Is he in the hurricane area? Or at least in the possible flooding area? Guess I'll send him an email to see if he replies, but if anyone else has heard anything, please let us know. TY!

ArchietheDragon is online so I'm guessing he has power and is alive! It's funny how we (I) can form impressions about posters that might be totally wrong. I had always thought archie was in the mid-atlantic to New England area. ooops

I think she means architecto someone not Archie. The former lives in SE Texas and I think Archie is in CT. This thread is on the Investing board.

I got a reply to my email from Architect (Arch for short). He is alive & well but concerned about flooding since there is a river that runs through his town. He was going to look it over today and then determine if he needs to evacuate. I sure hope he has plenty of gas in his vehicle since it seems to be in short supply in many areas that have been impacted by Harvey. And from what I've been hearing, deliveries are questionable for a few days to a week.

People forget no power means pumps at service stations don't work. That was an issue during one of our hurricanes not to mention not being able to get to stations to deliver. I feel for people going thru everything now. It's just plain sad.

That was another big issu here. 300,000 people trying to navigate streets without working lights. But in time power companies from GA, FL, Tn, and as far away as Ohio came to our aid and probably some states I don't recall.

I spoke online with YDS who lives in a suburb outside of Houston. His area is rainy like all day long, but he does have a gas generator that fuels the entire house if they lose power. Son and DGS are both sick with a stomach virus, and schools are closed until mid week.

Parts of Houston have had 24.19" so far....they just announced it on TWC.
A gal on another board is sitting tight, she is paralyzed on one side and afraid to leave. She said she is in a condo, but didn't say on what floor. I sure hope she survives the mess. Her daughter lives about 3 mi. away & had water dripping in from the attic of her house. How would you evacuate 3.1 million people & have enough gas for all of them to go? Where would they go?

Thanks for the update Uncle! Good to know! Did he say how the river in his town was doing? I'm afraid it will flood a wide area when all that water from Houston & other areas north of him hits his town.

6:20pm (Sun.) 27 Aug. 2017 (S.E. Texas time......) Well, maybe this report will help to clarify some comments...... Kadee, Uncle, and I all post on the same Stock market contest ... and I've emailed both several hours ago with some comments.... but Harvey, this severe storm is the worse that this part of Texas has had in many years. And it ain't over yet ..... probably for 2,3, or perhaps 4 more days. From what we're hearing it's going to drop lots of water yet ... even though it's turned somewhat north, but will fill up rivers and lakes, possibly to serious overflow conditions, then the water will flow toward the gulf, and rivers will flood. Houston is flooded bad now; freeways closed, citizens and families moved into schools, etc. I live in a town (small one) about 60 miles SW of Houston .... lots and lots of rain, but I did not evacuate; and have not driven a car anywhere yet. We have not lost power or water yet .... but expecting to perhaps tonight or tomorrow, etc. We expect Wx. to get o.k. about Thursday. Look at national TV,., and Houston is going through major problems. At the present time, we're having no severe winds or rainfall. Rain is intermittent, however. Goes from very slight to extremely heavy.
And for clarification, I'm Architecto25 ..... an old grey headed man. Archie the dragon and I have had the same similar name for years. And if I retain power, I'll come on this board every now and then for additional comments. If I don't, then you'll know ...... NO POWER.

Best of luck to you Architecto25, hope your area stays out of the heavy stuff and things do not get worse. Houston seems like a major disaster area by the looks of the news reports. Sorry for all the suffering over there in Texas. In Florida, the worst hurricane months are under way until November. Hope we are lucky and avoid any direct or close hits in Mickey Mouse town.

Glad to hear what's happening Arch.
Sooo sorry about all the conditions. Going to take years & years to get things back to normal. Hope you don't lose power & hope you are prepared if you do....non-perishable food, water & some kind of lighting. You can always go catch some rain water to flush the toilets. I have rain barrels I use for that when we lose power since our well won't run then. Keeping everyone in that area in my thoughts & sending good energies/vibes that way too.
Haven't heard from my friend in San Antonio so don't know if she got to fly out today or not. I was expecting an email from her, so maybe they don't have power there.

11:30am. (Mon.) 28 Aug.2017 Kadee, I put a post (#6) over on our contest thread; should have been here.....will be from now on.... We prepared very well for these several days of rain, etc. Filled many water bottles, etc.; stocked up some food. We're probably about 20 blocks from an HEB... & for folks not living in Texas; HEB has over 300 stores in Texas.... a huge groc. chain. Not driving to see the courthouse square until it stops raining.....at least for awhile. Arch.

Diverdown, ..... Wow, it's good to hear from you again. Did you get your house all finished without major problems.? I just got on here again, to tell everyone, we've had solid heavy rainfall all day; and don't expect much let up for possibly a couple more days. Just got an email from TIME, and they showed some downtown photos of Houston .... and it's flooded very bad. Harvey may go down in history as bad as Katrina when it's all over.
And I got on here to take back a saying I've had since about 1966. When I left Minneapolis after 2.5 years there coordinating a large school building program; and flying C-119's on weekends., I've said many times, "I'll never complain about the weather ever again" ....... Well, I'm beginning to change that thought. Remember the movie "Airport", with George Kennedy.... All the big snow drifts.? That was filmed on Runway 29/11 at the Minneapolis airport ...., which was our regular one most of the time. BRRRRRR.
We have not gotten bad flood waters here just yet ...... but I think it's possible in a day or two when these Texas rivers start coming south towards the gulf.
Arch. & I seldom use a phone; my hearing very poor. .... must be old age...... LOL

Good to hear from you Arch....and DD, what a great thing to do! I'm watching the radar about every hour. There is now a system in the Atlantic that is trying to form into something along the N & S C. coasts. Not sure if it will make it into a TS or not.

7:30am (Tex.time) (Tue.) 29 Aug. 2017 We never lost power or water ( yet )... We're 60 miles W. of Houston. Evidently no rain last night. Water in low areas down a couple of feet. .... to our knowledge, no structures in our immediate area got flooded. Late yesterday, the city did put some large orange barrels ( to discourage traffic) at the end of street here in front. My large weather map:...... appears the green has moved east ..... into Louisianna, Alabama, & Georgia, and across parts of Florida. Friends living in those states probably won't have to water their grass next few days. News of river levels: I don't have yet. The Colorado River runs thru our downtown ( 1.5 blocks from the courthouse)... Should be able to drive today ...... down around the Courthouse, Years ago ( similar storm )..... lots of buildings (downtown square ) got sand-bagged. Arch.

One section of Harvey hit my area late this afternoon....BUT...it was either breaking apart or diminishing as it moved north so all we got was some light rain...as in mostly sprinkles. There is another section that is hitting Panama City, Fl. that seems to be headed our way, but don't know if it will hold together either or do the same as the first one. Lower Al. is catching a lot of it right now. At least for right now, Houston is out of it...but don't know if that one big piece will circle back or not. Haven't watched any weather reports tonight. My grandson is going to college in Va. and they got hit with what was evidently classified as a tropical storm. He is in cross country track & complained to me that he had to run in the rain....I told him he wouldn't melt!

11:40am (Wed.) 30 Aug. 2017 This is Arch. (SE Texas ). this will be last post for sometime....woke up today; water at curb height. Measured it at 9am. Gone up about 7 inches in last 2 hours. We're expecting to lose elect. very very soon... A citizen did some aerial photos of the city this morning. Major flooding. But according to those watching it; may be cresting. They say level now is 50.3; but cresting soon. The aerial photos shows water everywhere. Yesterday, I thought it was all over; I even re-installed a couple of hummingbird feeders.... City has barricaded the street to prevent traffic making waves. The mayor, a good friend of mine owns a huge feed store.... Adios until I get power back ....... expect to lose it very soon. Arch.

2:30pm (Fri.) 1 Sept. 2017 Mod, yes sir, it's started topping early today; Stayed at the same level all day yesterday. We received our electricity finally yesterday.... that was very nice.... Still not much traffic in this city. Yesterday, we had a large flat bottom boat (air boat) come down in front. Today a guy paddling in a kayak. Interesting. We're lucky...... this house was raised about 18 inches a few years ago. It's on a wood deck. and the water is still over a foot below the deck. But sidewalk and auto slab still has lots of water. Due to the size of all the flooded area, I think we'll not have all flood water gone for 2-3 more days... Large trucks with rescue guys come by very often ...... evidently checking the areas of all nearby cities.... and of course Houston. Harvey will go down in history as a terrible flood. I would guess we've gone down about 8 inches of water since early morning. A large truck with several rescue guys on it were National guard guys from Calif. See, we are getting mucho attention.......!!!! That was about an hour ago. Arch.

LOL Uncle...on flushing the toilets...are the sewer systems working?
If we are without power or when our well got hit by lightening, I use my rain barrels for flushing. That works pretty well.

(Wed.) 9:15pm (Tex.time) 6 Sep. 2017 Well, now we can seriously start worrying about flood waters in Florida. I think these comments now I'm making will be the last ones on Harvey. From me, that is. Our water is down, streets are dry, even some drainage ditches have dried up. But the serious effects of Harvey are very very prominent. Monday, a friend drove us around the city, and I was shocked about some areas. In a neighborhood that I'm very familiar with, on most of the streets it appeared that most of the homes had removed everything and made large piles of it all at the edges of the streets.... even preventing 2 way traffic, I would say at least 80% of the homes were stripped of everything (furniture, clothes, utensils, etc., etc.). Folks were wandering around, sitting out front in lawn chairs, probably going to shelters for the night. Even one of our neighbors had flood damage, and the house is a very nice, brick one, ..... but it got flooded. She had friends and relatives come over a couple of days ago, stripped drywall, all carpets, closets, furniture, cabinets, etc. The pile still outside, I would guess is probably 25 feet x 50 feet in size, and about 4 feet high of her "throw away items". I don't know when the city will come pick it all up. There was a very large TV in the stack. I haven't been out to view, but the word is that our large Walmart is closed and another large store across that street ( named Buccee's .... great for travelling folks, also got flooded and is closed.
