Stayed in plan. There's a possibility that today will end with some sort of fast food dinner, but I'm hoping I'll be home before I'm hungry, and will just go with left overs instead. I start with the quarterly Breakfast with the Dean at 8:30a this morning, and then I'm pretty much booked solid until I'm on the bus home from court this afternoon, hopefully sometime before 4p.

Court was exactly what was expected on Wednesday. The most stressful part of it was being the second case on the docket and sitting through the first case, where I once again noticed the stark difference between the way biological parents are treated in the system and the way we have been treated. And so I decided I needed "bad for me" food. I called my BFF and she and I went out to Red Robin. I had a free burger on my Royalty card, and she had already eaten dinner, so I just paid for shakes and tip. But it was really good to have a chance to go out with her, just the two of us (I adore her wife, but this was really nice), and each kvetch. Yesterday, I decided to take a sick day and just hang out with my dogs all day. Which was also pretty darn wonderful.

shanendoah -- Take care of yourself. Remember one day at a time. I did fairly well this week. Most days I managed to stay close to home and spent my time trying to get things done here. Did not make it to exercise except once but did get quite a bit of painting on patio chairs done. Still have a little bit to do outside. Trying to get things done early in the mornings as the temperatures have been in the 90s most of this week. Will be spending some soon as the handyman will be back this week hopefully to get a few more things done on the list of mostly minor repairs that I cannot do myself. On the whole I have things pretty much under control. Adjusting to a lower monthly budget has been a challenge. I still have a little of my last check squirreled away and have been giving myself a little spending money from it but I know that I will have to start relying less on that as that total decreases monthly.

Thanks everyone for your concern. I'm doing pretty well. C is being released a week from tomorrow, which will pretty much mark the end of the worst 2 years of our lives. It will still be another 10 years before it's "over", with another step down in stress coming in 3 years. But really, a week away from the worst being over.

Dinner & Porco Rosso (Studio Ghibli) with friends tonight. Family counseling tomorrow night. The rest of the week is really dedicated to working on the house and getting it ready for pictures/open house. I have people who are able to come help on Saturday and again on Monday. Kind of hoping I can have it ready for pictures on Tuesday.

Last week I bought the bottom shelf vodka in order to rein in my entertainment spending. I've got $50 to last me 3.5 weeks. Can she do it ladies and gentlemen? Bills are paid, fuel tank is full. We'll see.

Things are a little tight this month. Have $ put aside for the last two bills coming in but making a constant effort to stay in as much as possible. That way I won't be tempted to buy things I don't really need at the moment. I try to put a little aside each month for those months that the utility bills run a little higher than normal. Unfortunately I think I will have to tap that sinking fund this month. Will still have a little left in it but not as much as I want. Summer is coming and the electric bill is always a little higher then. Of course having 97 degree weather in May is a little extreme and that is what we have been experiencing this last week of so.

So yeah, spending plan for the week completely out the window. The spending is necessary, as far as I am concerned, just unplanned. Flying down to spend a couple days with my father in the wake of my step mother's passing. I wish I had more time. I wish my brother had more time. We'll cover 3 whole days there between the two of us, but we will both be there on one, which I think is important. He arrives late Wed and leaves Sat. I arrive late Thurs and leave Sun.

Proud of myself yesterday. Have you seen the little meme on facebook that is "being an adult is having the we have food at home conversation with yourself"? I had that conversation with myself yesterday and was even successful. I rarely eat dinner before family counseling because I have anxiety about it and my tummy does not want food. But then when it's over, I crave greasy food, and there's a McDonalds there on the right side of the road on the way home... But last night, I did not stop. I just went home. Today is about the last day for the next 2.5 weeks where I really have an idea of what spending might look like. Tomorrow I fly to my father's. I am there through Sunday morning, and then I fly home. Monday is about packing/decluttering, but also getting C's stuff to the house he's going to live at, taking the dogs over to see how they get along with the dogs there, etc. Tuesday is picking C up. And then for the next 2 weeks, it will depend on what he feels like cooking or going out to eat, etc. So next week, my plan may simply be to track.

That is a conversation I need to have with myself more shanendoah. We are replacing the AC and furnace and zoning the house to the tune of $10k.
Of course a poorly functioning AC making my house 80+ inside makes eating out somewhere with AC very attractive.
Safe travels.

Thanks everyone. I shall travel safely, but beware that I may not be on the boards at all, and not even on FB very much over the next few weeks.
TheOtherMe - C is being released on Tuesday next. He is not coming home because our house was not approved for him to live in. Proximity to too many schools (these are conditions we knew we'd have to deal with when he chose to take a plea). He will be living with friends until we can buy a new house. I had hoped to be further along in the process by now, but I had to slow it down earlier this year because it was all too much for me to handle. I'd planned for this weekend to be a major declutter & clean weekend in the hopes of pictures next week, but now I have to be in New Mexico. But I am off all next week, and he should be able to come be at the house with other people there, so he'll come help me with stuff, and hopefully we'll have it on the market the 2nd weekend in June.

I managed not to spend yesterday. Today, I'll definitely be buying dinner, and probably some snacks/caffeine for my drive across NM.

I always think it's so odd that some things seem to go on forever, nothing moves. And then suddenly several major events happen, and you find yourself having to deal with everything at the same time.
ETA: I don't mean you personally, I mean "one".

shanendoah -- So sorry to read about your lost. Managed to stay pretty focused this week. Got several things done around the house but did meet several friends for brunch one day and got a few needed items while I was out. On the whole I am getting things accomplished at home. Some of these were things I just didn't have time to do while I was working and slowly since I retired I am making progress on knocking things off my list.

We'll see. Updated already. Just bought a grad gift. I didn't make it. I pulled a $50 bill from my stash yesterday because I forgot to budget for plants for our garden this week. I purchased them last night and while there, I picked up a few food items for camping. I'm going to need to pull more $$ out for fuel, because I have an unexpected trip to the big city for a funeral, and a dentist visit on a separate day. Which reminds me, I'll call the dentist to see if my crown will be in by then in order to take care of both the same day. ETA: Nope. Ah, well. Better than using credit, I suppose!

This week was spent as much as possible getting things done. I did hear from the guy who will be doing some repairs and he will not be back until the end of this month so that gives me time to add a little more to the repair savings and to his repair list.
Except for meeting a friend for dinner one night all other expenses were expected. Grocery, hair appointment and lawn care. May monthly bills were all paid and have about a week before the June ones begin arriving. I do need to fill up the car tomorrow -- not plan on leaving the house today and will stop on the way home from church to get gas.
This is the month of several doctor appointments plus I have a craft retreat also. Definitely know I will be spending at the retreat and have saved for it. Hope that the appointments are mainly routine and will not require any testing other than the usual annual ones. Also hope that I can go another year without a change in RX for my glasses. Guess I will find out soon.
Now if I can just stay out of the craft and dollar stores. I can usually find something of value in them that I just need.

My life seems to have turned upside down these past few weeks. Finally have the house decorated to my thrilled satisfaction only to turn around and have to deal with water damage from a intense storm a few weeks ago. Hiring attorney (long story) home inspector to find out how bad the damage is to the "fake" dormer on the roof, then hire a painter to caulk the dormer windows that were never caulked when the house was built 4.5 years ago and to paint over the water stain in the entryway ceiling......and Wednesday the Safeco/Liberty Mutual insurance adjuster will be here to check out the dormer damage.
Dr. appointment tomorrow and ATT will be here Thursday morning to find out why my internet access just freezes up. I just want my boring life back and the ability to say NO to pointless spending.

Since the last post I did put gas in the car and had the eye appointment. No major change in my vision so I do not have to get new glasses this year. He does want me to start wearing my contacts more this year. We will see how that goes.

Had to run to Home Depot yesterday to replace my shower rod. Older one had issues and after trying to fix it decided that to be safe to just replace it. Also had an unexpected lunch out with friends this week. I have a pedicure appointment but only have to spend for the tip as I have a GC that I will use for it. I will be doing so spending later this week as I will be at a craft conference and will need to get some supplies plus hotel and some meals. Airfare and conference fees were paid earlier. Have money put away for the other expenses as I have been planning this for a year.

I am back! I know you missed me. Time to get back on track in all sorts of ways. Tomorrow is Pop Tart's 8th Grade Graduation, so I need to pick up a card and small gift for her today. I am going to try and schedule a cleaning company to come out early next week, which means I have to get my act together and get the house decluttered this week and over the weekend. I also need to get the wall and ceiling of the bathroom that had the water damage repainted. But if I can get everything decluttered, and the house cleaned, I can have the real estate agent come take pictures and, with any luck, have my house on the market the weekend of June 23-24.

Graduation gift bought. But no gas yesterday because I don't need it yet. Will almost certainly need to get it later in the week. No Starbucks this morning because I left my phone (my phone case is also my wallet) at home.

OMG. I feel like I'm drowning in expenses! Without going into too much detail, let's just say I told DH about 30 minutes ago I am closed (ie my checkbook, we keep things separate). The will preparation fee, escrow shortage invoice, advertising for the agency.... I'm going to tighten up things so much, ima going to start hearing pennies squeak from rubbing together in my penguin bank.

I was doing well on the uncontrolled spending until I made reservations for a trip to London. I don't want to go and the trip has been cancelled. Hotel has been refunded and I made about $15 on the exchange rate. However, I have almost $500 in airline credit that I don't know if I will use or not.
So stupid tax for me again.
