Do the old measures still apply? I've stopped trading entirely because it seems to me the entire thing is manipulated by a few who pull the strings. Am I wrong?

If you believe it is true and watched it happen, why then, did you not take advantage of it.

I didn't get the memo. And I don't like swimming with sharks.

Seems harmless enough. He's probably got a great endorsement deal with Crest.

Yes, Marsha, there is a Santa Claus.
Sorry, couldn't resist! Yes, there are still people here who INSIST that markets are manipulated and the 'little guy' simply can't make money by investing in the equities and/or fixed income and/or commodity (even though commodity ownership is, inherently, an equity ownership, though some seem to think it's 'different') markets.
You either believe it, or not. One thing is absolutely, positively, unequivocally true.
There will always be a Market Talk poster who will fully agree with any opinion anyone may care to suggest.

Hi verrip. Long time no see. Hard to believe I started on the MSN boards discussing the markets. Trying to remember the name of that woman who did a newsletter and was one of the contestants in the market contest. Some of you guys used to give her a hard time. I made quite a bit of money following her and still hold some of her recommends. Now I listen to my father-in-law and call it good. No shake, rattle and roll for me in this brave new world.

I think trading takes a certain amount of chutzpah, whether we are talking about today or 1, 5, 10 or 50 years ago. I can't imagine trading, but kudos to those that do and make a bundle (hahaha) doing it.

Hey, Arch. I guess it's a foolhardy thing to do. Used to seem easy. Requires total immersion. Like surfing you get the feel of things after while. But I do feel like the naturalness totally went out of the action. Can't read the signs if market movements aren't occurring according to natural laws.

Natural laws? The things that occur in response to
Greed. Need. Feed. Heed. Deed. Creed. Bleed. Screed.
You know, life. The things that make the world go around.
That which arises from the hubbub.
The hubbub is being controlled now, no naturalness in the buying and selling or anything else.
Heck, we've got elected representatives telling us unemployment in good for the economy.
Pretty soon they'll be telling us purple koolaid laced with rat poison makes grandma feel better. Control.

Could it be a raise in M1 as the Stores deposit all those sales into their checking accounts. Also the Credit cards will increase money as credit becomes cash in the checking account.. m1 was up 20.5 % (month over month for 3 months). Overnight bank to bank rate decline from 0.2% to 0.19%.. OK it is a decline and they have been lending to each other for more then a year..
With a 7 billion dollar Outright coupon purchase( clears on 29th) there will a lot of money for the stock and bond market to fight over.
Just a thought, Bi Metal Au Pt

I should have added Gold/monetary markets.. Some one is buying gold again and it could be South Korea. Defending against China.

About a week before the stock market missile launched in early march 2009 O made two comments:
1) stocks are a good long term buy and 2) the stock market is 'kind of a poll on how we are doing economically'.
Coincidence?

Wow, good memory, Marsha. Not many folks remember me due to my usual low post count. Are you talking about Mary Rowland? I remember how ol' ClevelandRocks used to fawn over her. lolol. I don't think I ever gave her a hard time. I was pretty much a beginner at all this stuff when she was there, so I wasn't in a position to disagree with anything anybody said. As to shake, rattle and roll, I constantly have to govern myself not to be as risky as I've learned how to be. Having a 50:50 eq/fixed allocation does not mean that a person is not incurring high risk.
