This is not routine, imo

There is a difference between major turnover and mass resignation requests.
I will let someone else research when mass resignations were asked for from either party after a new leader is elected.

I know the blogosphere is already painting it as a kind of soft communist coup. There's probably some truth to this--in the sense of the Democratic right (Ms. Clinton et al.) being purged and the Democratic left (Sen. Sanders) being raised to greater prominence.

Whether it's a small shift left or a major shift left remains to be seen.
