I hear so much wrong of Obama's stewerdship of the country while here on these boards, by accidentt, just googling on something , came across this one and it seems they , government, under OBAMA, his watch, thus gets credit, way it works, you take the good together with the blame, thought I would post this. Nothing to do with the "Middle Easst " by the way..trip to brazil...vacations, shopping trips, brand of bathroom tissues used in Whiote house. ------------------------------------------------------------------ www.usatoday.com/money/industries/food/2010-12-15-dannon-misleading-claims-activa-danactive_N.htm---------------------------------------------------------------- Dannon's Activia, DanActive health claims draw $21M fine Updated 12/16/2010 8:49 AM | By Bruce Horovitz, USA TODAY "The federal government appears poised to take a far more aggressive watchdog role under the Obama administration over deceptive ad practices. Dannon — part of the world's biggest yogurt maker Danone— agreed to pay a $21 million fine and stop making exaggerated health claims for two popular Dannon products under a settlement with the federal government and attorneys general from 39 states on Wednesday. It follows Monday's $2.1 million FTC settlement with kids-vitamin maker NBTY over unsupported health claims and because the products didn't have the amount of omega-3 claimed. FROM THE FTC: Read the press release DECEPTIVE ADS: FTC says POM juice ads are misleading "It's a shot across the bow that food marketers are going to have to stop using unsubstantiated health claims as marketing tools," says New York University nutritionist Marion Nestle. "The claims aren't about health, they're about marketing." Yogurt is a $4.2 billion-plus business in the USA, with sales up 8% over the past year, says researcher SymphonyIRI Group. The two Dannon products cited by the FTC both contain beneficial bacteria know as probiotics. But, Nestle says, "Yogurt is just food. It's not a miracle. Please do not forget as well, while the Democrats controlled the House and Senate they were able to rally together and get the famous legislation signed that bars television stations from airing commercials louder than the actual programs. Which is pretty good considering the amount of unemployed has not decreased, that's a lot of folks watching TV throughout the day. They could have saved the hearing for millions! Millions I tell you! Too bad the yogurt doesn't help with constipation though that is a real bummer and ruined my day...maybe it helps with diarrhea instead.??

I wonder if the federal gets the $21 million or do we have to split with the States, not a bad one to help with th deficit, you all just dont care about the deficit? $21 million, not bad but since it doesn't seem Dannon was that worried about paying it, seems not a wmper from them, they must think it was worth it, the advertising .

Speaking of that, what has the House proposed lately that will create jobs?
Well, I suppose trying to pass a bill criminalizing miscarriages would stimulate jobs in the prison and law enforcement sectors.
Perhaps trying to redefine rape will make being a rapist a more profitable career path.
Though holding an emergency session to defund NPR might put a few people out of work.
Some GOP senators, like Cunningham in Missouri, are intent on not creating jobs, per se, but to add more people who are competing for the scarce jobs now by abolishing child labor laws in her state. Pimping children will be the next hot career.
Of course, there are the all-important GOP bills involving the teaching of evolution, because we all know that stimulates job growth.

Well, in states like Oklahoma, where the GOP controls both the state house and senate for the first time, they are pushing anti-evolution bills left and right trying to get them passed. They always failed before, but now they're hoping a state with a GOP governor and a GOP house and senate will finally turn the tables - and turn the clocks back to 200 A.D.

Note how I said the GOP controlled the governorship, senate, and house for the first time.
Obviously this means that Oklahoma's low unemployment rate didn't occur exclusively under conservative control. You need to read more carefully next time.
Oh, by the way ... what does that have to do with bills concerning the teaching of evolution?
No one bothers to ask for them. But you're going to find that, even if I do not immediately provide links, I can do so if needed. I don't just slather this board with unsubstantiated nonsense. I don't hit a single key unless I'm reasonably certain I can back up what I say. I wouldn't advise calling my bluff on that.

Maybe if Dannon made the claim that if you hadn't eaten their yogurt, your constipation would have risen by 5%...

Ha! Silly liberal. Are you forgetting the proposed bill to repeal child labor laws? That will create many jobs. We can replace one 40 yr. old with 4 ten yr olds.

True the fat cats are bringing home the big bucks but that doesn't do much for Joe Six Pack or Sally the Soccer Mom especially out here in California which may become one giant welfare state if our taxes are not raised again to help pay down the state's budget woes.

Dezi, instead of applauding a 21 million dollar fine, against a European company, no less, I think I will wait for the Federal Government's real reason for bombing Libya......... (oil field control?) or better yet, the "don't worry abot that pesky Radiation cloud drifting by........statement Or the really big whopper, Federal health insurance will not be that expensive..........and there will be no graft or corruption with it, either......

First of all Value , this thread was really a bit of a spoof. oh it's real all right but it was not put up for all to get real serious about it, yet it seems these types get a hell of a lot more interest then many threads of more serious nature. Since there were Attorney generals involved here too, not sure how it works , if they to were in on the law suit thus share in the fine, any one knows. If with all that has been reported , if you are carrying on as to a reason for the bombing of oil fields , I take it you have no radio, TV, newspaper even neighbors and co workers to talk with. As far as insinuating that it is for control of the oil fields, that type of colonial transgressions have been gone for a long time, and this is under the auspices of the UN, a organization of 192 or so countries , the majority i would guess you never heard of in places you don't know where they are and to allow the rape of a small under populated country by major powers, never going to happen. Those days are long gone, To bad in a way, we could use a bit of that oil $, damn , to be born to late.{sheesh}Actually have no idea what your post is all about, how did Obama Care and Japans tragedy y and some corrupt politicians,{think that is what your referring to} get into a thread about Dannon Yogurt?

Dezi, you were giving the President kudos for Dannon Yogurt fines. I am giving him a Bronx cheer on some really important issues that the Governement's statements of the facts are not quite Kosher. Speaking of colonial trangressions, being gone a long time ago, the Democrats here, claimed Bush invaded Iraq for the oil. Are you saying they were wrong? Or is a long time ago, actually only six years?

So some big government agency decided to crawl out from under a rock somewhere and whack a business in a tough economy, in an effort to stifle the economy and kill some more jobs. I'd hardly call it something one would want "credit" for...
And btw- I buy yogurt because I LIKE it. I didn't even know they claimed to have Omega 3 in it, or x amount of this or that. I buy Stoneyfield Farm blueberry. It's delicious. Is it good for me? Hellifiknow.

Well; if your Dems said that, they were wrong, a lot of people said that, I knew it wasn't the case...those days are over , since end of WW2..No more Colonial powers , no more buying oil for a $1 per barrell. It only cost us a trillion plus in Iraq, could do a lot with a trillion plus , not counting our 4500 lost, thousands maimed and wounded, the care, rightfully so, fo rthe rest of their lives, the hundreds of thousands of Iraqui dead...sorry , Obama wasn't pres then and not sure even a Senator when it happened.

If a company is making false or exaggerated claims in their advertising, they deserve to be whacked with a fine. Just because it's a tough economy doesn't mean businesses should receive a free pass to intentionally deceive the public in regards to their products.
Is it a big deal? No, not really. But I do think it is highly presumptuous to imply that the fines were imposed for the express reason of stifling the economy and cutting jobs.

No, they deserve to be sued by a consumer who can show there was harm done, or by a competitor that can demonstrate they were harmed by the false / misleading claims. No harm, no foul. Or better yet- let a competitor expose them for being frauds. If I was whipping up some yogurt and my competitors were running these ads, I'd pay to test their claims myself and then BUST 'EM! Government mostly needs to back off and let the market do its thing.

It's not only not "highly presumptuous" to infer that anything this regime does is for the purpose of targeting private businesses for destruction, it would be "highly presumptious" to infer there's any other motive for what they do. They don't just have a few "left leaning" people in this regime, they have the creme de la creme of the left wing of the tin foil hat club-- Cass Sunstein, Elizabeth Warren...these are not serious people. Serious threats. Seriously stupid. Seriously arrogant. Seriously ideological lefties, Seriously dangerous in positions of power. The Obama regime is the biggest left wing nut house ever to occupy positions of power.

So you believe that advertisers can hype their product and promise results that it cannot be delivered? So you wouldn't mind it, then, if, say, a car company promised you a 50 mpg car, and you bought the car for that reason only to find out that it only gets 35 mpg? You don't mind being hoodwinked into buying something just so long as no direct harm comes to you?
Either that, or the competitor can simply up the ante by promising even better (albeit false) results from the use of their product.
While yes, your scenario MIGHT happen, it also might not, and people will continue to get scammed.
