This is a chronic disease that occurs when stomach acid or bile flows into the food pipe and irritates the lining. Acid reflux and heartburn more than twice a week may indicate GERD.
Symptoms include burning pain in the chest that usually occurs after eating and worsens when lying down.
Relief from lifestyle changes and over-the-counter medications is usually temporary. Stronger medication may be needed.
- Has anybody here dealt with this before or does deal with this? I was diagnosed with Gerd last summer and I assumed that once I finished the medication that I was given I'd be done with it forever. Seemingly this does not seem like the case unless I might be dealing with something different, I don't know. But, I don't really want to waste time or money going to the Doctor if it is Gerd.
I get nauseous, dizzy, and what I'm assuming is bad heartburn. And when it happens I break out into sweats and I feel like I'm dealing with a heartburn flu of the sorts and it can literally knock me out for a day or two at a time, sometimes longer. I can't even get into the car very easily because it makes me more nauseous.
I started feeling this way around three am and it's now five pm, the last time I dealt with this was around the nineteenth of last month for two days.
I just don't understand what is flaring this up. I exercise and I try to eat healthy. Yesterday I went for a jog, and all I ate was salad, a muffin, and pasta which is why I'm confused to what in the world could trigger this.
Does anybody deal with this and have faster remedies to get rid of it? Or is there certain things I should be avoiding? My Doctor in the summer made it sound like I'd take the medication and be fine and to just eat healthy and avoid spicy foods and such.

After checking me for an ulcer my doctor put me on prescription generic prilosec. Take it everyday. Sometimes I feel like I don't need it and quit only to regret it 2 days later. It doesn't work right away like the other over-the-counter meds. BTW you can still take them on a flair up while taking the pump inhibitor med.

Go to the store and pick up either some zantac or pepcid and take it for period of time to see if it helps. You have to take it regularly for a period of time to really get it to work. Of course monitor what you eat and other lifestyle issues.

A little at home thing is right when you wake up drink a baking soda and water slurry. And see what happens. If burp then it might actually be too much acid. If you don't, too little acid is your problem.
The symptoms of too little and too much acid overlap, a lot, and there's some talk out there of a large portion of too much acid is actually too little.
I had an endo and my doctor rx me an acid inhibitor based on my symptoms. But he didn't know that another doctor had already tested me due to a disease I have and found I make no acid. The endo doctor was mostly dumbfounded when I shared the test.
