Heading to San Diego with the family next week. We have been there before, and love the zoo & wild animal park. Is there anything else that is a "can't miss" while we are there? We will be there for five full days, boys are 13 & 10.

over near UCSD, there is a parasailing place at the beach. it's set high up, overlooking the beach, and you can hang out and watch the parasailers. it's pretty cool. have fun!

Whale watching...they come right up to your boat!!! I saw a listing for a whale watching cruise and thought the kids might like that. I might see if I can talk them into it. Any recommendations for a cruise company? The one that interested me the most was run by the Natural History Museum.

The whales seem semi...'domesticated' and come up to just about any boat...almost to the point of touching them... you can see ...and almost touch the barnacles on them .

I don't know what your budget allows, but when we were there, besides the 'regular' tourist attractions they provide, we also took a hot-air balloon tour over wine country. It was unforgettable.

We were there last April and went over the bridge to Coronado to the beach for a day - it was fantastic! There's this huge old hotel too that's been in movies I guess - we only saw it from down the beach. But the beach is great!

But the beach is great! ooh...remembered something else. across the water from the Hotel Coronado, there's an awesome lighthouse - Point Loma. there's a pretty decent trail around the land, with exhibits about the history of the lighthouse and the military in the area.
