I try to minimize fast food. However DD likes it, her favorite is McD's cheeseburgers. But her cholesterol, blood pressure, all of it is great, but not good for her weight. Hubs is excellent too, only me that eats little of it has issues. She loves sushi and oriental foods as do I, hubs does not.
At home we have vegetable soup, chili, spaghetti, lasagna, casseroles of poblano peppers and ground beef mix. Salad, peas, broccoli, cabbage boiled and fried, carrots, lots of onions and garlic in foods. Garlic bread with spaghetti. Tacos, home made. I like liver and gizzards. We have catfish and its fried at times, but hubs doesn't like fish so not often. We don't have much chicken, I like marinated and baked then prepared with rice, also make noodles in chicken broth at times. We have beef roasts and use the leftovers in vegetable soup. We have fried pork chops, I make barbecued pork also. As have bean soups and ground popcorn for cornbread. I do grind wheat for bread but haven't made home made bread for awhile. We eat lots of bell peppers in our foods and celery have mac salad, potato salad, and lots of various types of pastas. And we eat lots of potatoes, baked, boiled, fried. I use canola an olive oils, sometimes lard. We eat eggs and bacon, bacon, minimal.
Minimal hot dogs with sauer kraut, luncheon meats.
I can green beans, freeze corn, strawberries, blackberries, peaches, will can and dry apples. I can tomatoes, stewed tomatoes, tomato juice, spaghetti sauce, relish, B&B pickles, green tomatoes, peaches, and beets.
We eat as much fresh foods as possible, I do use canned beans, corn at times, and other purchased canned vegetables. I do buy frozen French fries, garlic bread, tacos, and freeze lots of meats to prepare.
I think we eat pretty healthy, our big no no is we drink to many diet sodas, I have added a lot of water to my diet and am reducing the amount of soda I drink. Hubs drinks a lot of water also, so is ok, DD does not drink enough water, I am constantly trying to get her to do so. We have room for improvement.
We eat lots of everything.

As for healthy diet I don't have one. I pretty much eat what I want and like. I do not eat chicken, pork, beef. Folks say I am that word that I can't pronounce or spell since I do eat seafood. So far I am reasonably healthy for my age (judging from the posts of some folks here my age and younger) but I'll probably have a pint of Moose Tracks ice cream for lunch since I hate to cook and lazy. But may have natural peanut butter straight from the jar later- protein and fiber included.

My diet is pretty much dairy, carbs and fruit. I try to eat more vegetables when I'm on a health kick but have to be careful not to overdo the potassium. If I'm trying to manage my weight, I do better with portion control.

Pes-ka-tarian 😀 I don't eat nutrasweet or any fully artificial sweeteners, although I get that all of our sweeteners are so processed it probably doesnt matter. I don't drink soda, but I do drink wine. I have fruit and vegetables with every meal. I don't deep fry anything.

Most of my food contains one ingredient, i.e. blueberries, cucumbers, oats, etc. you get the picture. But do I also eat pizza, ice cream, and chips? Sure do, SOMETIMES. I also only eat beef ( no poultry, fish, etc), but maybe I have it once a month if that. My bloodwork is always great, and I'm about 5 lbs heavier than when I was in high school, now at soon to be 59.

I agree with you artificial sweetners are worse than processed sugar and others. I was so impressed by your post and so very tired, that I set down my Sipp soda slightly off on the coaster and it proceeded to its mostly full self on the floor.
Really hope it was just my soul, willing to sacrifice a better than average small soda, to get me doing my pre bed things instead of getting sucked in *now* into one of my fave topics to talk about. I really need to start writing gourmet and health food soda companies and seeing if I can get them to reduce the citric acid content to only what is needed. Late. Back at work in just a tick over 8 hours.

You can make your own soda - pretty easy. Just take a flavored simple syrup and add it to club soda (or get a soda stream, but make your own flavoring.) A basic simple syrup is taking a cup of water and a cup of sugar and wisk it at a low boil until all the sugar is dissolved. When I make a flavored fruit syrup I mash up fruit (like berries or a peach) and cover with water and simmer it for 5 - 8 minutes. Let it cool in the pan and strain it. Put it back in the pan and add some sugar (the amount of sugar you need varies by how sweet the fruit is, and by how sweet you want it. You could also use honey or stevia) and simmer until the sugar is fully absorbed. Add it to club soda, and you have delicious soda. I usually do multiple flavors, so, in my peach syrup, I throw a piece of basil in while it is cooling, and I usually add lime. You can experiment until you find the flavors you want. Cocktail websites are a good place to get ideas for flavor combinations. Just exclude the booze (or not.) So very easy. You can keep the syrup in the fridge for a while, so you can make enough syrup to get you through many days. You maybe need a tablespoon to make a soda.

It's easier to say what I don't eat than what I do eat. I don't eat scalloped tomatoes or tomato aspic. I eat few tomato sauces - a little too acidic for me, I guess. I don't eat highly spiced foods - if it burns, I don't eat it. No carbonated beverages - I prefer water. No coffee. Very little tea. Not many salads unless it's a fruit salad or egg salad (love eggs!). I eat more seafood and cheeses than beef, pork, or fowl. Pastas of all kinds, all vegetables (except tomato, unless it's one slice on a sandwich), and I'm a sucker for puddings, pies, cookies, ice cream, and doughnuts. I don't drink any sort of alcoholic beverages and use real butter, whole milk, no artificial sweeteners.
Fortunately, I don't have to watch my weight. I'm more likely to need to gain weight than to lose it and maintain normal cholesterol levels. Pretty lucky in that respect.

We went today to a meat market here that everyone raves about in amish country. It was about an hour and a half drive through farm country and I mean fields and fields of corn and beans on a twisty turny state road.
We bought a variety of beef, pork, and chicken, enough for a few weeks. Told hubs if its all as good as the meat was tonight we will be stocking up about every 3 months there. It's a small town and the place was packed. I cooked ground beef tonight and it was to die for. Tasted like the meat we used to get when we bought half a beef way back when. It was good fresh meat. We could see them cutting meats back there.
And they had a huge variety of luncheon meats and cheese of every kind, ever heard of mushroom cheese or yogurt cheese? The prices for most of it was less then the local store except for the steaks they were as high or higher. I didn't get steak this time, want to try the other cuts first.
This will add to my locally raised and nutritious foods. I made my first batch of stewed tomatoes for this year. I was out of those and down to just some juice and a can of tomatoes. My new canner is awesome, did 9 quarts and 5 pints of stewed tomatoes in it and 5 quarts in my smaller canner. It will process 14 quarts at once or 19 pints in one canning. It's raining some so we are hoping I get tons more of tomatoes. I hope to can at least 30 quarts and pints of stewed tomatoes, 30 of juice, 30 or more of spaghetti sauce. We use lots and lots of tomato products.

Got 12 quarts of spaghetti sauce made today, I do not like the stuff you buy with all the additives.

I don't eat red meat, but eat poultry and fish. Lots of seafood. Lots of vegetables and fruit. I cook like the French, with lots of butter and cream, but I keep my servings small. I love to cook and am always trying new recipes. I'm not too big on sweets....will usually pass on cake, doughnuts, crème brûlée, etc. I don't like chocolate.
