This man gets paid $5.25 million per year, and just

showed the whole world that he's never done an honest day's work in his life. 




That is Tom Herman, the new football coach at Texas, showing he has no clue on how to swing a sledgehammer. 

The sad thing is, he is surrounded by his players and a construction crew. Texas chose to stream the destruction of these lockers live (they're renovating the football locker room), and it never occurred to Herman to ask a construction worker how to properly use a sledgehammer so he wouldn't embarrass himself. Instead, he embarrassed himself, and it was streamed for the world to see.

It's bad enough that he's wearing a hard hat and safety vest with shorts and sneakers, he doesn't even know how to use a basic tool. Even if he didn't want to emasculate himself by asking a construction worker for tips, there are instructional videos on YouTube he could have consulted.

 As for Herman, this issue is that for someone who is so proud of his Mensa credentials, he's an idiot when it comes to common sense and social media. 

 If texas wins, everyone will forget about this. Every time texas loses or struggles, this gif will make an appearance. 

 Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, and Urban Meyer are arguably the top three coaches in college football today. You don't see any of them pulling cheap stunts like this one.

Are you asserting that common sense and proper social media skills should be commensurate with pay?

Brett Favre was paid a whole lot more (heck, it looked like the Packers were even willing to pay him 20 Million just to stay retired from the brief google search I just did), and that didn't stop him from using social media in a poor way.

Though, DH and I both agree that Favre was a lot more smart/savvy than he often portrayed himself.

If I were this guy, I doubt I would have pulled up a youtube video on how to swing a sledgehammer before doing this because, well...it seems like it would be pretty easy.  He found out it wasn't, but whatever...it's not like that's what he's being paid for.  I'm sure there are a lot of neurosurgeons that would suck at this task too, but it wouldn't make me question whether they were worth their salary or not.

Yeah, why is construction an "honest days work"?  I dated a construction worker once and he was anything but honest.  Yeah, he went to work and got sweaty and dirty and it was no doubt a physical job, but half the time he was there he was still drunk from the night before.  He cheated on his taxes big time both by claiming job expenses he didn't have and by working under the table while collecting unemployment during the off season and when he screwed things up on the job site he would cover it up.

This is crazy. I believe Manuel labor work is one of the ways people can make a living and deserve to get paid well without a University degree because it's generally back breaking work and they deserve the pay. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that this person's work is more honest and that someone that doesn't know how or doesn't desire to do physical labor jobs hasn't really worked an honest day and deserves to be mocked.

That man is a Coach. I bet he plays sports pretty well and not everyone can do that. Or at least played sports okay in his young days... maybe he still does I don't know. But there's a lot of hard working people that have never done this kind of work before in their life. Just because someone is an accountant for example doesn't mean they're not doing an honest days work. They may have to be doing a lot of overtime, staying in the office all day, faces red, stressing, dealing with clients, going through a HARD as heck schooling to then get a CPA. Well they were doing that maybe the construction worker were learning how to deal with a sledgehammer because they could while the other person was behind a book studying.

Want to start comparing jobs? Let's see how well the person that picks up a sledgehammer and does construction work... let's see if they can pass the CPA test and if they can't let's mock them for never possibly going to University and making sure they're book smarts... 

There's a reason there's multiple jobs that have multiple skills. Nobody has the same skill sets and if we did we'd be rather a boring society. If every accountant and lawyer and doctor knew how to do construction work... construction workers would be without a job...

 I'm saying if you're paid to be the face of a program, you need to be smart enough to know what you don't know. 

As for Favre, I don't consider texting 'social media', and my understanding is he was texting pictures of his penis to women. 

There is a big difference between texting something in what is assumed to be a private conversation and streaming an exhibition to market your program, which is what took place at texas.

My husband is helping a guy here do some volunteer work. My husband worked in construction all his

life, but for 30 to 40 years he was a supervisor. The guy wanted DH and himself to finish the concrete

for a mural base. I guess he assumed that was something easy to do or that hubby had done that.

Hubby told him just because I was on the jobsite doesn't mean I physically did that, I supervised it.

Those guys know what they are doing and its a hard job. He told me, I'm not about to get involved

in that, I said both of you guys are 70 years old and I would hope not. We sure aren't making any

$5 million, but just like him you don't always know how to do stuff like that just because you have

seen others do it.  Sure he will figure it all out for them, but they need to get the workers.

And we have and do a lot of hard physical work.  Why I pushed on a fitting today on a water heater

so hubby could glue it!

Because several posters in this thread seem to be focused on the idea that swinging a sledgehammer is the only form of 'honest work' when I'm talking about manual labor in general. 

It is fairly difficult to go through your whole life without doing some form of manual labor, but I suppose it is possible for some people.

Honestly, I think you're more embarrassed for him then he is. Most people aren't as fussed up about it as you are and a lot are defending it, or just laughing at it. This is one of those things you can laugh off. It really isn't as big of a deal as you are trying to make it be. As if everyone hasn't made a fool of themselves in their lives. I haven't seen anyone as outraged over this as you.. some people are telling their own stories about similar situations, some are just laughing at him... some people are making a jokes but this seems to really rub you the wrong way for some reason. It's really not that big of a deal.

Shows me he is an imperfect person and most people will have a sense of humor about it.

I had a boss tell me once that if I didn't make a mistake it was because I wasn't doing anything. But maybe he should be fired on the spot.

As for the program being embarrassed the only thing that will embarrass them is if they are losers

But you can send him to the town square and put him in shackles if it will make the team a National Champ

Actually you made it that way when you were trying to say that he's never done an honest day's work in his life. You made it appear that when he didn't swing a sledgehammer accurately that it automatically means he's never did any manual labor in his life. Not being able to swing a sledgehammer doesn't = never has done manual labor before.
