Powerball and Mega Millions tell Illinois

to get their act together over the bickering about passing a state budget.
The lottery group told Illinois they have until June 30th to pass a budget, or Illinois is no longer in the drawing pool.

The Governor is calling the Assembly back for a special session due to this, and naturally all of them get mileage and meals to cover them while they are there

If they do not pass a budget, the owners of gasoline and liquor stores as well as tobacco stores on the border, in Missouri, Wisconsin, and Indiana are going to get really busy


I think the democrats will fold and go with a budget, as Illinois does need their cut of the lottery sales.

They have to have the lottery in play to keep the minions, err, citizens happy.
Can you imagine the fall out if everyone has to leave the state every week to make multiple weekly purchases of their tickets?

If you remember, last year the state was failing to pay the larger payouts for winners for a few weeks due to "lack of funds", and lottery officials were talking of stopping the sales at that time.

I left Ill. the first time in 1964 and returned in 1967, left again in 1970 & returned again 1972. Left the last time in 1984 and haven't looked back. The politics of the state have always been corrupt no matter the party! And their current mess is the fault of both parties and special interests...on both sides!

Several lawmakers see a 50/50 chance of doing it, and several see a 50/50 chance in Hell of it happening.....meanwhile JPM loaned the Chicago Public school system another 100 million dollars at four times the going rate of districts with legitimate loan capability of actually paying it back......
