As of November 13 for each of the presdients in their first year, which does not include thanksgiving at Mar-a-lago, the score is Obama 24 times versus trump 35 times. Obama pretty much played local while trump has to be flown on Air Force One to his "Summer White House' in New Jersey and his 'Winter White House' Florida.

It's nice..ok. 

However , when u consider how much the Trump empire is profiting from his role as POTUS...EXAMPLE..ELL LAGO alone doubled their initiation, yearly fees, dues, fees...not sure about his other resorts...am sure they also increased and not because of business costs...

Just the fees paid for the SS personnel to stay when protecting him and family..[golf carts alone are costing over $160,000 per year...that's his golf carts they are renting at full price..no breaks in price..] and gov't not getting any price break and can't refuse and stay some where else..they are captured folks..no choice...

Then we have the new Trump Hotel in Washington , DC...people staying there hoping to gain some influence and Trump himself making it his favorite go to  restaurant, tavern.....also don't believe he is getting special discounts for himself and friends when the dine...top 5 star prices...

So his giving his salary as donations...fine...am sure his accountants are getting receipts for charitable deductions..and in the end he is profiting very nicely by being POTUS..

I had assumed that there were laws that prevented a sitting president from profiting while in office.  Our current POTUS has either figured out how to skirt those laws, or is completely ignoring them.

When Obama was golfing, did he stay at expensive private resorts, require his SS men to pay full price to rent rooms there, and pocket the cash?

Obama used Camp David for retreats, which is owned by the federal government and much easier to protect than a private resort.

Trump apparently thinks Camp David doesn't have enough gold gilding, or maybe their chocolate cake sucks.

No one here is saying the opioid crisis is not a serious issue.

Everyone is saying Trump can easily afford to donate this small salary because he is benefiting personally in some many other ways that far exceed this measly $100,000.

Fixed it for you.  but the fact remains that he has used (and still is using ) the office to further enrich himself - at the expense of the taxpayers who are footing the bill

Why can't Trump stick to the typical Presidential retreat areas?  I just find it in VERY poor form/taste to essentially force the SS to pump money into a business you own because they have to stay there if you're there.  If you MUST be there, give them free rooms.  If you can't give them free rooms, stay where they CAN room for free. 

Giving $ to help the opioid  crisis is wonderful - it really is.  But I'd be happier if he wasn't doing other financially slimy things while holding office.

   Exactly!  We're already paying for his Secret Service protection, so why do we also have to pay for the Secret Service to spend nights on HIS properties.  They SHOULD get free rooms.

I would have preferred it if he sold off his business interests or put them in a blind trust like other presidents have done, in order to avoid any suggestion of influence.

He's the first president who declined to do either. In theory, he gave over control of his business to his sons. In theory. In fact, he's being sued by other Washington hotels because of the foreign business going exclusively to his hotel, in the hopes of currying favor with Trump.

And I would absolutely prefer he do his golfing someplace that didn't require him to travel via Airforce 1 almost every friggin weekend so far, or stay at resort properties that cost the SS a shit ton of money. Camp David has a golf course, FYI. Just not one with the Trump name plastered on it.
