[snip] Using some of the bonus check mentioned Monday, I splurged on two decorative tissue box covers and a liquid soap pump I'd been eyeing since last year. Except for 3 Christmas themed throw pillows @ $5 each, I haven't bought anything for the house since last spring. Free shipping over $50. Last night: Iggy: Did you see the tissue holder? DH: Oh, is that one from downstairs? Sigh..... He did say it's pretty cool, though. He should like it, since it's from Cabela's.

I received a rebate check from my natural gas provider for having my furnace serviced. Too bad I can only apply for the $50 every other year.

I used to have our gas furnace cleaned this one doesn't need anything but the filters changed a few times a year. I suppose I could have the furnace guy come and check it out.
Our furnaces at rent houses are all new within the last 5 years except for the post office one and the mobile. It's electric and hubs said they rarely go bad.
I spent $50 yesterday for 2 tshirts, one for DD, one for me, they are cute.
And a curtain rod $28.
Tomorrow DD and I are heading to the city to top off on food stuffs we might need. We are supposed to get 6 to 7 inches of snow this weekend, never know for sure. I have enough of most everything but getting extra eggs and milk, fresh veggies and fruits. Might even get some fresh catfish, been awhile and I like them, fix those and home made fries for dinner and make some cole slaw. Might bake a lemon meringue pie for hubs and DD too. They will like that.

I have not been anywhere for 2 days and have not spent anything online, YES!
However on Friday I went to the grocer again and Sam's, I stocked up on water softener salts, 4 bags and one of ice melt.
I'm afraid over all with antacids, it was $23 alone, throat lozenges, and items like that I spent $197. I had allocated $400 for the month for groceries so far and spent it, never done that before to try and stick with a budget. I have enough staples to last a long time. Fresh items I will have to add. Don't know how it will turn out, should be interesting. I bought 10 pounds of potatoes, bananas, milk, eggs, celery, cole slaw, cabbage, carrots, big bags of this stuff, bell peppers, onions, pork steak, ground pork, shredded cheese, just lots of stuff.
I bought ice cream 2 containers of Blue Belle, something is wrong with one. It is awful, hubs thinks it has thawed and refrozen, I thinks its some stuff they put in containers in error. At $6.99 I'm taking it back this week. That should be weird but they are welcome to taste it, yuck. The other container is good like normal.
I didn't realize that we had to cancel hubs other insurance, it was automatic for the drug coverage so we got billed for his supplement this month and will get billed for the new. They said would take about a month to get the money back. Out immediately but a month to get back, crazy.
I too cut cable except for basic, this month should get our new modified bill, will see what it costs. We dropped our landline but picked up fiberoptic cable so that changed too. Had $25 a month installation fee for 3 months. It had gotten for the 3 almost $200 a month, this month would have been $250. And our light bill went up again to $330. Insurance raised. I am trying to cut basic costs and spending.
I cook at home mostly but we go out sometimes too, but not that often anymore. And we don't think about it but also going to start ordering water, $3 a soda glass is crazy.

I just added up what I've spent for the month.
Food $629, but its stuff for the month, so ok.
Allowance to me $100, I have $40 left
Sweater and 2 t shirts I bought $76
Curtain rod $28
Gas , all I have put in my truck this month $30 Hubs gas $74 Insurance premiums $445 after deducts made by SS Ink charge $11 Prescriptions $175 Books $20 My Mastercard bill, need to break it down. $108 don't remember, its amazon, need to check accout Another $300 on it was for gas from December trip to New York
$1996 Total so far
Electric bill $332 Cable $130 next month $110 after that $65 a month Dish TV $39 Water $90
Hubs gas $74? Me $30?
Misc groceries $200? Furnace check $100? Allowance $100
More to be spent $1096
So about $3000 total
The killer was $2500 4th federal estimated tax, I am also trying to put back monthly for insurance and taxes due in May, if my rough calculations are right we may get $2 to $3k back if I'm understanding the forms per LLC stuff correctly, not counting on it, till done
doing the same from property account for those taxes, saving for May to pay, can pay p tax half then and half in Oct but would rather not
I am doing well this month, I think.

Yeah, those are personal only too. I'm actually way down from what I normally spend, we never really pay attention, but I'm going to have too, way to much going out. Not much fat in that.

Looks like someone tried to use our credit card again, dang. Bank of America, cut my account off and gave me a list of items to check. There were 4 in a row hitting from PP, I hadn't tried them that I know of or hubs either. There was one amazon I couldn't match up. Checked hubs amazon, not his either. Guess I should call tomorrow, its $14.03. I try to really watch it. That is the problem we run into buying so much stuff online. They had to send us a new credit card in October. I bet I've had 20 new ones issued over the last few years.

Lately: ~Brought up the container of Folgers and bottled waters from the guest room to use them up ~Made homemade pasta sauce from last season's cherry tomatoes ~Made homemade orange mulled wine from mulling spices gifted to me at Christmas ~Instead of smoking new cuts of meat, DH and I ate leftover backstrap and loin from the freezer over the weekend ~Saved .20/gal at the pump using my grocers value card ~Been covering stress eating by sneaking sweets I froze after Christmas instead of throwing them out. ~Saved 33% at the store yesterday using coupons and shopping the sales. Highlights: -BOGO OM hot dogs and deli lunch meat -Deeply discounted cheeses -A $20 off if you spend $200 coupon -Got TP basically BOGO because it was on sale, and I had an ecoupon ~Cans of crab are $19.99. So, I compromised and bought a smaller container for our homemade sushi this weekend. Now, off to meet the HVAC guy about our CO leak....

Yes, I wanted crabmeat for my sushi but was $20 for 8 ounces I think it was, I bought the phony stuff instead.
I need to order filters for my furnace, I have one left and with hubs sawing and working in the basement likely will need replaced shortly.
You have to order them in a set of 4, they are 20 X 25 X 6 and $115. But I want to keep them on hand, those will last at least a year.

Today I returned 62 pop cans for $6.20. I also deposited a container of change at $82.83. So today's total going to the "new house fund" is almost $90!
I've been eating out of the pantry quite a bit, trying new recipes to use up some stuff. Made some hummus and roasted chickpeas/garbanzo beans with two cans of those, made a red bean masala with ingredients and spices from the pantry.
Ordered some concentrated Mrs. Meyers cleaner on amazon instead of from in town (the price difference was big enough to be worth it, and the local hardware store where I would have bought it already gets plenty of my money!)
I was looking online for "real" mirin for my son-- everything I've seen in town and the next decent sized town over was "fake" with sugar added. While looking, I found out that a little neighboring town has a "co-op" type online store. They combine locally grown goods (fruit and vegetables in the summer, meat whenever) with natural foods/home goods. They don't have a physical store, just a warehouse, and they deliver to my town once a month (it all gets put in a box and you pick it up at a drop point, where the whole process is about 10 minutes). So, instead of paying $17+ for a bottle of mirin online, I was able to pay $10 for the same size, and buy a bunch of seeds (hot peppers to try to grow at home, and other stuff, like tomatoes, to give to my mom for her garden). I also got some skin care products for a good deal--I've been trying to take better care of my skin, and my old moisturizer was starting to make my face break out.

Increased my contribution to my 401K plan over the weekend.
Went to the eye doctor for checkup and new glasses. Used my AARP discount on the glasses.

I've spent a little more than usual due to both GDs having birthdays. I also spent $12.95 for a continuing education lass online. Other than that, it's been planned expenses.

I filled hubs truck up with $1.89 a gallon gas, wow! While I was in the city got his truck washed, did the underbody wash. I spent $30 for both of them this week, we try to wash them every couple of weeks in the winter to keep the salt from rusting them. I just bought fill in the nitch fresh veggies today, it is expensive trying to eat healthy.
Got mangoes, avocadoes, 4 loaves of bread, tortillas, the 3 little pies, tomatoes, 1 can refried beans, 3 half gallons of milk, large container of cottage cheese, cucumbers, 2 packages of fajita seasoning, lettuce, rice noodles, and a package of kielbasa. This stuff was $80, holy smokes, I'm now up to $750 for groceries for the month so far. Always buying veggies and fruit we use a lot. I never really keep track, can't believe it.

I went to the eye dr. yesterday afternoon and discovered that my appointment had been canceled. They said they tried to call, and I actually believe them. DH has some trouble with the phone.
Anyway, one of the things I wanted to talk with the doctor about was changing to a less expensive eye drop. That is, one covered by my insurance. We just started this one a couple of months ago. I think a lot about stuff like this since I am retiring.
So I asked for another sample to get me by until we could talk. They gave me one so saved me over $100.

Yes, I don't take Linzess all the time, if I do I'm going to be in the donut hole about May or June. With the new insurance I have its looking like I pay 40% out of pocket till I reach $5100. That is going to kill me. Until I get the printout from January I don't know what the "retail" part is.
My out of pocket went up $60 a month so far. I dread it.
Those that have medicare and Medicaid are golden, costs them nothing out of pocket. Well I say that but they are very low income so not good.

DH's credit card got hacked so I was looking through old charges to try to help him figure out what might be automated and needs to be switched to the new card.
I noticed he purchased a Prime Video of The Longest Day on January 5, the same day that he asked me to make the dvd purchase for him because he couldn't figure out how to do it. It was totally accidental. He doesn't know how to stream.
Amazon usually only refunds digital stuff within 48 hours, but they made an exception. Then the representative helped me put a PIN on it to prevent accidental purchases. With 9 grandchildren, that's probably a good idea for a lot of reasons.
Anyway, I saved him $16.19. It was not a cheap purchase. I bought the dvd for $9.99 including shipping.

Our credit card got it again, did in October. So they are sending a new one. I can't find my Sears one so need to cancel it too. I just have a Pennys and can't use it elsewhere. I have to resign on to my Lowes card as locked myself out. Hubs has a mastercard we rarely use. The one mastercard is the one we use all the time and some debit cards. We are signing up for a Menards card as hubs buys more supplies from those places then anywhere, and will make it easier for me to keep track..

Odd, checked Amazon this am, and Turbo Tax is cheaper than any place I've seen where we live. Ordered it. Used Christmas gift card, so I guess free.

I always buy my tax software from Amazon. They usually do a one-day discounted price right before Christmas when it's about 40% off.
Right now they have the H&R Block Deluxe plus State for 49% off, $22.99.

Amazon is where I get my tax software, too. I use Turbo Tax. I now have the last item I need to cross check to make sure my spreadsheet numbers were accurate.
However, two forms are not yet approved for filing. The date was pushed back to January 31 yesterday on the forms. It had been January 24.

I wanted to stop for breakfast after my race today. Grabbed two free bagels from the runners' snack table instead to eat on the drive home. Dinner tonight uses cubed ham on sale (a BOGO buy at Publix) and peas that were also a BOGO buy. I have a crockpot of ham and potato soup cooking that is also using some of that ham.

I dug out my receipt for the oranges that molded within 4 days and got a refund while I was at Walmart. I wasn't making a special trip but I had to get some other stuff today.
I got a free bagel from Panera this morning.
I found a $25 gift certificate that we will use towards dinner tonight.
Tomorrow is the monthly birthday celebration at work and I baked the treats instead of buying stuff.
I used a coupon code on photo prints I picked up at Walgreens today.

I got a Litter Genie for Lucy's cat box. I like it a lot but was totally shocked at the cost of the replacement cartridges. Checking on Amazon today, I found an off brand with good reviews for about 1/3 of the price of the brand name replacement cartridges.

This is my birthday month so I get lots of "special" offers. I was out shopping so I had a free "nibbler" from Zaxby's as a snack. I had a soft drink with me in the car. It certainly wasn't lunch, but it was enough to get me by until I got home to eat something there for "free." I picked up a couple of things at Michael's now that Christmas is 80% off. My husband always gives each of the kids' families a bottle of wine. So I got wine "boxes" for 80 cents each. We started a tabletop tree last year so I got a few additional ornaments for it for $1 for each box of 4. I wasn't going for quantity but something I really like. It's big enough that I still have to get the step stool out to decorate it so it needed a few more. I had a 40% off regular price item so I got a stencil for a painting project once I retire. I am trying to accumulate the supplies for that with coupons so that I will be ready. CVS had sent me $2 ECBs so I bought two boxes of tissues for 76 cents. They are the boutique boxes, which is what my bathroom holder requires. Oh, and I got gas at Costco for $1.79 a gallon. And I stayed out of the store! That's probably the biggest "small" thing I did today to save money!

I went to Barnes & Nobel and spent 2 hours having coffee with a friend. Also stopped at Batteries Plus for a big flat CR2450. Battery blind isn't working right so bought it a new battery (didn't help) . Coffee friend is on her way over to climb up on the countertop , I've put 8 AA batteries in the wand, so with her help I just may get this thing fixed...if not, I'm done with it. $700 for nothing if it doesn't.

I used $5 worth of Walgreen's reward to pay towards the extra-strength back & body aspirin I bought. We have no pain relievers in our house except baby aspirin. I had to take a handful of those this morning, but they did work.

I've discovered a small "farmer's market" near me. More like a fruit & vegetable stand, actually. But the woman who runs it offers a lot of different items, at a cheaper price than any of the grocery stores around here, so it's a win for me. And, everything she sells looks to be very clean and "fresh off the vine".

I went to buy 10 20 gallon containers at Walmart, marked down to $3.50 each. Have used quite a few so far.
While there was going to go to Subway and get a seafood salad, got to thinking, why, with all the food I have at home,
so I came home and fixed it. I even have some of the fake crabmeat they use. I need to mix some up so I can make
a sandwich or top the salad with it at home.
I'm still in shock I spent a 1/4 of our monthly income for food!! We are sure eating good, way to good, apparently.
I told hubs we need to reduce the pasta in our diet, he and DD love it, going to be hard.

~Avoided buying Valentine's candy and a doughnut at Wally World this AM. And on Tuesday. ~Found a $12 fraudulent charge on my bank statement yesterday, which the bank will reverse ~Using up leftovers for lunches ~Storing the conditioner and make up bottles upside down to get every last drop out of them ~Broke out food vs HBA and household products on this year's spreadsheet. The results have been eye opening thus far. ~Stopped late night snacking resulting in minus 5 pounds so far, and a reduced food budget ~Cut down on alcohol, see above. ~Continuing to eat from the pantry and freezer.
