My DIL is Russian, she hates putin and hates trump too. She said he is a putin wannabee.
She keeps asking me why Americans elected someone like that president, she thought we were smarter then that. Sigh, now she knows the truth I fear.
Some in her family don't approve of she and her sister, both wanted a better life, left and became American citizens and are very proud of it, also her niece even served in the military.
They will tell you how proud they are to be here.

I saw a figure yesterday that the Russian Facebook ads plus posts were viewed by 0.005% (maybe it was 0.0005%?) of all Facebook users.
It's still technically worth looking into, but the idea that it influenced the election outcome is comical.
If the Trump administration were a bit wiser, they'd admit the US was the aggressor in Syria, admit the US has been antagonizing Russia, Turkey, and their allies for decades, and embrace any Russian interference (real or perceived) as Russia's desperate attempt to keep Ms. Clinton--a staunch supporter and architect of the US's failed Middle Eastern policy since 9/11--out of the White House in favour of a wildcard who campaigned on withdrawing from Syria.
In other words: own the truth.
Of course, this became impossible after Pres. Trump about-faced on Syria.

Russian ads, now publicly released, show sophistication of influence campaignLawmakers on Wednesday released a trove of ads that Russian operatives bought on Facebook, providing the fullest picture yet of how foreign actors sought to promote Republican Donald Trump, denigrate Democrat Hillary Clinton and divide Americans over some of the nation's most sensitive social issues. The ads that emerged, a sampling of the 3,000 that Russians bought during the 2016 presidential campaign and its aftermath, demonstrated in words and images a striking ability to mimic American political discourse at its most fractious. The targeting information also showed a shrewd understanding of how best to use Facebook to find and influence voters most likely to respond to the pitches. The biggest impact, several independent researchers have said, was through ordinary free posts by Russian-backed Facebook groups. Those posts reached up to 126 million Americans, Facebook said, far more than the 10 million who saw the ads. An estimated 20 million people may have seen Russian-produced posts on Instagram. Complete article here: Russian ads, now publicly released, show sophistication of influence campaign

There is some evidence they were targeted to specific audiences.
Even if if they weren’t, are you using Global numbers? Because that is disingenuous.

Nope. Russian IPs aren't approved. Oh, then it must be the RNC who is signing the checks. Doesn't matter who signs the checks. Russian bots have Russian IPs.

They must have a way to disguise that. Re-route or something?

I don’t know... today in the Facebook questioning I saw them ask, basically. so, the payment in rubbles for a political add didn’t trip some alarm?

Because they're more than happy to lie by omission to make their advertising platform sound wonderful. Dig into the fine print and discover that "reached 126 million Americans" means the ads technically had the potential to be shown to 126 million American Facebook users, since that's the total size of their viewer base. But only an infinitesimal fraction of those 126 million users saw anything related to the Russian campaign.

I'm afraid we're going to have to treat your opinions as compromised from here on out. For all we know, your Russian handlers will utter a keyword somewhere down the line, triggering the conditioning imposed by the illicit ads, and we'll have Manchurian Thyme on our hands: promoting BLM, Bernie Sanders colouring books, Jesus vs. Hillary memes, and all manner of fractious material.
