ymam.proboards.com/thread/54319/cancer-when-tell-family-updateSEE ABOVE Banging my head. GP wants me to be on FLMA for the next two years and then short term disability. In the mean time speaking with Hospice. Gastro wants me on FMLA as needed, blood tests and a bone scan. Have a check up at the end of December to see if I should apply for a transplant screening. It is so frustrating.

Ok, where does that put you? Do you have disability insurance? Do you have savings you can tap into-We do have retirement savings-if it were us, with me sick, the health ins would be a problem. If DH-huge problem, I would have to try to run his business without him. I am sorry you are struggling with this.

The question here is: How do you feel on a daily basis? Do you feel well enough to work? Does it take too much out of you? Would you be able to work part-time, perhaps, if work is too wearing on you?
For some people, working takes the edge off the frustration of waiting. For others, working is just too much with which to deal. Of course, monetary needs always play a part, so you've got to weigh several things against one another. Talk to your kids about this, as well as to your internist and your therapist. Bring in all your resources to help you deal with these decisions. It's very difficult to deal with all of this and your illness at the same time. The more minds, and hearts, working on the issue the easier it's going to be.
We're all here for you, too, but we can't be there to see you, give you a hug when you need one, and be sure you're not trying to take on too much.

I want to thank everyone for the kind words, support and just for being here. It means so much. I love my GP, but will take the gastro's advice.

Hopefully the gastro's advice works out well for you, and you feel well enough to continue working as you need/want, throughout recovery.

Keep fighting! My refusal to give up has saved me many a time. Not my brains, but being stubborn. Don't give up.

You might have to reapply with your company after a year. I am retired now, so maybe that has changed on the time limit of coverage

sue - best of luck in this fight
My daycare provider's father was diagnosed with liver failure about two years ago, and he isn't eligible for a transplant because of a bad heart. He seems to be doing fairly well, though he has bad days sometimes when his ammonia levels get too high.

It is so frustrating. Sue-with FMLA, you would get a max of 12 weeks within a rolling twelve month period. You would then have to meet all the employee requirements for FMLA the following yesr including having worked at least 1,250 hours during the previous 12 months. If you have an HR department where you work, check with them regarding FMLA. And in addition, check about STD and see if there is a long term disability plan too. Good luck and get well!.

Sending good thoughts your way. I'd definitely go with the specialist opinion.

leaving one final post in this thread as I lock it. I'm seeing on Sue's FB page that friends and relatives are leaving condolences for her children. I'm trying to track down her obituary and see if there's a charity that perhaps we can donate in her name. RIP, Sue.
