That happened with Harvey in Houston, also.
Take down the address and track down the perps then charge them with animal endangerment.

If that animal isn't part of the family, they don't deserve to have one.

It does suck that a vast majority of shelters don't take animals. And those that do fill up fast. You still don't chain or cage them giving them no hope.

I imagine the dogs were never considered pets in the first place. Their owners didn't have the gonads to surrender the animals or pay to have them euthanized long before this storm.

I also think it's selfish idiots not thinking beyond their noses. I've seen shelters talking about how the families will not get their surrendered pets back after the storm and will most likely be blocked from adopting from them in the future.
I can set why shelters do that, but it also may make idiots think they have to do what they did.

OMG. People like this piss me off so much. There were so many dogs that were left in CRATES in the house during Harvey. Some ended up drowning in there. They had no freaking chance! I really shouldn't, but I'm seriously considering adopting a Harvey dog. They brought 50 up to the shelter near here on Friday. I know it's hard to believe, but we don't get a lot of dogs in the shelters around here, cats by the gazillions, but dogs they often ship in from down south. I saw the picture of the van load of crated dogs and they all looked so shell shocked and sad.

Yeah I've heard that multiple times that they bring dogs from down south up to the north to be adopted. My DH's brother has a lab mix from Alabama. They brought him up to Maryland.

the chicago area is not a place dogs can run free and most are fixed. there are not a lot of mutt puppies around.
in southern Illinois, it is the exact opposite, and people frequently drop off a dog with a litter of puppies or an advanced pregnant dog to a shelter when they are "done" with them.
There are a few rescue groups that take those unwanted pups into the chicago area for adoption. That is where we got mr. puppy. Not sure what happened to him but he was really sad and depressed, for a few years. I've never seen a dog so sad for so long - we got him at about 8 weeks, so very confusing what impacted him so badly that he wasn't able to bounce back for so long.

More than 30 dogs that survived Hurricane Harvey headed for Toronto Local rescue organization is bringing the canines here from Houston in the hopes of adopting them out We took a lot of unadoptable dogs. And we had some locals surrender their dogs who unfortunately lost their homes in the floods. We are not stealing missing dogs." Simone said the dogs come from a range of breeds and the organization aimed to take dogs that had a lower chance of finding homes in Houston. Those include canines with special needs or that are older. About 30 per cent of the dogs have special needs. Group bringing 'unadoptable' dogs "We have everything from Great Danes, Dalmatians to chihuahuas, mixed-breed dogs, blue heelers. It's an eclectic amount of dogs. A lot of Labs," she said. "We really aimed to take the most unadoptable dogs. Just because Houston has such a huge dog overpopulation, a lot of the special needs dogs get left behind." One dog had both of its eyes removed, another is deaf and one has a neurological disorder. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/hurricane-harvey-dogs-toronto-rescue-1.4283318

Some of the dogs they brought up here I think were just separated from their owners. Their are schnauzers all clipped up nice. I don't know...maybe the rescue did that?

Local shelters throughout the country took animals that were already in Texas shelters. These animals were already homeless, and available for adoption. The Texas shelters then had room to take in displaced dogs and cats, which hopefully can be reclaimed by their owners.
Although, if someone left their animal chained or tied, I don't think they should be able to get the animal back.
In Florida before Irma hit, animal control offiers went searching for dogs that were left outside tied or chained, and took them to shelters. They plan on prosecuting the owners for endangering the lives of these pets.

Our dog came from a "breeder" from Virginia. She is the sweetest little thing, but she was terrorized when we got her. She had been bred twice, and no longer could be, due to a heart murmur. When we brought her home she wouldn't even step on or cross the tiles on the kitchen floor, for some reason. It was over a year before she would bark. Every once in a while she would let out a little muffled chortle, and then stifle herself. (she has since recovered from that, lol) Not a rescue due to weather, but I did get one of my house cats from a rescue group. Nicest, sweetest cat. She never assumed she could do whatever she wanted to do in the house. She seemed to always look to me for permission. But she never purred. It was about three years after I adopted her and it was on Christmas Day. She was napping at the foot of my bed top and I was getting dressed to go out for Christmas dinner. I reached out to pet her and she started purring. It was a nice Christmas gift.

Our Bad Boy Puppy is a rescue dog from "down South". The kids noticed him right away when we went to look at dogs. I was shocked to find out that such a young dog was originally on the "kill" list, which is why he was chosen to come up North. He wasn't the first dog I would've picked, but he was SO good with our kids, that he sold himself to our family. After he'd been here awhile, was when the mischief began, but it's how he treats our kids that warms our hearts.

That's what happened with Charlotte. Her previous owner used to abuse her, let her get knocked up and when he decided he didn't want a gun shy hunting dog he dumped her at the pound. She gave birth only a few days after she arrived. EVERYONE wanted the puppies, to the point where there was a ten page waiting list PER PUPPY. Nobody was interested in mommy Then I saw her picture online, she looks so much like Midnight it's like she was reincarnated. Charlotte is the perfect age for us, I have no desire to puppy train. DH visited alone first and then we brought the kids up that evening. We took her home the next morning. The shelter staff were very happy to see her find home.

She is the sweetest dog, and is good with our kids. She was only like 5 months when they brought her up, so I was surprised too. We got her a year later when I found out about a local rescue organization. She is a beautiful dog, it's hard to imagine not having her now.

Harpo was a rescue too. He is really a one person dog, adores TD and tolerates me. But the previous owner had a heart attack, and supposedly wound up disabled. His wife did not like taking care of both her husband, and the dog that only tolerated her. Not sure why she thought he was so much trouble, as he is most definitely not a high energy dog. A couple of short walks each day and he is good.
He is a beautiful dog, a pure bred German spitz. We have done some searching for who might have bred him, but there is no one local within a 1000 mile radius.

I am SO GLAD they moved this Harvey pup over to a foster on the other side of WI. If he would have stayed in near here I would have had a hard time resisting. Of course...it might still be fun to visit. He has 6 siblings too...what harm could come from that?

I'm sick of animal abusers getting a slap on the wrist. A bite to their backside seems more appropriate.

I've really considered getting her a bark collar so she would just shut up. I can't pull the trigger on it though. She fleas very timid and skinny when the shelter got her back. She's a fat bitch now. That didn't take long.

I immediately fell in love with Jackson. Macy was later returned and I felt sorry for her. She's so sweet though. I love her too, but Jackson is the golden child.
