I never pass up the opportunity to pet a dog. Every dog I encounter gets petted (unless its human says it is not interested in making any new friends).
Neither do I! I make friends with every dog I meet. The pit owners say "Don't be scared, she's a good girl". Scared? I'm only scared that they will lick my lipstick off. Big, sloppy doggy kisses. I love pitties! I've never met one that wasn't a big, drooly, furry bundle of love.
My best furry buddy is a half Lab/half Pit who gives me a kiss on my cheek when she comes to see me and again when it is time to leave. She's a hoot.

I can drink several different kinds of adult beverages and avoid a headache the next morning.

I want to say of me - That I try to keep into practice a genuine show of compassion towards others. Because, I can be a real meanie at times. I also make it a habit to try and understand why a few people in my circles' misbehave the way they do, most- all- the- time.

I need better habits. Probably the only good ones I have relate to making it to work/working. The night before I get ready for the next day by setting out my clothes, set up the coffee/tea, pack my lunch if I think I'll want one, charge my phone, etc. so all I really have to do the next morning is get dressed, heat water in an electric kettle, and get the dog in/out for her morning potty and feed her. When I come home at night I always put my jacket, keys and bag in the same spot so I don't have to hunt for them.
At work I have various routines and checklists to review my own work so there's hopefully no stupid little mistakes when I submit stuff to the partner or client. I'm always a few minutes early to any appointments.
I think the takeaway is that I have great habits when it comes to work or things that would inconvenience others, but I'm not so great at maintaining habits that would solely benefit me or that would be considered self-care.

I got a few good habits; Moisturizing and cleaning my skin every day Sleeping 8 hours a night Paying my bills on time Going for a walk every day at lunchtime Not letting my cell phone dominate my life. It's an instrument at my service, nothing more. It's useful but my life doesn't revolve around it. I have plenty of bad habits also, but mentioning them here would be off-topic and I don't want to derail the thread

Almost every morning I post to a certain message board, I relieve stress by transferring it to some one else that deserves it.

Thanks to this thread, I flossed my teeth last night for the first time in an embarrassingly long time. For some reason, I got it in my head that brushing harder would kill 2 birds with one stone. It just damaged the enamel on my teeth. I was kinda hoping to find better routines for cleaning and organizing, but my dentist will be happy anyway! 😀

Well, I have tons of good financial habits. - I reconcile ALL my accounts (2 checking and several credit cards) every single morning.
- I pay off all credit cards monthly (usually several times a month).
- I track every transaction by entering it into an app on my phone when I make them, usually at the check out, but for sure in the van right after.
- I have put every raise for the past 12 years into my 401K
- I haven't financed anything beyond CC float and the mortgage for 15 years.
Now if I only had this much of a handle on health things or home maintenance/cleaning.

I don't cuss at anyone the first half hour after I get up. Mostly, because I live by myself though. Of course there is also the fact that I need coffee before I am willing to cuss, and I don't cuss all that often to begin with. But still, no cussing is good right...?

I'm punctual - virtually early to everything. My kids make fun of me "mom, how early are we? There is no one here."

I start, then I get busy/in a hurry/distracted, and it quickly goes by the wayside.

I started doing the lemon water thing a few weeks ago...man, it really does make a difference. Like I don't need coffee/tea anymore to help wake me up. I drink it all day too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
I work out 4-6 days a week, and almost always first thing in the morning. At least 2 of those workouts are either part or all yoga - essential for my lower back issues and to slow down my brain. Humans weren't meant to sit still for hours.
The rest are pretty bad habits.

Is that just a slice of lemon in a glass of water?

yup, that's all it is. The recommendation is warm lemon water first thing in the morning, before eating. I usually take my first drink after my morning workout, but this morning I drank it then worked out. It's supposed to kick-start your metabolism, among other things.

I'll have to try that. I do need to get my water consumption up and caffeine consumption down. My mom does that sometimes, or really weak tea with lots of lemon.

My useful good habits are mostly about linking things together into a routine. I brush my teeth twice a day, once while I'm waiting for the tub to fill in the morning, and just before bed after flossing.
While I'm waiting for the kettle to boil for breakfast, I put away the dishes and pots and pans. While waiting for my toast, I make my sandwich for lunch at work. Before I leave for work I prep dinner as much as possible: pull out meat to thaw, fill a stockpot with water (for pasta), or measure out rice + salt into a pot, etc. I've delegated salad making to the kids - that's now DS5's duty nightly.
At work I have certain days each week I've mentally designated for certain odd duties, like cleaning and updating the public computers on Wednesdays. I always check the building email prior to accessing my email, just to be sure someone I check it daily. I rundown a list of minor daily duties first thing, just to get them out of the way before I get sidetracked when we open for business (bookdrop, mail, newspapers, periodicals, delivery, cleaning/updates, calendar check). That first hour w/o people goes fast, so I need to hustle to fit it all in. I make a list of odd things I need to do that day, before I forget them in the bustle of patrons.
I swear my memory is like a sieve these days, if I don't write it down and keep looking at the list, I completely forget stuff I meant to do. I love crossing things off my list as I accomplish them, even if they are tiny little things. Working my way down the list, even out of order, means I'm making progress and getting stuff done! I hate spinning my wheels, so I'll tackle the small, quick and easy things first to get my momentum up. I'll also break bigger things up into logical divisions, since I'm frequently interrupted. Stepwise refinement works, too - start small and simple, then when it's usable add more features or other refinement. Don't do elaborate plans you'll never get all the way thru, get it working Q & D and upgrade a bit at a time. Ugh, can you tell I was extending the website yesterday? Got what I wanted accomplished (new music page and slider built) 10 minutes before closing time, despite last minute patrons.

Floss religiously every night. I think I have missed twice in 20 years. I was getting bad in this department and I finally got back in line. Every night without fail for the past 2 years. It took a long time for it to be routine, which surprised me. I've flossed of course for decades, and many periods of every night that would go on for weeks or months. So- surprising it took over a year for it to not feel like "work".

now I'm wondering what good habits I have, and I'm not getting any. I do a lot of good and useful and necessary things all the time, but I can't come up with any habits, aside from my flossing coup - but I was upstaged by a 20 year veteran. I have been thinking about habits though quite a lot - since wrastling with the flossing thing and finally winning out. I wasn't brought up with habits - not even before bed brushing! I tried to bring my kids up with them, but I think I may have failed... I do wear an underwire 24-7, and am very perky. I guess that's all I got for habits....

I can't imagine doing sit-ups in bed, but to each his own.
