I agree. One of my relatives used to have a purebred Boxer, and especially around the eyes he really looks like one. What a sweet face! My mom thinks he's half Pit because there are so many in and around Houston. He looks a lot more like that from this angle. Yes he does. So many pit mixes.

I think he might already be gone. There were 150 shares of the Facebook posts and tons of people saying they'd submitted an application. There are 7 in the litter though, so I doubt they're all gone. I have a couple strikes against me on the application though. My yard isn't fenced and we're gone for at least 9 hours a day (probably more like 10). I did say we have lots of retired neighbors around that would help out. I hate that they neutered them all already though, it's not good for large breeds to be done before they're done growing. The rescue up here doesn't recommend it before 6 months old, but the TX shelter wouldn't let them go without it being done.

Puppies tend to go really fast. Charlotte's puppies went like hot cakes. It's the older dogs that languish. I wanted to adopt an 11 year old lab so badly but we are gone working most of the day and she had issues that would require more care than we could provide. Plus we had just lost Midnight and didn't want to put DH thru that with another dog so close together. I hope she found a home with a lovely retired couple who spoiled her rotten for the rest of her life. I was surprised nobody was interested in Charlotte but apparently even three years old is "too old" for most people. There are a lot of pit bulls in our shelter too. You can't have them in city limits so I am pretty sure I can figure out why our shelter is full of them. If you know you can't have one where you live DON'T GET ONE. Don't get one then end up having it confiscated which results in it languishing in a shelter because nobody else can adopt it either. Morons.

They brought a crap ton of puppies up. Of the 50 dogs, I'd say 45 are puppies. I was thinking last night (while waiting for kids as usual) If we don't get him, maybe I should think about a more portable size dog? We're hardly ever home, but 90% of the time we're gone it's me sitting in the van or driving around town killing time waiting for kids to get done with whatever. I could totally have a buddy with me and we could go to the park or for walks while we're waiting. But maybe a small buddy would be better than a large one in this case? I just keep thinking big dog to guard the farm and keep the vermin away and I've always had big dogs (except for one Sheltie), but maybe some non-shedding terrier. That would be nice! Eddy that comes to visit me doesn't shed. That's a pretty cool trait I must say.

Mine were 9 and 10 years old when I adopted them. I'm not ready for another dog. But 3 is about the youngest I would consider.

I totally love the puppy phase though. I guess I'm weird that way, because so many people hate it. My biggest hangup is not being home during the day and having to line up help for letting them out.

My friends are picking up a black lab mix puppy tonight. I can't wait to snuggle her!! We have the game and tail gate on Saturday so we are bringing her. I got one of those octagon type kid gates from a co-worker today to enclose her safely.

I like puppies when I have the time and effort to put into them. We got Midnight as a puppy and she was adorable. Since I was in college I had plenty of time to work with her outside of classes. That's not the case now. I now have two children. I am currently trying to housebreak one of them, I don't need to add a puppy to the mix 3 years old is just enough that she's outgrown the stuff I don't have time to deal with but still plenty young enough to have a lot of the things I enjoy about having a younger dog.

There is too much chance of someone letting it loose accidentally; also too many people and excitement can be overwhelming for a dog.

They aren't going to leave it at home for 9-10 hours alone.

I suppose the shelters down there that are overflowing don't want to take any chances because obviously there's a lot of irresponsible going on down there with regards to pets, but it's a shame, 8 weeks old was too young.

My 30-pounder does just fine, and I'm actually embarrassed by the critters he has caught or killed. He doesn't even hear me when he spots something. Even in his old age, his inner puppy comes out when he sees a critter.

Nothing smaller than a chicken.

The rescue operation we got Cass from (she was 8 weeks) wanted a receipt from a vet for a prepaid spay. I had no issue with that. We spayed her at 5 months. Seems to me that requiring potential adopters to pay for a spay/neuter upfront for a young puppy is a pretty good policy. Since it is already paid for, when the time comes to have it done, there is no financial issue.

I'll never forget when he chased away a neighbor's German Shepherd that got too close to our fence. But yes, if you've got coyotes, you don't want too small of a dog.

After these dogs are gone, I likely wouldn't consider younger than 3 years old either. I'm done with puppies. Having two under a year old was a really bad idea on my part. But I love them both and they're not going anywhere.

The twins were spayed/neutered at 3 months. The shelter wouldn't let them come home until then. It's the law here that they have it done before letting them go home.

Got a call from the foster family today. They only have two puppies left and one is going today. She's going to email me later letting me know which one is left, but the one I posted is definitely gone. She said several people came to get him, but then ended up going home with a different pup after getting to know their personalities. The foster house is much farther away than the rescue office, so I'm not sure I want to travel that far or not. It would be over 3 hours one way. She also said she just got in a 2 year old lab that is just a sweetheart that she hasn't advertised yet. She's going to send me pics later. Again though, the 3 hour drive just to go check her out is a bit of a deterrent. She was part of the group that came up from Harvey. The woman that owned her ran a rescue and had 29 dogs. I'm a little confused on the story, because she was telling me about so many of the awful things they're trying to help out with up here, but she was either forced to evacuate and couldn't take them with or the place was condemned and she couldn't bring them back.

My brother drove 5 hours one way to bring Tonka home, 3 hours is a breeze. No issue with 3 hour drive to pick up a new family member. My biggest worry is we'd drive all that way, decide the dog wasn't really going to be a good fit, then took him/her anyhow just because we'd drove all that damn way! Plus my gut saying "no" would not be a match for the kids jumping up and down saying "YES, YES!" Usually they don't let you take them that day, but it sounds like this rescue might. I know our shelter requires you to visit in person and then there is a "cooling off" period while they run your application to avoid the impulse adoptions.

There was a flight with about 2 dozen Harvey puppy refugees that came into my local airport last week. Even I was tempted. Still, I don't need any more entanglements right now. It's hard enough getting out and doing anything fun for any length of time. If course, ymmv, especially when you don't have an 88 yo to look after.
