I suppose most of you just use your phone for all your appointments....but for us old fashioned ones I still use a day planner that sits on my desk. Not only works for my appointments, but notes of who I might have called, when to mail IRS quarterly payments etc.
My problem currently is that I have an 18 month planner that runs out at the end of December 2017....so I need a new one but torn between a 12 month or 18 month.
So, for you old fashioned ones like me, which ones do you use and why.

I use a spiral notebook. When open, the full month can be seen. I can get up to 3 years along with additional notes which are events like marriages, birth, travel. Books read, movies seen. Passings, and mail sent.
I would say one year for you but I have an issue with journals ending in an odd place.

I usually buy 18 months but also often more frequently than once a year, switching between regular and school. I like a long look forward time. I like monthly planners with extra notes sections.

I use a calendar w/ large blocks for the year but also put reminders in the cell phone. Do you carry the day planner with you if you need to make an appointment?

No, I don't, and that frequently causes me to reschedule appts. My planner sits on my desk. I could buy a smaller one, a company called 1canoe2 makes some really nice ones as does Day Spring. Each would fit in my handbag along with my iPad.

I get mine every year from the dollar store for one calendar year, or else I use a spiral notebook.

I'm thinking about going to Staples too and Walmart to see what they have. The one I have now cost me $42.

Yes check around, my dollar store calendar has more space in it than what I need, and you all know how many hospital appointments I have. With mine there's space in the front and plenty of space in back for bullet lists. Cheap works for me.

I like to buy them, use them for a few days when I'm feeling like I want to be organized, and then recycling them in January, virtually untouched.
I've learned that I can buy pretty nice ones at CVS that work just as well as the pricey ones I used to buy at Barnes and Noble.

I have a Barnes and Nobel Punctuate right now. Like 10$ maybe? I like Target too.

I use a small leather Filofax ("Pocket") that lives in my bag, so it goes wherever I do. I would find it very inconvenient to only have a planner at home because you can't add any appts you make when you're not home. The Filofax itself lasts for years, I buy a 12-month "refill" every year in November. You can also buy nifty extras like a map or notepaper or a matching mini-pen. I use my phone A LOT. But like you, I prefer to have a written planner.

Thanks everyone, ya'll have given me some good ideas. I admit that $42 for one is crazy and not SS. I'll lose my platinum YMAM card if I spend that much again.

My Filofax costs about that (maybe a bit more) but the Filofax itself lasts about 8-10 years. The refills cost about $10 a year.

Truthfully, I really like the monthly calendar app to record appointments because the phone is portable, and I am more likely to have the cell w/me than a larger planner. Also, I dislike having to carry a big purse when I am doing errands or going to appointments.

That is definitely something to consider ... but I always carry a fairly big purse anyway lol.

I don't think I'm linear enough to bullet journal. I know it seems counter intuitive. But I'd get lost in the creative bits and it wouldn't do what I need it to do, which is provide me with the structure and linear timeline organization.

I get what you are saying, because I'm the same way. BG, I have this one: www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Products/Create-Your-Own-Custom-Planner.htm?cmp_id=vanity-plannerHowever I got a new purse, and it's a tight fit. So I'm looking for slightly more compact options. It would be perfect if I could find a better small binder, as you can buy the calendar pages as you need them, add to it as you go, and take out what you don't need.

I love nice paper planners with really good paper because they work well with my fountain pens. But I've found it inconvenient to always lug a planner around. I've been planning digitally on my iPad Pro in GoodNotes. I like it because I can download free monthly calendar printables for my appointments. I can add other pages to use as a sort of bullet journal. I can add reference stuff like household measurements, grocery lists and other things. I use an Apple Pencil so I can hand write my appointments and notes on the iPad. And GoodNotes syncs across all of my devices so I always have my calendar, shopping list, reference materials, etc. with me. And if I need to add in something on the go when my iPad is at home I can just type it into GoodNotes. I miss a paper planner, but the ability to plan digitally, be able to hand write or type appointments and notes and always have everything easily accessible on my phone is much more functional for me.

You ladies have lost me on all your technical stuff. I used to use the black yearly calendar that I bought at WMT for $6-7. Now that I have this nice one, I like the pockets in front and back, gives me a place to keep stamps and perhaps letters I need to keep track of. I also tape by escrow budget inside the cover so I always know where that is. Something like that would fit in one of my handbags (I like semi big ones).
I think I'll stop at Staples or Office Depot and see what they have....problem is I want pretty and convenient.

I'm with Jaguar. I use a cheapie from the dollar store for myself. I have no life so not a lot goes into it. I just use it to put a sticker for every day that I don't drink. DH's appts. go on a freebie calendar hanging in the linen closet downstairs.

I get obsessed with planners every year. I look at probably 15-20 different ones and then for the past 4-5 yrs I keep coming back to Amy Knapp's Family Organizer.
There is about 99% chance I will be doing the same thing in a few weeks....

It's been a few years since I used one, but a company called Day Planner used to make customizable planners -- I think as small as 2x5.

Day Planner is the brand I used when I was working for my work calendar. Now I just buy a cheap one as I don't have all those appointments.

I bought a coloring book day planner, planaheadnow.com, and it is great. It has the whole month at a glance and then pages for the days of the week. I think I'm going to love it.

We used to give the kids at school planners, and I loved them. They had all the school dates premarked, etc. Now we give them chrome books. They don't work quite as well.

I bought one at Office Depot. Smaller ne that fits my desk better and also has pockets. It turquoise blue and made by Blue Sky. Cost me $20 but still half the price of the one I have now. Will fit in my handbags when necessary and my tote bag I take to work.

I use Google calendar on my phone for myself, but also a paper day planner, an 18-month one from Office Depot. I use it to plan out my competitions, vacation, and things like that. Since DH is not that technology-savvy, he can look at the paper calendar and see where I am.
