as nice as that sounds to me. I wonder if it is such a good idea? my opinion is of exotic cars. such as Ferrari , Lamborghini, sometimes Mercedes; are not made to withstand the harsh realities of daily driving in any state. Here in NJ with snow, or Arizona heat. but with that said. if they can withstand the daily commute to work. the repair cost is absolutely stupid! I'm sure! LOL
there is this guy at work that drives his Porsche; his 911 Porsche; his Porsche 911 Carrear S! coupe of course, black! looks like a 2013 to 2015 model. it might be is only car. but he drives it to work everyday. I enjoy seeing it.

Nope, not me. One of my coworkers years ago had a beautiful car that someone "keyed" in a shopping mall parking lot when she was on her lunch break.

If I could afford it then I would be driving it and certainly be able to afford the repairs and upkeep!! I don't see the problem

In the frozen north tundra of snow, salted streets and slop, the fancy car people drive a beater during the bad weather.
I have a cute Honda CRZ that I drive all winter except when the snow to car clearance doesn't work in the snow. It wasn't expensive but has the sports car look and feel.
I won't tell you what hostilities I have gotten from the Land Rover and Subaru Outback crowd.
Sometimes I think everyone is out get that car even in the garage.
Is that a woman who drives the Porsche?

Some day I will get the '57 T-bird I have dreamed of since I was a teenager. When I do, it won't be a daily driver.

Porsches are not Ferrari or Lamborghini. You can get new 911s for 100k or even 150k. We bought a 58k Honda, so 100k isn't a totally different world. Ferraris cost $300k. I just don't consider Porsches in the same class as those real specialty cars. Not that they aren't expensive and definitely a luxury vehicle. But there are "expensive" cars and then there are "EXPENSIVE" cars. Ya know?

I just want a dam BMW! the maintenance is so expensive in NJ! $100 for an Oil Change! F-ing Stupid! Oil change costs are based on several factors. How much oil, type and grade of oil, how easy it is to change, and cost of tech per hour. Mine takes 6 quarts of high performance oil. A Honda Civic takes 4 qts of less expensive oil.
You might want to check other oil change prices like Infiniti and Audi. They are in that ballpark, or higher last time I checked. You can always choose to change your own oil.

I just want a dam BMW! the maintenance is so expensive in NJ! $100 for an Oil Change! F-ing Stupid! I drive a GMC Sierra crew cab, long bed, work truck series and my oil change costs me $87 and that because my neighbor who’s a mechanic does it. I’m pretty sure that at a different shop would cost more so $100 for an oil change in a BMW is not a stretch by any means. Mercedes or BMW are not anymore exotic cars so either could be used as a daily driver.

zaire, as opt probably knows too, the key with a BMW or Porsche is finding an honest independent shop. it won't be cheap, but will be way cheaper than the stealership My experience is that the independent shop is not way cheaper. The savings is pretty much from not doing all the things the dealer will want you to fix. In fact, some of the BMW dealers were cheaper on oil changes if you were a member of the BMW car club and used dealership coupons. My independent shop touted better oil than the dealer so that piece was more expensive. I found shopping various dealers and independents that generally the price savings was in the 1 to 5% range.
One nice thing about my independent shop is they are so busy that they don't spend time looking for more things to fix after doing what I bring the car in for. The BMW dealers always say an oil change can be done in less than an hour, but I never had that happen. They always spend time farting around with your vehicle looking for additional things that need fixing so an hour and a half was the shortest time I ever spent for an oil change at the dealer. This also risks that the mechanic gets lazy and doesn't put things back as well as they were when you came in, so I never returned to an independent shop who did a similar thing and made me late to a second part of a job interview.

mine takes 15 quarts of synthetic. ouch. i'll be DIY for $60 worth of oil and a $15 filter. the local landfill has a free oil recycling center, so it's pretty easy Thanks for the education. I never really thought about the amount of oil in the big work trucks. This is what I found in Google circa 2016-
Oil Change Estimate for Ford F-150. Ford F-150 Oil Change costs $86 on average. Following is a breakdown of the labor and parts estimates. YourMechanic Price. $82 to $103. Labor: $53 -$68. Parts: $30 -$36. Average Dealer price. $132 to 144. Average Shop price. $102 to 110.

I am used to practical cars as a daily driver. the expensive cars maintenance wise is too expensive for my budget. which leads me to think. it's just an oil change. does not have to be so expensive? it is the same synthetic oil I out inn my Honda. the other annoying part of an exotic or expensive car is. they are not built to withstand daily driving!

Yes I probably should have searched on a 350, ... nevertheless, apparently big trucks lots of oil.

They make snow tires for Porsches. Heck one car mag outfitted a few years ago and drove them in Alaska during winter.

you see a lot in California. for three reasons 1. plenty of folks have money 2. it's a car culture so it's not weird to care about your car. In seattle, being fussy about your car and, you know, cleaning your Subaru, are seen as kinda weird 3. the weather is favorable (no salt on the roads, many days with no rain so it stays fairly clean, no hail) nothing that was mentioned as "exotic" sounds all that rare to me. Sometines I do a double take and go like what the h*ck kind of car is that, but other than that... Of course we don't have the icy tundra (no salt on the roads) or the Death Valley type of weather around here. Humidity is low as well, so you rarely see any car that is rusty. And yes many, but not all, people have plenty of money.
I could probably afford a Mercedes but it wil be ♫ a cold day in hell ♫ before I spend that kind of money on a car To each their own is my (cheapskate/frugal) philosophy

I can understand that NastyWoman it took a few years to get on board with the price of an exotic car. I mean the commercials of showing a car drifting on public streets, city blocks. advertising how quick and responsive a car can handle speeding. it's just stupid, because it is all illegal. so what is the point of paying all this money. when the performance is not practical? and yet, with that said I still want my six series convertible BMW!
