The White House website was changed to eliminate the pages describing policy for both LGBT rights and climate change. We know already that the new administration is against climate change legislation. What should be the interpretation of dumping the LGBT rights page? There is a bright side, though. They DID put in a new page promoting Melania's jewelry line that people can buy on QVC. Nice to see what is important on Day One.  |

I also often think the media is biased in it's reporting, but on this issue I have a guess as to why the reports on crowd size were made. I was in DC Friday through Sunday and the differences in activity level were incredibly striking. My friends and I were walking outside the Mall from 11ish to 4ish during the Inauguration and were shocked at how empty everything was - from the bizarrely empty streets to all the empty bleachers you could see through the fences, it was like a ghost town. Our plane had been delayed so we hadn't arrived as early as we would have liked and we started to worry there was some sort of bomb treat or something else that caused things to be evacuated but that we hadn't heard about. Very, very strange. It was even quiet. We could hear most of the speeches over the loudspeakers but no cheering or crowd noise, even when we were on the roads right outside the area. Complete contrast to Saturday where the sidewalks were packed for over a mile north of the same area and you could hear the crowds from even further out. Granted, we were only walking around the area to the north of the Mall, so maybe the traffic patterns were different and the people there for the inauguration came/left from the south and the people there for the Women's March came/left from the north? So there could be reasons why the same places were so empty Friday and so packed on Saturday, but if you were in DC it was not only impossible not to notice the contrast, it was strange enough to be a topic of conversation. |

They have pictures for things like crowd size. Yes, they have it for every inauguration. That's how they know that the 31.8 million TV viewers was less than the 38 million for Obama's first inauguration, or the 41 million for Reagan's. (That goes back over thirty years, by the way. This is not a new phenomenon.) That is also how they know that the viewership for this one was larger than Clinton, or Bush, or Obama's second. They know that the Metro ridership was way below that for Obama, and slightly less than for Bush in 2005. Would it have been an issue this time if not for Trump and his people predicting it would be the largest and greatest in history? No. Would it be an issue now if not for the continued whining and lying of the president and his people? No. The only blame for this being an issue lies squarely at the feet of the insecure little narcissist in the White House and the obsequious little toadies trying to be tough that he runs out there to lie and bash the press for him. Utterly pathetic and entirely unpresidential. THAT is why he is being so badly mocked in pretty much every corner. He's a joke. I have to give him credit for being an overachiever. Usually it takes a new president way more than a day to reveal his ridiculousness. |
