"President Barack Obama’s re-election chances are imperiled by the combination of rising food and gas prices, Democratic political analyst Doug Schoen tells Newsmax.TV.
Regarding another volatile issue, Schoen said the public opinion battle over collective-bargaining rights in Wisconsin is in a stalemate but could break for Republicans.
“The combination of rising food and gas prices could pose grave peril to President Obama’s re-election,” Schoen said in an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview. “Not only would it be inflationary, it literally hits people where they live. And we saw with Jimmy Carter in the late '70s the impact of stagflation. If we had a period of stagnant economic growth, inflation and potentially increasing interest rates it could be particularly perilous for our president.”

If ... If... could... could... Don't count those chickens too soon... Agreed. I'd like to see our choices first. So far, the list of repub possibilities has been rather disappointing.

You can have your 100 reasons, we'll just take the majority vote and be on our way. And where are those Republicans that officially announced their candidacy for President in 2012? McCain announced his by March 1, 2007. This month is 2/3 over and nobody in the majors have stepped up to the plate yet. You know, if Obama were that easy and they didn't each have a huge flaw, they'd all be clamoring to be first. Funny how you all yell about how Obama is an ineffective leader when nobody on the other team's members aren't even telling anyone they're playing yet. Way to show how you're the "better alternative."

Possible the problems being as great as they are, the pay really not that good, political climate in the country being what it is, the real good candidates are thinking, who needs this BS...just for a private Jet, Helicopter, some cabins up on a mountain top, a Guy / Gal outside the damn bedroom door every night, want to get a little kinky , have to think twice, hold back with the noise, ..not worth it.

McCain showed how to lose. The TEA Party showed candidates how to win. The debate within the GOP right now to decide which track to take-- winner, or loser-- will determine whether or not Obama has a shot at re-election. As of right now, there's nobody bad enough on the Republican team (weak though it may be) to lose to Obama- except perhaps Mitt Romney. Romney is choking on the tightening noose of his role in ObamaCare for MA. I believe even Sarah Palin could beat Obama at this point.

Paul... are you limiting all your reading and television viewing to Fox right now? Palin has no chance to beat Obama... and i'd be more than a little annoyed if she was the candidate, cause i'd at least like a good debate...
I just don't understand, with her low, low favorability ratings and constant opposition from everyone except the base of the base... how you think she could possibly win? (and better than Romney?)
Romney actually has more of a chance than most of the others... although i don't know if he's strong enough to win...

Top Dem says: Obama slated to lose 2012Lowly Dem* also says: Obama slated to lose 2012 to another Dem in the Democratic Presidential Primary... You have to bet that there has to be a few Democratic Governors, Senators, or Congressmen or Congresswomen who are salivating because Obama is seen as dithering away while Rome burns.... Even Dennis Kucinich may again be thinking about running for President, but Jerry Brown said NO this time.. *Yours Truly (of course

I think Obama was only "slated" to be a one term POTUS. To advance the stinking "cause" as far and fast as possible then get the hell out of Dodge, with full benefits, of course.

I think Obama was only "slated" to be a one term POTUS. To advance the stinking "cause" as far and fast as possible then get the hell out of Dodge, with full benefits, of course. Interesting theory. You're thinking they had him carry the water for the Party's far left kooks as far and as long as he could get away with it, and the plan now is to throw him under the bus? That's a lousy plan. It's already been demonstrated (assuming it is the plan) that it is costing the whole party a lot. Goodwill towards the Democratic Party as a whole is evaporating, and their credibility is sinking back to post-Carter lows. I don't think it's the plan at all. I think the Democratic Party has become the far left. For all the news stories that the TEA Party has "taken over" the Republican Party and moved it to the "extreme right" (Oh, that it were so...), you'd think someone might mention the mere possibility that Obama isn't just surrounded by extremists, but that he and the entire Democratic Party apparatus has moved far left. This has to be the biggest far left nut house I've ever seen. How far gone do we have to be before a communist, 911 Truther gets a job as a "czar" in the White House?

I do think she could MAYBE win the Republican nomination, but not the general. Even I do not want to vote for Obama in 2012, but if it were between Obama and Palin, I would have no choice but to reluctantly throw my vote to him.

I dont think he stands a chance at winning the R-nomination.

Then who? I really don't see who?... Romney will have trouble getting the support of the tea partiers and the Christian fundies, I think. The tea partiers wont forgive him for Romneycare, and the fundies wont forgive him for being a Mormon and for having been pro choice at one time. The only way he might stand a chance, is if the right wing truly believes he is the only viable candidate that could possibly beat Obama. As for who else? I guess Pawlenty is gonna have a go at it. I think he might be able to win over most factions of the Republican party. Not sure though.

Yes, Pawlenty might be viable. Have to see how he is going forward. He is thoughtful at least, from what i've observed, and while he has detriments, he may be able to mitigate them.
I think the primary process is going to prove a problem for the republicans...

If the economy should improve dramatically he could be reelected. If not he is toast. Most likely he is toast. To many things beyond his control with the economy.
