They have announced hundreds of store closings in the last year or so. They include K Mart as well as Sears stores. www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/sears-is-closing-72-more-stores-%E2%80%94-heres-the-full-list/ar-BBCbQna?li=BBnbfcLMost of you might be too young to remember, but Sears was the Amazon.com store before Amazon. They had a catalog that was probably three inches thick showing their products you could order, and then pick up at the store. I know as a family we all sat down at one time or another and did the wish list (at least us kids did) and our parents ordered products from the catalog, saving the time to drive to the store to browse for items. How times have changed...... It was also my understanding that farmers with outhouses used the old catalog for other purposes but I myself, cannot verify that.

They did. The first house my grandparents rented in Oregon in the 40's had an outhouse. No indoor plumbing until they moved to Salem.

I went into Sears the other day. It smelled so bad I left.

They've already closed the Sears that was closest to my house. I DID get over there, & got a few things as the markdowns got really good. I remember looking through the Sears "Wish Book" every year at Christmastime as a kid. Plenty of toys!

I did it, too! It was a special catalogue. I worked for them after CC closed for three years or so....even earned a buy out for a pension....I saw the hand writing on the wall and that was over ten years ago....except for the appliances where I was a manager...over all....products carried and policies were troubling...One little thing stayed with me...there was a woman clerk / associate who had been with them in the store for years...could easily fit into so many places when needed plus had a following, customer service outstanding...anyway . and here a bit off on recollection....wanted a small raise.. .25 or .50 per hour...believe it was .25...but manager of store said no...she left..[actually got job at a neighboring Sears closer to her home....for wage increase ...but our store lost a valued person...was worth five or more employees... I know retailing...Malls ....have changed....for me thank the lord for Amazon...believe Wal Mart is going into this type of retailing...inter net in a big way....Since it is a pain for me to get out the internet for me is great so far...Just ordered three books...$3.59 each...free shipping if $10.00 order....used but condition is fine.... "thrift books .com"...highly recommend...have never had a problem...especially if there are favorite authors and u want to reread...or don't want to use library....Sometimes able to get two nor more of same author for same low price hard editions...
