Of course not. There are people who practice breatharianism or sungazing who do seem to live quite normal lives. So how do they survive? In the first instance, anyone claiming to live on light and/or air alone is most certainly lying. In 1983, most of the leadership of the movement in California resigned when Wiley Brooks, a notable proponent of breatharianism, was caught sneaking into a hotel and ordering a chicken pie (or buying Twinkies according to another story).[4] Under controlled conditions where people are actually watched to see if they can do it without sneaking some real food, they fail. The second possible answer to "how do they survive" is that "they don't". Most of the time whenever breatharianism hits the news, it isn't because one of the leaders and proponents have been caught cheating, but because one of the followers has died of extreme malnutrition[5][6] — stories sufficient to be nominated for a Darwin Award.[7] rationalwiki.org/wiki/Breatharianism

Maybe the food part can be real... The liquid part, not so much. These folks must have something with them that they can through longer periods of time without drink. I find this practitioner to be interesting...Wiley Brooks. He's down with air and McDonald's www.vice.com/en_us/article/breatharian-leader-wiley-brooks-lives-on-light-air-and-quarter-poundersIf adults want to do this for religious reasons, more power to them. The kids...that's what bother's me more. But, I'm not keen on parents denying kids medically necessary things based on religion. We had a case a few years back in our state where a girl with untreated juvenile diabetes had been showing systems for dehydration for a week. Rather than seeking medical treatment, the parents sought prayer. The girl died. The parents were charged and the charges stuck (all the way through our Supreme Court), even though my state does have allow religious defenses for felony crimes against kids. I do find it more amusing that we, as a public, are OK with this sort of parenting, yet, you are considered negligent if you let a kid go to the park 2 blocks away by themselves or with a few friends at an appropriate age/maturity level. Or, if you teach a child how to use public transportation and then let them use it by themselves before the age of 15.

If this worked, we would solve the world's hunger problems. Honestly it's an insult to anyone who has ever truly suffered from lack of food (I am thankfully not one of those people)
As am engineer, I was taught the laws of energy. The body is an engine which needs energy to function. The only way humans can get the energy is consuming food.
I feel like if you really looked in their house, there would be a snickers bar hidden somewhere.

This should be justification for cutting food stamps Nope, sorry. Promotion of one religion over the others.
ETA: But I do think it's justification for food stamps paying for marijuana for rastafarians.

I have heard about people who follow a 'food' regiment and more or less consume about 800 calories or so a day... and fast a few days each month. (They exist on broths, some veggies, some fruit, and a tiny bit of a protein - usually non-meat).
I've also heard of the 500 pound Scotsman who didn't eat for over a year. He was under a doctor's supervision and only drank water/tea/no calorie drinks. He dropped down to his "goal weight" and started eating again.

Well, here's the answer: "We only eat occasionally like if we're in a social situation or if I simply want to taste a fruit."
Social occasions.... my gosh, I have atleast 2 to 3 social situations to eat per week - and that's a week with out a 'holiday' or family/friend 'milestone' type party.
My Weight Watcher meeting ALWAYS has a segment on strategies for getting thru social occasions while still keeping within one's "points" or allotment of weekly calories. Because it seems the eating/drinking/party atmosphere several times a week is a detriment to weight loss/maintaining a healthy weight.
Back when I was within 10 pounds of my goal weight - I STRUGGLED horribly with social occasions - I felt like my only choice was to either ONLY eat at the handful of social occasions each week (and have a couple of "no eating" days during a typical week) OR suck it up and ONLY drink water at social occasions.

Yeah, this is BS. She claims she ate nothing during her first pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby? Um, no.
In any event, I believe nothing I read in that rag. They are able to publish such "interesting" items because they are practicing a form of journalistic "breatharianism." They don't consume any real facts at all. They just make stuff up out of the "energy" of the universe.
Or perhaps they are all practicing the food-free breatharianism and are delirious from hunger.
In any event, this is crap.
There are people who practice a form of extreme calorie restriction, but they do eat actual food every day and don't pretend that food is unnecessary.

Maybe breatharianism follows the "it doesn't count if no one sees you eat it" doctrine, and they eat whatever they want but only when they are unobserved.

I'm guessing all these people are pretty thin. If any of them is even slightly chubby, I'm calling shenanigans.

I say we lock them in a cell with no food or water for a couple weeks just to see if it's true.

My favorite quote from the article "for the next seven days, some water and diluted juice; and for the last seven days, diluted juice and water." Are those two different diet plans listed?!?!?! This is BS, they don't even look very thin. They should cut out the juice .

I say we lock them in a cell with no food or water for a couple weeks just to see if it's true. If it works we can save bunches of money on the prison system → we won't have to feed prisoner anymore. We'll just pipe in the taped mantra of "breathe and you will no longer crave food. Breathe..."
That should be good for another tax reduction
