Good for him. A worthy choice. Re-enforces the need to address the problem after his October announcement.

Imagine that-a multi-billionaire donating his quarterly salary of $100, 000.
I wonder if trump and family have been reduced to eating packaged ramen noodles for their meals in the White House.

And in the meantime, we pay for all of his golf outings (complete with security detail). I'd rather he just keep his paycheck, & pay for his own weekends.

Did you catch the story online of how much "we" paid for golf carts for the secret service last weekend? At those prices, we could just plain buy each man his own cart!

Now, now Tennesseer you have to be fair. His quarterly salary is $100k! Fortunately dt knows our tax laws really well so the aumount of ramen noodles he has to eat may be limited.

It is great to see how everyone thinks a donation is a joke on such a serious issue. Some people are just embarrassing themselves because they despise this President.

Make no mistake Value Buy, I believe the money is going to a truly worthy cause. Now if he would just turn over his tax returns like he promised to do last year, then we can see how generous he is when he is not as much in the public eye.

That is on the secret service. And they are not armour plated for bullet protection. Should buy their own carts. It would be cheaper. They can get some nice custom ones for under $17,000 each

Question. when Obama was golfing, did they not rent golf carts? As of November 13 for each of the presdients in their first year, which does not include thanksgiving at Mar-a-lago, the score is Obama 24 times versus trump 35 times. Obama pretty much played local while trump has to be flown on Air Force One to his "Summer White House' in New Jersey and his 'Winter White House' Florida. As for the $144,975 in golf cart rentals, you wrote: "That is on the secret service." Where do you think that money comes from for the Secret Service to renting golf carts? Here's a hint: It doesn't grow on trees. Additionally, the Secret Service would not be spending that kind of money if trump wasn't playing golf so much. So who is costing taxpayers more: trump or Obama.

It's nice..ok. However , when u consider how much the Trump empire is profiting from his role as POTUS...EXAMPLE..ELL LAGO alone doubled their initiation, yearly fees, dues, fees...not sure about his other resorts...am sure they also increased and not because of business costs... Just the fees paid for the SS personnel to stay when protecting him and family..[golf carts alone are costing over $160,000 per year...that's his golf carts they are renting at full price..no breaks in price..] and gov't not getting any price break and can't refuse and stay some where else..they are captured folks..no choice... Then we have the new Trump Hotel in Washington , DC...people staying there hoping to gain some influence and Trump himself making it his favorite go to restaurant, tavern.....also don't believe he is getting special discounts for himself and friends when the dine...top 5 star prices... So his giving his salary as donations...fine...am sure his accountants are getting receipts for charitable deductions..and in the end he is profiting very nicely by being POTUS..

I had assumed that there were laws that prevented a sitting president from profiting while in office. Our current POTUS has either figured out how to skirt those laws, or is completely ignoring them.

I'd be happy if he let the SS stay at his resorts and at Trump Tower for free. Instead they pay what every other guest or renter has to pay. Exponentially more than $100,000 and all that money going right into Trump's pocket.

Question. when Obama was golfing, did they not rent golf carts? When Obama was golfing, did he stay at expensive private resorts, require his SS men to pay full price to rent rooms there, and pocket the cash?
Obama used Camp David for retreats, which is owned by the federal government and much easier to protect than a private resort.
Trump apparently thinks Camp David doesn't have enough gold gilding, or maybe their chocolate cake sucks.

It is great to see how everyone thinks a donation is a joke on such a serious issue. Some people are just embarrassing themselves because they despise this President. No one here is saying the opioid crisis is not a serious issue.
Everyone is saying Trump can easily afford to donate this small salary because he is benefiting personally in some many other ways that far exceed this measly $100,000.
Now, if he gave them 1% of the profit from his Washington Hotel, which is doing a bang up job to foreign politicians and lobbyists...

Our current POTUS has either figured out how to skirt those laws, or is completely ignoring them. umm, he has made a significant sacrifice to his brand and the money that represents by being in office. being president has cost him billions of dollars and you think he's "making it up" on some cart rentals. wow. did you charter a jet to "save" on dishwashing soap 500 miles away? same thing. " being president has cost him billions of dollars"...yes a few of his investments are not doing so well...supposedly golf resort in Scot Land...but it was not doing well before he became President...same as a few others...part of the business he is in...market rates in NYC have fallen...not just for him but all similar venues..others too...and Billions because of his Presidency...? Come on already "allways"...links please....and just regarding his presidency...not market general fluctuations...they happen all the time.

stay with me. 1. if he is in control of the Trump private organization, then yes, he could choose to do that. there was tons of screaming that he had to relinquish control of his businesses if he has relinquished control, he has no ability to give free nights at hotels. which do you want? I own stock in GE, it turns out, i can't go into their building in NYC and use the conference rooms for free because i own a few shares of stock Own say 25 % of outstanding shares...bet if called up ahead of time...explained meeting room problem..bet they would accommodate, even bet CEO of GE would know who u were and invite u to dinner in a five star restaurant too after your meeting.

Fixed it for you. but the fact remains that he has used (and still is using ) the office to further enrich himself - at the expense of the taxpayers who are footing the bill

Why can't Trump stick to the typical Presidential retreat areas? I just find it in VERY poor form/taste to essentially force the SS to pump money into a business you own because they have to stay there if you're there. If you MUST be there, give them free rooms. If you can't give them free rooms, stay where they CAN room for free.
Giving $ to help the opioid crisis is wonderful - it really is. But I'd be happier if he wasn't doing other financially slimy things while holding office.

We're already paying for his Secret Service protection, so why do we also have to pay for the Secret Service to spend nights on HIS properties. They SHOULD get free rooms.

A) Thanks for the donation. I am happy that he is keeping one of his promises.
B) I'm sure $100k will fix the Opiod problem. Just as it clearly fixed our education system.

He's the first president who declined to do either. In theory, he gave over control of his business to his sons. In theory. In fact, he's being sued by other Washington hotels because of the foreign business going exclusively to his hotel, in the hopes of currying favor with Trump.
And I would absolutely prefer he do his golfing someplace that didn't require him to travel via Airforce 1 almost every friggin weekend so far, or stay at resort properties that cost the SS a shit ton of money. Camp David has a golf course, FYI. Just not one with the Trump name plastered on it.
