about you?
Example: On our family vacation last week, DS took along his laptop. We allowed him to log onto my Facebook page to play games, and it gave us a "greeting" from each major city we were visiting, as we drove from place to place. Also, I tend to shut off my telephone when driving, but while we were in Tennessee, we got an Amber alert for a missing child in the area. Does it bother you that technology is capable of keeping close tabs on you?

It could be corporate America, or the government, or whoever is aware of where you are, at all times. So, does being "tracked" make you uncomfortable?

It is a bit of a trade off between being able to use the conveniences and the privacy that we give up. I love using google maps for navigation, but I don't really like the google maps timeline that literally maps out every place I have been. They even have places like airport layovers, where I clearly didn't use any mapping software. However having the gps on the phone is worth the privacy trade off to me, even though I expect a lot more organizations than just google have all of my activities mapped out.

Does it bother you that technology is capable of keeping close tabs on you? You have the option to turn off the laptop location service in your computer settings. I have mine turned off. In addition, use a VPN while I am online. ETA: In addition, when I leave the house I turn off the WIFI on my phone and the location finder. This helps minimize tracking when I am out in public. In addition, I think it also helps save phone battery, as it is not constantly looking for wifi hot spot or GPS functions.

I'm leaning in to my glass house existance. Here I am, world! You know everything. Enjoy.
When the technology is available I will project my dreams on a YouTube channel. Then you will really know what is on my mind.

I have always kept my location setting turned off, for this reason, and to save on the battery.
I just switched from my old flip phone to a smart phone though and it's not nearly as private. Ugh.
Knowing 'they' can track me through every purchase I make doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy either. Part of living and being able to function in this day and age.
I get that it's a trade off. But that doesn't make me fond of it. I keep as many of the settings turned off, as possible.

I pay cash a lot more than I used to plus I turn off the location setting on my iPhone.

At my age I really don't give a sh##. They've been tracking me for so long. I hope they've enjoyed the journey. Heck you're being tracked here on YMAM. I googled my user name here and it came up with links to YMAM
Yes it has reached levels I only read about in books as a kid but it isn't going to slow down with time!
I had a pistol stolen in 89 or 90 and got it returned in 2011!! I had moved at least 5 times in that span and the DOJ found me. Filing tax returns and drawing SS probably gave me away

Ditto minus the pistol.

We were talking about this yesterday when we picked up the mail. One of the PNW supermarket chains has taken to sending out monthly coupons that are specific to your purchases based on using your rewards card.
DD#2 (age 15) was excited to see coupons in the mail. She opened them, and exclaimed "look! It's like they knew I needed more face wash!"
I chuckled because she didn't understand that the really do know that. DH muttered something about not everyone likes having that known.
We talked about the trade offs. She's decided she like it.

I make MrSroo register all the guns. I figure one of us needs plausible deniability and to stay off the lists Mine had made it from the Gulf Coast to Providence, RI

I figure they will be tracking me to the dark side of the moon one day. No way to go off grid unless I stole someone's identity and then they'll be tracking that person and I'll get caught and be wearing orange!

No, not at all. I like it on the computer because it helps me keep track of things I needed to do or wanted to do and where I was - since I can't remember shit these days. It also tells me when things I want to buy go on sale. I'm pretty sure when "Big Brother" does follow me they get good naps in I'm so boring.

It's honestly impossible for me to care less if Big Brother (or Big Corporations) know what I'm doing. I'm not doing anything illegal... so if they wanna waste their time or electronics, they can have at it.
ETA: fair warning to anybody watching me via surveillance... have eyebleach ready. I guarantee that you WILL need it.

LOL I don't do anything exciting, or illegal either. For me, it's more about what they can say I didn't do... If I choose not to have cancer screening, or choose not to take a medication due to the side effects having a negative impact on my quality of life etc. But I certainly don't live my life worrying about it.

Pffft...there's no hope for your insanity, so why would they still even call you? If Big Bro wants to watch me, he can go all Peeping Tom anytime. Nothing interesting to see here anyhoo.

Well, I do think my sanity came into play the one time I took one of their calls and let the person on the other end go on and on about the test I should have done. I think she listed about five or six. I let her drone on and one then I said "does that mean I have to get a doctor?" Dead silence on the other end. Maybe she was thinking this ole broad is crazy - she doesn't have a doctor

YES YES YES it bothers me.
though I do feel a bit hypocritical cause I know everything about everybody here.
I have 18 servers filled with spreadsheets and graphs with all y'alls info.
no need to worry. I haven't done anything with most of it. And really the worst thing I did was get Dual Citizen deported several years back.
