Today was the first day of Spring and I'd had it in the back of my mind that it might be a good day to scatter some of DH's ashes in the lake behind the house. So, I broke out the kayak and rowed out to a spot I'd be able to see from our windows and said a prayer as the package (ashes plus a hand-written note wrapped in a tissue tied with twine, so biodegradable) disappeared into the deep.
Which got me thinking about where else I was going to deposit his ashes. Definitely the Panama Canal and Costa Rica, where I'm going next month, but Edinburgh and Reykjavik (Iceland) are at the top of my list.
Soooo- I started checking airfares and Airbnb and booked a trip to Iceland in August. It's a little crazy but the trip to Central America was pretty much funded by refunds for the trip to Iceland we DIDN'T take last year because DH was too sick, and there's still room in the budget for a moderate "Oh, crap" incident such as blowing through my health insurance deductible without going over a 3% withdrawal rate.
Guess I better start studying Icelandic again.

I think tbat is very sweet and romantic...  Move over, I sinned too. An hour ago I put a deposit on a cruise from Auckland, NZ to Sydney Jan, 2019. Already the cheapest cabins are sold out. |

(I wouldn't mind seeing Edinburgh, myself.) Edinburgh will be high on the list of where to go next. We hiked up to the top of Arthur's Seat on our first trip in 2001. I think that's a good place for some ashes. |

Does going twice to Europe for fun this year count as a sin? There might be a third trip in there, but that one is not for fun --- helping out in a medical problem situation does NOT count even if it is private and not work related. But if the two times count move on over. I'll join you on the sinners bench.  |

I want to go to Iceland as well! I was supposed to go last October but ended up going to Calgary for work. I took a day trip to Banff while I was there, so not all was lost at least.

He knew that if I spent $$ on something I'd figured out how to do it without neglecting the bills or our savings. |
