Last year a theater had a deal where you could see all the Best Picture nominees back to back for one admission price, so my wife and I went. Inglorious Bastards sucked, and no way should Hurt Locker have taken Best Picture.

I finally saw Black Swan about a month ago.
I didn't find it nearly as thrilling as most of the reviewers did, especially because I could call the ending about 35 minutes early. And while Natalie Portman's performance was ok it wasn't Oscar winning in my opinion.

IMO most critically acclaimed films are not all that good. Every now and then there is one I agree with but for the most part I know if the critics like it then it is probably boring as hell.

One movie I loved that a lot of people can't make it through (especially guys, it seems) "The English Patient." I adore that movie. But a lot of people seem to think it's a snooze fest.

LOL. DH was forced to watch it on a plane ride. I said, "What's not exciting? War. Explosions. Escape from a train. Thumbs being cut off. Plane crash. Sand storms. Secret sex." He just rolled his eyes at me.

We loved the English Patient! Scream? Not so much. We couldn't take 15 minutes of that movie and just returned it. We rarely agree with most critics.

Watched "Young Adult" last night which was another snooze fest... I haven't seen many good movies lately.

Pretty much all action movies. Face Off was a game changer for me. Before that, I was kinda neither here nor there - but that one was so frickin' stupid. 90 solid minutes of two armies of people shooting at each other - and everyone was dead, and the 2 people they were actually shooting at didn't duck, or hide or anything - just stood in the middle and there wasn't so much as a dirt splatter on them. I also like how the boat blew up when it went into the water - because, you know what makes a boat blow up? Yes, when you put it in water.
I hated Sideways. I'm just not into middle-aged angst. I found all the characters to be whiny and totally unappealing. Why was everyone so thrilled about those people. Plus - the movie made it impossible to order a Chardonnay without being laughed at. F***cker.
I hated Lost in Translation - same deal - middle aged angst. Whatever.
I hated the Notebook. So boring. So predictable.
As good as it gets - try again. Let's see if we can get better.
And of course, Lord of the Rings. Although I can't tell you if I really liked it or not, because I couldn't stay awake for more than 5 minutes and the movie was 900 hours long. So, I never really watched it.

I just watched "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"—the American version. I haven't read any of the books. Maybe somebody can fill me in on what might compel an intelligent human being to rate that movie any higher than a zero-out-of-ten. It was still better than "Black Swan", which retains the dubious honour of "Worst Movie Ever Made" per Virgil. The tattoo girl was slightly less of a psychotic wreck, and at least she wasn't useless. That's something.

*lol* What got me about that movie was how painfully useless Frodo was. They could have cut the movie down to 30 minutes if Sam had shoved him in a rum barrel, rolled him to the top of the mountain and threw him in. ETA:No. Never had the misfortune. But if it's truly worse than "Black Swan", they should load the production team one by one into a Howitzer and fire them into outer space. Oh. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". Beat that for 900 hours long and indescribably boring.

That's something. I read the books and thought they were just "okay." I didn't see what the big deal was about them. I have read much better. I guess it was just because the author died before they were released which in someone's world makes them outstanding. I actually thought they did a decent job with the movie though. One of the few movies I have seen in the past few months that I actually liked.

I read a book called "One Day" that had 800 reviews on Amazon, with 700 of them being 4 or 5 stars. It was also made into a movie. It was a terrible book, but I was pot committed. I considered tossing it, but kept reading in hopes that the book would end with the main characters dying together because they passed out drunk and their cigerettes caught the building on fire. Alas, that was not the ending. I recently noticed that the average rating for the movie on Netflix was less than 2 stars. I'm shocked - really - with source material that made me want to stab myself, I have no idea how the movie could be hated by so many.

Oh God, this was one of the WORST movies ever! A co-worker I had a couple of years ago actually owned this movie and brought to me so I could watch it. She kept telling me how great it was. What in the hell was great about this movie. It was so BORING! I couldn't get through it. I finally turned it off. When I returned it to her I told her I wasn't impressed and then she kept saying but the cinematography was so good. Really - who gives a crap. I was like - yeah, I just want to be entertained. This was not entertaining.

Maybe they should have just skipped the whole plot and we could have watched an hour long infomercial for the Japanese tourism board.
Have some karma.

I've never before seen a crime procedural that took two and a half hours to reveal the significance of a single blurry photograph. And if every last character in that movie had suddenly dropped dead for no reason, it would've been ten times more watchable.

I didn't even want to see Titanic in 2D. The longer I live, the more I'm okay with never having seen that movie. And I was really okay with it the first time around.

I hated Avatar but The English Patient had pretty costumes. I did take a short nap in the middle of it.
I liked everything about Titanic except Leonardo Di Caprio. He's odd looking and not at all sexually appealing. I've liked all three movies that I've seen that were based on the sinking of the Titanic. The best one starred Barbara Stanwyk and Clifton Webb.
I don't like most fantasy films, the Harry Potter series or any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Actually, I didn't care for most of the films that have been named on this thread althugh I have sat through a lot of them if I had paid to see them. The only two movies that I've ever walked out on were Reds (Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton) and The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke. The first was too boring and the second was too every thing bad.

Someone please tell me why the hell we would need to see Titanic in 3D... what a stupid idea! LOL - glad I still have not seen this movie! I don't get why the industry would bring back a movie into theaters? It's already made enough money! Oh guess that answers my question...

In case anyone's interested in even more "Titanic", there's a mini-series being aired on television. It premieres this Saturday (April 14th) at 9:00 pm on ABC.

Avatar was basically Fern Gully on steroids. It got annoying after awhile and the cliches of the "evil" people trying to destroy the forest, yada yada.
I am tired of the same old plots. How many times can you watch the hero save the world from Nuclear devastation? It gets old? And, how many Disney movies can you stand of cute animated characters burping and farting? Nah.

LOL! WOW ToughTimes when you put it that way! Probably because the Titanic itself was eye-candy. This ship was one of the most beautiful ever launched with some of the most powerful men and women who ever lived, and they all couldn't get a seat in a lifeboat. There is something very fascinating there. Even when I was very young, I was moved by the story of Mr. & Ms. Strauss, the couple who went to their deaths together because he would not take the place of a woman or a child and she would not desert the man she loved. Powerful stuff.

I don't understand why they have to put naked or semi-naked people in horror films. What does that have to do with being scared? Just play some spooky music and make the scene dark and slowly pan the camera where the ...........GOTCHA!!! people are vulnerable, guard is down

The matrix was horrible. I have tried watching it several times. Star Trek and Star Wars are also movies that are pure torture to be subjected too.
Recently rented Young Adult. Those were minutes of my life completely wasted.
I did like Titanic once. No way can I repeat watch. The break up reminds me way to much of fighting with my ex. It was like watching our lives on camera.
