particularly if that screen indicates solely mj use or maybe if a current screen indicates solely mj use. There seem in the state I live in quite a few 'help wanted' signs for jobs that do not require a high level of skill or a high level of educational achievement. Hire many people??

Same old, same old...they broke the rules, the law...my s**t does not smell..I have never ever broke a law..never ever didn't cheat on taxes..shop lifted.. Criminal...deport em…..What about the 800,000 kids here through no fault of them selves, the dreamers...they are as American as u and your kids......how about INS targeting families...been here for decades...deporting the mother , father...never caused problems...paid taxes... Obama told INS to go after the criminals..the criminal criminals, not those who were here illegally...just cool it with them...have em registered, show up once a year..go home, work , raise the kids.. Trump and his people...here illegally...forget who, what, family disruptions and worse...deport em..Make my quota of pickups this week .."lets check out these businesses...." Exactly! (bolded) This is a nation of laws. There is also a code in place for the level of punishment, for not following the laws. Save the rest of your 'poor them' posturing, for political rallies. Your "holier then thou" feelings sucks IMHO... I know u have broken laws...whether minor or major...u have crossed a street in the middle...u have driven over the speed limit...u probably had a cold one as u drove..especially in the heat of the summer...and other transgressions not mentioned.. I have and worse...and done things, while technically not Illegal due to laws and rules permitting the happenings...but still.... and where do u get the "poor them posturing" from my statements...This crowd of folks approaching the border...they can't be allowed to just enter... yet I have no idea how to stop them except by military force which to me means mines, artillery, tear and pepper gas, and as a final defense ...automatic fire... Would I participate in such actions? Of course not but trust me we would have plenty of Americans clamoring to be the ones to so do so...[sad but true..]

"The stock market plunged Wednesday, wiping out all of its gains for 2018. The Dow fell more than 600 points, a 2.4% drop. The S&P 500 sank more than 3%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq plummeted more than 4% -- its worst daily drop since August 2011. It is now in a correction, falling nearly 13% from its all-time high set earlier this year. ..." www.cnn.com/2018/10/24/tech/tech-earnings/index.html

Back to the threads subject. Lost $80k in 2 days last week. Made back $53k yesterday. I have dividend stock that pays well and will at the end of the month. Ken, what was the drop yesterday? Our portfolios took a $81,500 hit yesterday Our one utility was up, but everything else took a hit. I think our Kellog stock was up slightly also. One IRA down 3.96% Two down 3.6% and 3.8% respectively. DOW and Nasdaq up nicely so far today, but the recovery for the day was right now, it is about a fourth of the loss from yesterday.

But the cost to the tax payer isn't dropping...
Isn't that bad? Even MORE of your tax dollars are paying for lazy ass people who can't work or who are too sick to work (probably through their own fault).

Hmmn, the fact that fewer people are on Medicaid due to the economy is now a bad thing? Myself, I have no problem with spending increasing on people on Medicaid. it is what it is. We all know the cost is going up. Dropping enrollment is a trend due to the jobs economy. It will remain this way, but will increase with increased illegal immigration at the southern border when they are enrolled in the state's Medicaid system. I disagree about one thing mentioning seniors. Most migrate to Medicare after they are retired. Even people with disabilities migrate from state Medicaid rolls after a certain time limit to Medicare

Even when the economy tanks or when a business dies due to supply and demand? This is AWESOME! Trump is amazing! Or are you saying American Citizens are now working jobs that illegal immigrants use to work? (I don't think that's really happening).

More than 1 million?

Portfolio down 50K yesterday Well, should get back a big chunk today. Tomorrow will be a crap shoot. Draghi probably helped the U.S. markets by saying they have to keep rates low over there. I wonder if the Fed will step back in December from a rate increase due to European conditions.

Our stocks, except for one, are plus for the year, but way down from where they were this summer. All the stocks are still in a drip program, and we plan to change to taking the dividends in cash sometime next year. Most people only realize what they have lost from the high of the year rather than from the first of the year. I have not tried to figure the percentage up or down for the year. Not too worried about the number yet.

This January we both take our RMD and that should be the only withdrawal. I turned 70 in September, so I will take one in 2019. My wife is younger. Hopefully most of the RMD will be re-invested. Might spring for a new car next year. Not sure yet.

I've taken 2 RMD's and my wife has found projects to spend them on. Now with both RMD's, and hers will be 2X mine due to how we invested, she's looking at a big project.

Required minimum distribution at age 70 1/2 from IRA accounts. Then it's taxed.
