DOW futures are looking good. Hopefully we start 2018 off with a good positive day trading wise.
Not sure how January will work out for the markets..........many people might want to take huge profits gained last year, under our new tax laws, but not sure where they would put the profits to work.
Only change I may be making, is trimming my utility I hold, and buy more oil stocks. Utilities usually take a big hit on rising interest rates, and oil look like it might hold onto these gains. At $60 a barrel they are all printing money.

I am planning to keep my normal asset allocation and just keep investing on schedule. I am just in index funds and one bond fund, not in individual stocks, since I don't trust myself to pick the winners. I am hopeful that the market will continue to go up this year, hopefully the tax cut will provide some kind of short term stimulus.

+1.9% today!
ftr, i was +30% last year and 80% the prior year, but still.....very good start!
edit: it is tough to make money off OIL SANDS at $60/bbl, but possible. so production might drop there, or they might just take a loss and wait for the price to come up (more).

CA:OSF.UN That is a great one one day gain! Was it in gold stocks or uranium stocks? Are you referencing fracking "regular oil" instead of "oil sands"? Oil sand oils trades a lot lower than than regular oil.

Ford new car sales for December were up instead of the expected negative sales number. GM reported sales down less than 3% from an expected 5% negative sales number. GM reported the average sale price of over $36,000.
More good news for our economy and American workers.

Interesting trading day so far. DOW futures were negative at the opening, and market dropped about 100 points in the first hour or so, and has recovered to about even for the day. No real news to explain why.

Why I set my goal as how much I contribute to my accounts and not how much my net worth increases, I can’t control it and you get years like this or worse.

That would be less than a 4% move but the trend seems to be down. Lower highs are being followed by lower lows. The close was below the 200-day SMA. There isn't an extreme oversold condition. My guess is NO but it only a guess. If I had a nickel for every time I was wrong, I wouldn't need to be in the stock market. I would have a fortune in pocket change. Regardless of where the market goes, everyone have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Seems the traders are concerned of a European and China economic slowdown now and hurting our maufacturing exports. If the Fed continues raising interest rates, this affects them as much as us here in the states.
