Well, I heard yesterday that Geraldine Ferraro died. I voted for her and Mondale in the 84 election. Back then, I agreed with most of what she stood for, but today-not so much. But I still got a little choked up when I heard of her passing.
I used to watch her on Fox news. She was always dignified and respectful. You could tell that she probably had an 'old world' style upbringing. Rest in Peace.

She never lost an election in Queens, but when the national spotlight was on her... Her husband killed her. To be clear: Her husband killed her political career.

Although I did not vote for Mondale, I liked her as a candidate.

Reagan killed her political career. There was no way any Democrat was going to defeat Reagan. Especially not with Carter's memory barely four years earlier.
But I digress- Geraldine Ferraro was a pioneer. She paved the way for Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, Condi Rice, and other women who would seek the White House. I was saddened- and frankly shocked- when I heard about her death. I have seen her numerous times on Fox, she came across as very intelligent, and sharp witted in a way that you just don't see on the left anymore.
But I agree with her assessment of picking her for VP: “By choosing a woman to run, you send a powerful signal to all Americans: There are no doors we cannot unlock,” Mrs. Ferraro said in her acceptance speech at the 1984 Democratic convention. “We will place no limits on achievement. If we can do this, we can do anything.”
Rest In Peace, Geraldine Ferraro. All the best to her loved ones.
