Did you have to create accounts (usernames / sign on) for each site in order to do this, please? I already had logins for each, I live in a state that allows me to pull a free copy of my credit report each year. you need a login for each to do that. so I guess I don't know, sorry. That answers my question - thank you! I too can get a free credit report annually but I don't have accounts set up for each place already so I guess I'll need to do that.

The website is www.optoutprescreen.com You can do the five years on there. To do it permanently you start on there and have to send in a form. You can also call for the five year opt out, 888-567-8688 Apologies for no links, I'm on my phone as work blocks the boards. Thanks for the optoutprescreen link. Done.

Checked it out and not impacted...they probably had a filter on for the best credit scores and mine was trashed years ago after a horrible divorce and cancer treatment. Been pulling it up ever since, but hey, whatever at this point! I do check my scores every few weeks or so because it's rewarding to see it continue to climb, even if it's a few points at a time. Most likely going to freeze it though as I don't need any loans or new cards.

Yesterday Equifax announced that they would not charge a fee to freeze your credit report (valid until Nov). They also said they would refund the fee to those who froze their credit after the breach announcement, but did not say whether the refund would be automatic or not. I will contact Equifax tomorrow about refund as I did pay $10. I ordered one of my annual credit reports today. Site was too busy and timed out twice so I ended up doing it by phone.

We froze our Equifax accounts online (free) I paid $10 to freeze my Transunion. I paid $10 to freeze my Experian.
We have a family identity theft protection insurance policy through Zander, so we're covered if anything comes of this.

Couldn't get through to Equifax to see about the $10 charge but it has not settled to my credit card. Will try again tomorrow.

Equifax charge has disappeared from the credit card. Assuming that is how they are handling not charging anyone for freezing credit.

I may have been Equifaxed. Credit card fraud just emailed and called me to tell me someone today tried to use one of my credit cards numbers on8line to try and purchase something from Spotify USA for $9.99 and The Pampered Chef for $349.28. I'm not being charged for it and they are issuing a new credit card and number. What makes you think it is due to Equifax? Anything pointing to that? My credit card info has been stolen several times and none were related to this current Equifax fiasco. To be honest, I don't worry much about random credit card charges nearly as much as my personal info being stolen. Opening a new line of credit, for example.

I believe it is a year, and yes, it does look you have to remember to cancel it. Seems like the credit freeze is the way to go...I don't see how using their stupid monitoring service is worth it to me. CreditKarma is pretty good and free all the time. Every time I see their commercials I wonder if they will be the next to get hacked.

Figure they got to have a ton of your info on file too but could be wrong since I have no clue how they work but think they also monitor credit for customers so figure they have your info on file> If anyone use them please feel free to explain their services - no not planning on using them just curious what has to be provided to them.

What part of 'I may have been' did you not understand. I have no idea if I was or not. Just coincidental timing Just like my SUV would not start and required a call to AAA one hour after leaving Jiffy Lube and an oil change. Coincidence.

I'm considering coughing up the money for Zander identity theft protection. They will monitor everything, SS#'s and credit for everyone in the family for $145/year and if it's ever compromised, they won't just let me know, they'll clean up the mess and there is 1 million in insurance to cover stolen funds and out of pocket expenses if anything happens. Freezing credit would take care of the cards, but not the SS# and personal info.
